None, its heat generation with no real performance gain. Increasing voltage increases heat because of the friction of forcing more electrons through the circuitry. I don't understand everything that goes into a clock speed, but basically it involves how long it takes an electron to pass through the longest circuit in the chip. That's why as things get smaller they get faster, less distance for the electron to travel.
intelstep speed is on
intelstep speed is on
I keep speedstep on too. Normally it looks like 2.3 @ 1.47 V
[editline]07:24PM[/editline] testing my computer now to see if my GTX 260 has gone bad (note: 9800 GT), I hope it did go bad so it's not something else [editline]07:25PM[/editline] I don't feel like going any farther with my Q9400, but I'm pretty confident that I could hit 4GHz, this Maximus II Formula is amazing
Q6600 @ 3.4 GHz, 56C idle and 64C load, stock cooling. 4 Gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 @ 1047 MHz 4-5-5-15 9800 GT 1 GB @ 750/1600/1200 Can't be assed to post a screenshot, I'm too lazy for that. also fuck your 344 mhz, I got 1 GHz
Ive done the exact same with my Q6600, that's why there there best processors. Quad core 3.4Ghz,You pay a lot more for that kind of shit stock.
My Q6600 is probably at 3GHz, but I don't actually know. It doesn't matter I don't see a difference anyway
Don't worry mixed that pic up, it's from before new year and i used stock cooling. :3 worlds most cute processor.
what is the vQPI? Increasing it to 1.35 or above can REALLY help lower cpu voltages.
Keep pushing you got great temp and voltage.
I pushed to 1.24V (1.25V in BIOS) and 3.64GHz, reaching 59C in Prime95. Should I keep going? [editline]10:09PM[/editline] It seems like +0.04V just to get an extra 140MHz is a little much
When you think you got a happy stable number, Run Orthos for at least an hour. I run mine for 10 hours before I concider it stable. Cuz i can push mine to 3.8ghz and windows will boot, and get a CPU-Z Verify. but try to load CS it crashes.
For some reason HWmonitor doesn't show my CPU temps so I used Speedfan If I go any higher than 3.5GHz it becomes unstable so I stay at 3.4GHz.
lol Im just impressed I got THAT much outta this crap ass chip. Intel>AMD when it comes to Overclocking, that I know. But 344mhz is somewhat bragging rights with anyone tryin to OC a 6000+ and close chips. Had my brothers E8400 up from 3ghz to 3.9ghz Stable and happy. but he said it was way slower and choppy. But if you ask him, his pcs NEVER fast, and always broken
AMD is actually better. People have OC'd AMD chips to over 5 GHz and it runs stable for them

It seems stable.
Epic overclock:
no thats an Epic WALL clock...
Well, Epic over-sized clock, haha.

I still have a good old Conroe on a P5B mobo and a stock cooler. Looks like i've got a quite capable chip, but i'm a bit afraid of pushing it further, due to the stock cooler and this is my first oc. The actual voltage set in bios is 1.2875V, but cpu-z always reports lower than that, even more so when under full load. I got 4*1GB Geil ultra 800MHz 4-4-4-12 ram, but currently it's running at only 700 MHz (1:1 fsb:ram ratio) If i change the fsb:ram ratio, it starts crashing soon after 800MHz. Should i try overclocking further? I could theoretically get up to 3200 with my ram staying at 800. I probably wouldn't need to raise the cpu voltage over 1.35V.
You should push it further, my E6300 did 3.15Ghz with 1.36v many moons ago :)
How do you get up that info??

i7 920 @ 4GHz, didn't have the time to go any higher. I should try a D0 stepping i7 at some point.
that's 3.99GHz [editline]01:39PM[/editline] [editline]01:46PM[/editline] core 0 and 1 settled to 31C [editline]2:13PM[/editline] started Prime95 testing, BSOD at 1.265V, BSOD at 1.29V, stable at 1.3V for 45 mintues
If ur Crashing w/ your Ram @ 800, Put the timing up (Push tRAS from 12 up to 14/15ish if you can) and raise its voltage.
It's not crashing @ 800, it works flawlessly at that frequency with rated timings and 2.05V, but as soon as i go past 800, let's say 820, it starts crashing, even if i raise the voltage a bit. I'm gonna try raising the fsb, looks like i've got a lot more room for oc, and it will give a much higher performance boost than overclocking my ram anyway.
that's 3.99GHz
That's rounding and common sense.
you don't round with electricity, you'll blow something up
you don't round with electricity, you'll blow something up
Well I'm glad he was using frequency then, because electricity would blow something up. :jerkbag:
yea you don't round with frequency either read: radios
I got my 2.33GHz E6550 to 2.8 stable with stock voltages and cooling at an average of 40c, but tuned it down to 2.6 after a freak overheating incident. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=668597 This is mine, You either have a shit motherboard or you don't know how to overclock. i didn't even change the voltages and it's on stock cooling.. And i have been running these speeds since december 2007. Temp gpu, rma'd my 8800gt. My motherboard doesn't support overclocking :saddowns:
My motherboard doesn't support overclocking :saddowns:
That's what happens when you buy a Dell [editline]10:14PM[/editline] also not your mobo, it's your bios
I don't have any screenshots because my pc isn't overclocked anymore. ( i didn't cool my northbridge so it got damaged :S ) Using an XFX motherboard where I couldn't adjust the core multiplier despite having a black edition Phenom 9750, I was able to just adjust voltages and core clock. I was able to reach 3.0Ghz stable. Something I had read elsewhere could not be done with my hardware configuration. I have heard of i7's up to close to 5Ghz with the right hardware and cooling.
I've got an i7 and i've yet to overclock it yet... I'll try when i'm home and post pics here.
