Looks like it's in a socket to me. They also showed a stick in the presentation.
they don't exist anymore
What is apple A4 system on a chip then? might want to look it up, it can be found in the new iPod touch, iPhone 4, iPad, and even the apple tv. now what I'm waiting for is for them to continue development of such processors and eventually start using their own in their computers as well. (sort of like having an engine built specifically for a car.)
also apple never made their own processors until now to my knowledge, the powerPC chips were Motorola's creation.
The A4 aren't their either. I think it's an ARM made by samsung.
That is if I remember correctly.
A4 was designed by someone else but apple bought the company, allowing them to put apples name on something they didn't make

The A4 is an ARM variant with a built-in PowerVR GPU. It's nowhere near an "Apple Processor" in the way that the 8086 is an "Intel Processor", though, since even the ARM implementation was licensed from Samsung.
To be fair, though, the pre-Intel Macs used a PowerPC chip designed collaboratively by Apple, IBM and Motorola, and the pre-PowerPC Macs used commodity Motorola chips. Apple has never designed a processor from scratch.
also, is anyone else waiting for apple to start putting their processors in their macbooks?
I don't think they're going to re-write OS X to run on an A4 ARM architecture anytime soon... iOS, yes, but not the main OS X. Then people will attempt iPad installations of it, and probably succeed in making the iPad useful... and Apple wouldn't want that. :v:
Core 2 Duo?
...
2008 Called! They want their architecture back.
They are using C2D because if they will use core i3 they will have to put there intel chipset and 4500MHD intel integrated graphics, with C2D they could put there Nvidia chipset with g320 which is way faster than intel one

That, and the Core i3 has much worse battery life.

who said it was going to be the A4 in the notebooks? I know what it is based off of and that apple didn't create it from scratch but the point is that apple adding a custom cpu that is specially optimized and crafted for the computers that they custom make everything else for and the os that it will be running will more efficient than just slapping another intel chip in there. it has already be stated that intel doesn't really have a processor in the same market as the A4 that can compete with it's low power consumption. also this is an interesting article for those interested on the A4: http://www.eetimes.com/electronics-news/4200451/Apple-s-A4-dissected-discussed--and-tantalizing
It's purdy and expensive. 'Cause that's how we roll. It looks a LOT better than the old one. Which was next to worthless. The new GPU and SSDs and the way the ports are not in an easily jammable dog-door all make me happy. Also, I like the new design more. I don't know, something about it looks a lot better than the old one.
What is the advantage of it being so thin ? if you add on another one or two cm of thickness will it instantly be worse off ?
Bragging rights, mostly. There is a tiny actual advantage in that it will fit better in tiny bags and sleeves.

Seriously? It's thinner which means its lighter, smaller, less intrusive, and sleeker.
Seriously? It's thinner which means its lighter, smaller, less intrusive, and sleeker.
Be honest, I can understand the weight difference, but the rest is just for bragging purposes which is totally fine with me.

Not to mention easier to snap. And you can't really beat people over the head with it. Never mind the fact that it's now even easier to steal them since they weigh even less.

seeing as laptops made from everyone but apple are generally plastic this argument does not hold water
you can just admit that you don't care about thickness without having to come up with stupid bullshit reasons for it. i don't care about the thickness, so i personally don't see why i would buy a macbook air, but i'm not going to just come up with silly excuses for not wanting one, i just don't want one.
Haha....
Hardly the most affordable, as the regular one costs exactly the same.

Sounds like somebody missed the joke.
I'm not sure what the joke was. I've smashed peoples' faces with my MBP before, and it came out undented because of that brilliant unibody enclosure it has. Unless the joke was something other than that and I am missing it even more.
Doesn't look very thin to me.

that was a pretty bad joke. i got the joke. but it was terrible.

of course they are

Nope.
of course they are
So you want to have sexual intercourse with a computer
if they really feel the need
My pc always starts whirring when I come to it
So you want to have sexual intercourse with a computer
I think it would be nicer to do on a pc than on a Mac, considering it's an aluminum unibody.
