Nothing worth mentioning comes with the OS and, this is my personal opinion, Apples video editing software (they've got no image editing software of their own) is the biggest piece of crap I've ever used, maybe excluding Adobe Premiere Elementals. Also, it makes me mad when people say that Macs are good for media editing, because they're not. Photoshop is the same on Mac and on PC.
Final Cut Pro is only on OS X, that's the industry standard in video editing, so you might say OS X has the best video editor, sure it isn't installed by default and it costs money, but so does a lot of other programs.
Does Mac OS come with any software worth mentioning? I hear Macs have good video/image editing software. Is it included in the OS?
It comes with the iLife Suite which IMO is worth mentioning because it's considerably generous for Apple to include a free video editing application (which blows Windows Movie Maker out of the water, obviously), free website program (err, okay, maybe not this), free photo management application, and something definitely worth mentioning - GarageBand. Considering it's free, it's pretty damn awesome.
Considering it's free, it's pretty damn awesome.
Sounds good, but it only really justifies the price of the machines a bit more.
iMovie is better than WMM? Yeah and hell is covered in ice.
iMovie is so much easier to use, intuitive & has a much nice UI. Experience is a big part of how people view things.
iMovie is so much easier to use, intuitive & has a much nice UI. Experience is a big part of how people view things.
Easier? Yeah. Nice UI? Depends on the taste. The thing is, Apples programs lose features with every damn version. iMovie HD (kind of old version) is better than the newest one. Qucktime 7 have more features than Quicktime 10. It's like they're predicting IQ drop from using their products or something.
If you're so pissed off, go buy a Windows machine if it's "cheaper" and "better Java support" and comes with a shitty image editor.
you are an idiot [editline]17th February 2011[/editline]
It comes with the iLife Suite which IMO is worth mentioning because it's considerably generous for Apple to include a free video editing application (which blows Windows Movie Maker out of the water, obviously), free website program (err, okay, maybe not this), free photo management application, and something definitely worth mentioning - GarageBand.
well it had better come with some free software what with how much it costs
os x snow leopard is $30 windows 7 home premium is $119
os x snow leopard is $30 windows 7 home premium is $119
Representative of value. Not to mention Snow Leopard is an upgrade as much as SP1 is an upgrade. Except we get it for free.
os x snow leopard is $30 windows 7 home premium is $119
snow leopard is a fucking service pack
This thread is so idiotic [editline]17th February 2011[/editline]
Representative of value. Not to mention Snow Leopard is an upgrade as much as SP1 is an upgrade. Except we get it for free. Vegas Pro is superior.
Why do so few people use it then, I don't know of a single video company of producer that uses it, they all use either Avid, Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere.

Not to mention popularity doesn't dictate how good or bad software is. Some may be better advertised than others. Apple tends to be masters at selling anything to everyone. I've never seen an ad and never seen Sony mention Vegas, ever. It's easy to forget that they make it sometimes. Vegas is just as flexible as Final Cut Pro but is cheaper and easier to use. It's just better.
I like how this thread has gone from lack of java-support to video-editing software..
iMovie is so much easier to use, intuitive & has a much nice UI. Experience is a big part of how people view things.
Easier is not always better. They dumbed it down. The old iMovie was decent though. It was generally as good as WMM, except with better exporting options
Easier is not always better. They dumbed it down. The old iMovie was decent though. It was generally as good as WMM, except with better exporting options
This pretty much.
Why do so few people use it then, I don't know of a single video company of producer that uses it, they all use either Avid, Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere.
Vegas has a more solid experience. Avid and the others are more limitless in terms of what you can do, but Vegas is more for smart consumers who want to do things quickly but still want a great deal of flexibility.
False analogy. (:derp: cumlords :derp:)
You're telling him to upgrade his entire OS to a newer one just so that he can play one game.
I personally prefer Premiere, since I'm used to the whole Adobe thingy. It can be a bit slow in performance though.
I personally prefer Premiere, since I'm used to the whole Adobe thingy. It can be a bit slow in performance though.
Premiere is nice. Premiere Elements is THE most horrible piece of shit program I've ever used though.
Premiere is nice. Premiere Elements is THE most horrible piece of shit program I've ever used though.
That's the cheap-mans version that they use to tease people to buy the overpriced CS5 etc. On the other side, I actually use one Apple product extensively, and that is Logic Studio(for sound and music recording). It has the best interface imo and is reasonably priced, since you not only get the program but also 60 gig of royality-free sounds and music. If you want to use ProTools you have to buy a special sound-card to get it running, and with Cubase you have to pay a lot more for the same that you get with Logic Studio. If only all other Apple-products were like this..
snow leopard is a fucking service pack
not for those who're updating from an outdated operating system (i.e. tiger) and also apple had no competitive motivation to change much for snow leopard. windows 7 finally caught up to leopard when snow leopard was released.
not for those who're updating from an outdated operating system (i.e. tiger) why can't windows XP users update to windows 7 for $30? and also apple had no competitive motivation to change much for snow leopard. windows 7 finally caught up to leopard when snow leopard was released.
Technically that $30 price is only for people going 10.5 to 10.6 if I remember rightly. If you're on 10.4 or earlier, you're really supposed to buy a full version which is over $100.
Premiere is nice. Premiere Elements is THE most horrible piece of shit program I've ever used though.
Premiere lags so fucking much though
Technically that $30 price is only for people going 10.5 to 10.6 if I remember rightly. If you're on 10.4 or earlier, you're really supposed to buy a full version which is over $100.
Nope, the upgrade disc works fine on 10.4 if you have an Intel processor.
Wow, Apple seriously pulled JRE 6 from Leopard? I remember a year or two ago I had JRE6 on the Mac Mini at work. Dick move. [editline]19th February 2011[/editline] I was working on a Java program at work that I was trying to get to work on OS X, and I remember all the shit I had to go through to try to get JRE 6 on Tiger because they pulled it from Tiger too. The Mac Mini had Leopard, but I wanted it to work on Tiger too.
