Right, some General Discussion!
Who else thinks that an analogue keyboard would be really good for PC gaming?
As in, each key has a pressure sensor that senses how far down you push it.
This means we'd need some special drivers, since DirectInput can't support 114 axes, but I still think it could work really well.
i've thought about that before, it's a good idea. It would need some kind of switch for games that aren't supported, though.
He just pointed out it looked like the triforce, you're pulling something out of nothing :psyduck:
I don't usually talk about Active Directory.
But when I do, I'm serious about it.
then you could actually play racing games correctly with a keyboard

Who actually has a server with 2TB of RAM???

You could always do it the Playstation way; digital/analogue switch on the controller.
I was going to shorten that, but then I realized "digi/anal" sounds too much like a porn parody of the Yogscast.
then you could actually play racing games correctly with a keyboard
But I've actually got fairly gotten at rapidly tapping keys, and I don't want to relearn.

Nobody, but if someone just magically figures out a way of making 512GB RAM sticks, they don't have to make yet another edition.
You don't see people asking why Linux-64 supports like 16 petabytes of RAM.
Does anyone actually post content anymore?

Up to 2TB:

Up to 192TB (depending on model, some have a max of only 16TB):

Or just do it in software. Have it show up as a generic USB device. If accessed via the normal keyboard API, have it emulate digital - if you press over halfway, it's full, otherwise nothing. If accessed as a joystick, or perhaps via some custom API, have it use actual float (or int, more likely) values.
Note that this kid, when his relationship status went back to "single," commented that he expected about 100 comments on it. 2 hours, 0 likes, and 1 comment later he removed that comment. I laughed a little.
Anyways, a clean/organized desktop != a clean/organized computer. And I hope his house doesn't have bullet holes all over the place, that would suck.

Facepunch should make a "console"and it just be a PC, then use a Wireless controller and have console fanboys buy it, say it's the best console ever. And then in a month tell them it's a PC and then have no more consoles due to them loving PC and consoles getting no money. /dream
Err...
You do realize that the Wii, the 360 and the PS3 are all 3 just standardized PCs with some custom parts and a custom operating system, right?

My point being a PC like ours, gaming PC's. Not just a PC with shit hardware.

Build a top of the line PC right now and in 6 years I will tell you that you built a shit PC...

Actually, since all three use some sort of PowerPC processor, it would be more accurate to say they're all standardized Macs with a custom OS.

...that's essentially what a console is, a computer with some very specific (often times custom) hardware, a closed source kernel + software stack that limits access to the underlying filesystem, and peripherals with mostly proprietary plugs.

PPC is a processor architecture that's not tied to OSX in any way, the only thing that makes a Mac a Mac is OSX and the Apple logo somewhere on the chassis.

You know better than that gman003...
A mac is a PC... since PC is just a PERSONAL COMPUTER and Macs are used as computers for personal use... a.k.a. a PC.

But we'll probably be up to Windows Server 2014 before we get near that, which will support 2PB of RAM.
I don't take issue with it, just find it interesting.

Except "PC" is usually used to refer to any computer derived from and compatible with the IBM PC. By that definition, the only recent console to be a "PC" is the original XBox - everything else was PPC or SH4 or MIPS or ARM or something even weirder.

That's a SPARC processor on the first though and aren't blade servers just a bunch of small computers with high specs packed together running individually? I have a feeling I'm wrong on that so please do correct me.

Regardless, I think people fail to realize that the consoles that we are using right now were released in 2005... Saying that their hardware is shit now isn't really fair.
Awesome. My ISP (Eastlink) bumped everyone who has their 15 Mbps tier (Which is standard in their bundle) to 20 Mbps. As far as I know, it's still 1 Mbps upload. Hell, I was happy enough that it was one of the only ISPs in Canada to not impose data caps on that tier.
They also bumped their 30 Mbps service to 40 Mbps, which has 2 Mbps upload. Unfortunately, they cap that at 100 GB. They also cap their 100 Mbps service at 250 GB, with a 5 Mbps upload speed. Still, those caps are better than the ones set by their competitors...
Why are the download and upload speeds so unbalanced? Mine are within 10Mbps of each other
Even Apple has moved from PowerPC processors..
PowerPC is quite a nice architecture - much better than x86.
Why are the download and upload speeds so unbalanced? Mine are within 10Mbps of each other
Depends on the technology behind your connection.
On cable, there's not too much upload bandwidth physically.
Same thing with ADSL, as far as I know.
Why are the download and upload speeds so unbalanced? Mine are within 10Mbps of each other
Depends. Some types of dial-up or DSL actually do have asymmetric speeds (don't remember the technical reason right now). Otherwise, it might be an ISP thing - I can see why they would dedicate more bandwidth to downloads than to uploads, since most people spend most time downloading.
Wikipedia on ADSL:
On the technical side, there is likely to be more crosstalk from other circuits at the Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) end (where the wires from many local loops are close to each other) than at the customer premises. Thus the upload signal is weakest at the noisiest part of the local loop, while the download signal is strongest at the noisiest part of the local loop.
Oh and also:
