why would you like the hardware that apple uses.
why do you hate their software.
what is this shit it's supposed to be the other way around.

His parents paid for 80% of the macbook
They wouldn't even let him build a computer.
This was his only choice

When there are some macs in my school system that are coming up on 10 years old they've done something terribly right with the hardware. The software on the other hand makes me want to throw up.

I've got a twelve-year-old Compaq. Still works fine.
Also, OS X is BSD-based. It's pretty good. GUI is a bit resource-heavy, and the drivers are crap, but I've never actually heard of drivers that work well. Even on Windows.

It wasn't my only choice. It was probably the best one, considering that my parents are apparently very positively biased towards Macs/Apple (neither have ever had an Apple product as far as I know) and their hardware is generally-speaking rather high quality, but it definitely wasn't my only choice. I'm content with my decision.
I'm sorry I brought it into this thread.

That's like removing the task bar on windows. (I don't remember what the bar is actually called, eh...) It's strange to me that you hate it so much, what don't you like about it?
Mac-using[sp]*wince*[/sp]Apple brethren[sp]*grimace*[/sp], is there any way I can permanently remove this dock so I can use OSX as a shiny light-use (aka web browsing) OS?

Why would having a dock prevent you from web browsing exactly

the dock on a mac is kind of like a physical object, where if you maximize something it can't go past the dock
it's really annoying

Apple -> Dock -> Turn Hiding On, it allows you to maximize where the dock was
wait, can you maximize things past the task bar on windows? I only use Vista on my laptop, but I'm pretty sure you can't in any version
ummm
i like that, it's like the windows task bar, when you magimize something it doesn't go over the task bar
Apple -> Dock -> Turn Hiding On, it allows you to maximize where the dock was
i know but every single mac i use, when i turn that on it's always turned off next time i use it

it doesn't take up the entire bottom of the screen though
and it's fucking giant usually

It doesn't just turn off by itself. And you can resize the dock, mine isn't resized actually and it is about the same size as the Win7 superbar

or even less I think; only time I saw it huge was a few years ago on this one Mac at school running Tiger, and it was giant because for some reason the kids thought it was easier to use that way or something
Has anyone noticed that CIPWTTKT has been going by pretty fast lately?

It's been going... Surprisingly fast, actually.
indeed.
i still remember the week long droughts that have plagued these series of threads.
The Radeon 6990 is a dual-GPU card. Have fun trying to get three of those to work together.
Actually using this mobo, it would be entirely possible, now if you think about using them in crossfire? No, you don't need crossfire for GPUMining, Just set up different instances for each GPU, the problem here would be heat and power.
it's possible with any motherboard with 3 of any PCI-E slots as long as their distances away from eachother are fine, you don't even need x16 slots, you'd just have to modify the card, or board, to accept it.

the way they're "detecting" viruses is hilarious
Dear god. Why.
Story time.
You know that awesome teacher who I am now a T.A. for? Well we moved to a different campus, and with the move we got an AWESOME technology grant from bill and melinda gates, allowing us to outfit all the rooms with "Smartboards". A long with this came a $10,000 misc. technology fund. Being the technology teacher at the school, he invested it in 4 "go pro" HD helmet cameras, and 3 nikon D5,100s. These are coming in late august, so I have a job for the summer getting them prepped, as well as setting up some of those damned "smartboards".
But anyways, here's the good part! Considering he has 3 new, amazing cameras for the class, the district is letting him have the D40 that was previously the best camera in the class. He has a 550D, so he didn't need the D40. Guess who gets it in 2 weeks? That's right, I do!
If you position the dock like this:

You (almost, the top bar takes some space too :arghfist:) got full height, and width doesn't really matter.
[editline]11th June 2011[/editline]
(Notice my super awesome game folder with pacman icon on the dock :v:)

Our school is investing in SMARTboards, too, now the fun part, they ordered a HD one, and the teachers macbooks weren't powerful enough (Intel X3100, students have newer ones with 9400M's) to run them at HD
I forgot to mention, when I was at Best Buy getting my MBP yesterday the checkout guy tried to sell me on a "virus removal" service for the computer.
How much did that virus removal service cost? $119 at checkout for a year or $199 at a later time per instance.
I asked the checkout guy for verification. Then I laughed. Loudly.

The sad thing is that some people would actually pay for that.

wat. Did they run at 800x600 or something?
[editline]11th June 2011[/editline]
I've always hated how HD is suddenly used with computers, too. In fact. the whole HD term is fucking stupid. Especially annoying when illiterates think HD is magic and only consoles/tvs have it.

you probably need to reapply thermal compound on your GPU
An intake fan by my graphics card lowered my temps be 10 degree, C, too. When it was blowing air out it was lowering it like 1-2
(Guess this depends on your cards cooler, but you don't want to have too many outbound fans anyways, so you have positive airpressure in your computer)
