DX11 is not going to be some massive step in gaming graphics, just like DX10 was not a massive step. By the time Windows 7 is as adopted as Vista is now then there will be another DX out. It's a shame because with the long life of XP came a very well optimized DirectX 9 at the end, and I don't see this happening with 11 since MS is not going to let the smoke settle on 7 before they announce their next OS.
I'm sick of this. "DX 10 was not much of an improvement, baww DX11 was not much of an improvement lulul" You'll say the same for DX13 (for say) and then you know what - Look back at DX9, and tell me if it looks, and preforms the same. Marginal, but it makes a difference. I'm happy about multicore support and DXcompute. [editline]10:50PM[/editline] nothing wrong with dx9 .. just it could be better.

Cool, that's some crystal ball you have there.

Because afterwards there would be such a huge update that people wouldn't like mass change. They have to do so gradually. See Vista. Original release date of 2003, if it were met then there wouldn't be that much of a problem. Just primarily in the UI/UX learning curve and that would be it.
Also the fact that DX11 makes physX obsolete (not that it was ever used apart from in mirrors edge).
PhysX has been obsolete since the Nvidia 8800 series.
PhysX has been obsolete since the Nvidia 8800 series.
Don't you mean it was obsolete until the 8800 series? Latest nvdida cards have got CUDA support and PhysiX built in. I wouldn't call that "obsolete". It was useless before when they required you to buy a $300 physix processor that was only used in like 5 games for minor graphic improvments.

Can't wait.
i think it's stupid they have no ray tracing.

They seem to have focused less on graphic improvements and more on improving the development aspect and performance by utilizing untapped hardware potential. Proved myself wrong lol, The more you learn eh?
i think it's stupid they have no ray tracing.
Not exactly feasible on modern graphic cards on a large scale.

The nVidia cards don't have anything ATi cards don't.
Will a Nvidia 295 run this??
Will a Nvidia 295 run this??
Normally that'd be a really retarded question but yes it will mostly.
One benefit of the major changes that came in Vista, is that there isn't many in 7. You can download a beta release of DirectX 11 (and all the nice API's like Direct2D and DirectWrite) for Vista from MS. Of course, due to those major changes, some people still think DX10 only being on Vista was a marketing move.
I hope you're right!
DX10 was poorly received because it came with Vista. As we all know that didn't go so well so neither did DX10. Windows 7 seems to be going well so far so therefore I have faith in DX11.

Yeah, DirectWrite and Direct2D are 10.1 things, but they're all bundled together in the new Win7 stuff so I just did the same. There's also "10Level9", which should help DirectX 10 and 11 adoption (write DX10 code, run it on DX9 hardware). Direct2D and DirectWrite can make use of that (so even with old DX9 hardware, you'll get hardware acceleration)
When's this console generation supposed to end? 2013?
When one of the three main game producers releases a new console, which they all seem to do at roughly the same time. I'd put my bets on 2012, companies nowadays seem to like getting everyone hyped about this year.
New consoles would be nice, but microsoft is working on natal so a new xbox is a long ways away :[
I'm glad. Switching from Consoles to PC was the best decision I've ever made. My PC doesn't break every 5 minutes and on the off chance something does go tits up I can fix it myself without having pry open a console which is designed to stay sealed. Sure it costs a lot more, but I would pay it a hundred times over. The Consoles are still using DirectX 9 anyway right?
My rule of thumb is upgrade every other series, im quite happy with my transfer to 8800 GTX to a 295 it makes you feel less like a dult when you see a new series coming out.
I had the option of getting a 5870 with my new build, instead of the 4870. I feel like an idiot. I chose the 4870 and hungup. Then realized i had mispoken. Oh well, i was in the middle of a shower when I got the call.

Finally. I'm happy to know that DX11 will be able to really test my i7 because right now nothing I have played has used all 4 hyperthreaded cores to it's fullest potential.

I think I went from a ATI 9800 -> ATI x800 -> Nvidia 7950GT -> Probably a 5980 in future The 9800 may be wrong. Havn't used it since I was like 15 years old.
GeForce MX 440 -> Radeon 9550 -> GeForce 7600GT -> GeForce 9600GT
Intel integrated -> 8800GT :smug:
Something very shitty(lost)>ATI Rage 128(lost)>Geforce 6600GT(gave it to my mum)>7600 Go(notebook)>x1650(fan broken)>8800GTS 512(broken)>7600 Go (:frown:)
S3 Savage 4 (8mb fuck yeah) -> ATI x300SE -> 8800GT
Mine has gone from Nvidia 7900 something > 8600 GTS > 9800 GX2 > 5870X2 soon. ATI has won me over.
