• AMD kills ATI brand, you can look forward to blood-stained Radeons
This, dear friends, is a sad, sad day. ATI, the name of hope for all PC gamers who were sick and tired of NVIDIA rebadging the same GPU over the past couple of years, is to be no more. The callous souls over at AMD have decided that our little consumer brains aren't sophisticated enough to handle two awesome brands, so they're just axing the use of the ATI moniker from here on out. Product line names will be retained, with the Radeon and FirePro branding still intact, but ATI Eyefinity will now be known as AMD Eyefinity. The first graphics cards to, erm, benefit from the new nomenclature will ship "later this year," and the whole thing is said to have been motivated by AMD's move to Fusion APUs -- hybrid CPU and GPU chips -- where it's considered beneficial to have a unified branding strategy. Great, but did anyone consider the fact that the graphics wars will now be fought between two wearing green jerseys?
Source: http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/30/amd-kills-ati-brand-you-can-look-forward-to-blood-stained-radeo/
I'm surprised they didn't to this earlier, since they bought ATI like 5 years ago
What's so bad about it?
You get stuck with only one choice in names.
ATI sounds cooler than AMD :downs:
AMD sounds cooler to me :downs:
ATI sounds cooler than AMD :downs:
lolheyguys i just bought the new amd radeon hd 6000 its cool :downs: Actually, ATI Radeon is becoming Radeon or AMD Radeon.
At least they aren't ceasing development of everything.
Fuck AMD, I will always call them ATi cards, no matter what. :colbert:
You get stuck with only one choice in names.
What? I can only see this as a good thing and the green shirt thing, they should just change to red.
I don't care what they call it so long as it works.
What? I can only see this as a good thing and the green shirt thing, they should just change to red.
I hope they at least keep the Radeons red, because nVidia is already green.
I don't care what they call it so long as it works.
this
I shall keep my 5770 for 20 years and sell it
Man an I gonna miss the name ATI though, you gotta admit. That shit was my hardware childhood.
AMD's just wanting to be a huge attention whore. Nothing more. I still liked the name ATI better. It brings back good ol' memories from the past
And so goes the little canadian company that thought it could. Pity. I remember when they made nice 9600 baud modems and 8-bit EGA cards.
Makes me dislike AMD even more.
If it ain't broken, why fix it?
oh noes two letters on the front of the gpu will be different this killed the brand let's buy nvidia instead :downs:
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! My brand loyalty. Shattered. Fuckers.
oh noes two letters on the front of the gpu will be different this killed the brand let's buy nvidia instead :downs:
I've always owned nVidia cards anyway, they play better with Linux.
According to wikipedia they actually announced that they will be dropping ATI name in 2009
If I see Ruby with an AMD logo on her chest I will cut myself. ;_;
