What. Someone elaborate this for me.
It's a branding change that doesn't really affect anything other than what it says on the card/packaging and driver page.
What. Someone elaborate this for me.
ATI will be called AMD
If I see Ruby with an AMD logo on her chest I will cut myself. ;_;
NOW START CUTTING. :c00l: :chef::crying:
It's a breach of trust. Keeping the ATI name showed that they weren't just absorbing the company to fuck it up and milk it. But that they respected the corporate identity and the brand loyalty, and were going to be fully fledged partners and let ATI do their thing as they always have, but better. Now that is no longer apparent.
AMD's just butthurt that ATI is the most popular part of their company. AMD can go suck a cock.
ATi sounds cooler an their logo is pixelated sex. Ill miss them. :colbert:
Oh what the fuck. I was just about to buy a 5550.
Oh what the fuck. I was just about to buy a 5550.
And this changes you not being able to buy it how?
And this changes you not being able to buy it how?
Well from what I'm seeing, they aren't going to support ATI cards. I had a good deal too.
Guess we will have to wait for the 6xxx cards and find out what happens. :haw:
Why kill off the ATI name? I really don't understand the reason for this. Also will the use AMD's logo now? Sure the ATI logo isn't exactly beautiful, but damn the AMD one is even worse.
Thanks AMD! Thanks for needlessly killing off the name of a proud Canadian company! Goodby ATI, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. AMD, may you burn in hell forever.
Well from what I'm seeing, they aren't going to support ATI cards. I had a good deal too.
Of course they will
To make up for the face that you have lost, may your red soul burn extra bright. That is to say if the cards turn green.... :argh:
Ati is much better.
Well from what I'm seeing, they aren't going to support ATI cards. I had a good deal too.
Just because they changed their name means that they are going to cut support for every ATi card?
this is the kind of thing I will bore my kids with in 30 years.
oh no someone changed their name. THEIR name. yeah, makes sense to freak out about it and buy the other brand now doesn't it?
I'm still going to make a difference between ATI and Nvidia by actually calling them ATI and NVIDIA.
I'm still going to make a difference between ATI and Nvidia by actually calling them ATI and NVIDIA.
yes. it makes sense, now faggots will want to buy ALL AMD because it has the same name thus super combo gigaflops multiplying HRGRNNRNNRNR
yes. it makes sense, now faggots will want to buy ALL AMD because it has the same name thus super combo gigaflops multiplying HRGRNNRNNRNR
see, their plan is working already!
see, their plan is working already!
i have nVidia and intel, clearly their plan has failed to work on me.
Logical Move.
This is really bad, now Nvidia will have free reign of the market after a while. (Unless I miss read the article)
I'm still going to make a difference between ATI and Nvidia by actually calling them ATI and NVIDIA.
this has nothing to do with Nvidia vs ATI its merely ATI being rebranded as AMD meaning it will now be Nvidia vs AMD
I prefer THIS article as it doesn't make it sound like it's the end of the god damn world. All they're doing is changing the letters ATI to AMD. They feel that the name Radeon stands well enough on its own.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has decided to kill its ATI brand name, judging that the names of its graphics chip products, such as Radeon and FirePro, in combination with the AMD brand, are familiar enough to consumers to stand on their own. AMD had bought graphics chip manufacturer ATI for $5.4 billion back in 2006., in one of the biggest acquisitions ever in the semiconductor industry, and internally, ATI was renamed to AMD Graphics Product Group. However, due to the strength of the ATI brand (and the long-time rivalry with competitor Nvidia), the ATI name survived to this day, often causing tech journalists trouble as they had to squeeze three brand names – AMD, ATI and Radeon – in one title. Now, after conducting market research which showed that the AMD and Radeon brand are strong enough, AMD has decided it doesn’t need the name ATI anymore. Current products will not be renamed, but we can expect to see the first AMD Radeon products later this year.

this has nothing to do with Nvidia vs ATI its merely ATI being rebranded as AMD meaning it will now be Nvidia vs AMD
yes, and what does this have to do with the post your quoted? stop being irrelevant.
This is really bad, now Nvidia will have free reign of the market after a while. (Unless I miss read the article)
yes, you completely misread, this is a simple matter of rebranding. [editline]06:22PM[/editline]
yes, and what does this have to do with the post your quoted? stop being irrelevant.
its completely relevant, the guy thought it had something to do with ATi and Nvidia merging, which isnt the case.
Well from what I'm seeing, they aren't going to support ATI cards. I had a good deal too.
Bravo AMD, you just lost a good deal of your market share because of idiots like this one. :golfclap:
Guys they're not changing anything, it's just a market move. Graphics cards will still be just as awesome as before. And on the plus side, the 5 series cards should plummet in price soon, if not only due to this but the 6 series is coming so anyone with a respectable 5 series card (57xx and up), be sure to pick up a second (or third) card after price drops, before stocks are sold out.
