What are you talking about? AMD was actually outperforming Intel for much of the Pentium 4 era, and even before that, they were making solid, low-cost processors. I don't know about their economic history, but they've always had a good rep in my book, actually better than ATI after I had to RMA a card twice in a row.
That was 10 years ago man.
That was 10 years ago man.
except that it was 5 years ago [editline]10:41PM[/editline] every 7 or 8 years either AMD or Intel gain a lead over the other. it's been that way as long as I care to remember.
Not a big deal. Stops confusion.
ATI doesn't have anything to do with retail product quality
Yeah, I know that. Heck, one of my rigs is an AMD/ATI combo. Cheap, but powerful. I just have slight prejudice against ATI for that stupid card. Stupid X700. I'd tell it to go die in a fire, but it already did. And then they shipped it to me. Edit: I'm going to repeat this, since it didn't catch last time. One of AMD's next big products is the Fusion CPU/GPU hybrid, aimed at mobile devices and netbooks. It's a full CPU and GPU in a single chip, giving it a huge bandwidth advantage, something that may come to gaming chips sooner or later. They're changing the name at least partially because they won't be able to use separate brands for the two product lines, due to there no longer being precisely two product lines.

Well sadly there are a lot of those around here.
Well sadly there are a lot of those around here.
on this forum? not really, except in general discussion and fast threads it's kind of hypocritical because they're on a forum that was made for a mod for a game
Well then.
yeah most of the ones in H&S are at least a little bit older

Intel has been pwning AMD for nearly three generations. That's quite abnormal. Every since the Core came out AMD has just been in the shitter. AMD is still showing no signs of doing anything about it and are just resting on their laurels, feeding off of the ATI profit.

I am annoyed that ATI uses that red color scheme, because I can't stand the sight of the color red, I don't know why.
except the Phenom II was post Core 2, and it totally raped Intel's offerings of the same price.
what no
what no
Key word there was SAME PRICE. I'm pretty sure the top-of-the-line i7 is still a better performer, but the price is just too much for most people.
Key word there was SAME PRICE. I'm not entirely sure that was a nice move, people associate AMD with processors, and ATI with graphic cards, sometimes badge engineering is a good thing.
what no
oh look the similarly priced (actually cheaper now) AMD CPU totally dominates the intel chip
Oh look you're comparing it to an ancient midrange of Intel's.
and look at that the even cheaper x3 720 does slightly better
So much comotion over a name change? Holy shit, I thought they were nuking the whole graphics card bussiness... You guys...
Oh look you're comparing it to an ancient midrange of Intel's.
oh look I'm comparing the lowest end pII to the midrange c2q that was meant to be a direct competitor to it
The problem is it's barely an improvement, hardly worth the savings, and about as high performance as they will go. The level of a last generation midrange.
Acutally I think it's a bad marketing move. ATI will always be references with GPUs, while AMD will always be referenced with CPUs. But by calling them both the same now, it will mix up. So you can't say "I bought an AMD" anymore, because you could mean both a CPU or GPU. Also I don't see the point of APU, afterall the CPU und GPU still have a different architecture. So, even if it was all in a single card, it would still be just a CPU and GPU "glued" together.
last generation
because that's what I'm arguing about, whether or not the Phenom IIs were better price:performance than the Core 2 series
Yes, barely. And now they have the Core iX to worry about. The Phenom II was the only somewhat competitive thing they had. And now it's practically outdated.
now it's practically outdated.
that's fine but but I'm not talking about now, I'm talking about 2008 [editline]01:12AM[/editline] I admit everywhere that the iX generally does better than the phenoms
I really don't have a problem with this. Same thing, just different name/logo.
I'm surprised they didn't to this earlier, since they bought ATI like 5 years ago
that, and AMD is a great company, and definetly shouldn't hurt ATI's rep, or whatever you were complaining about. Both are very good products (although i personally prefer Nvidia, but no hate over ATI) and they are pretty good to each other so far XD
