you should probably wait until windows automatically does it then
Yesssssss got it, configuring update for Windows 10 now
Anyone know how long the upgrade installation takes? I'm on Windows 7, and I have nothing to do tomorrow so I might just do the upgrade tonight when it goes live.
took me like 15 minutes

If you have Install.esd you can use this to update via boot media.
Under $Windows.BT/Sources that is.
Then just run setup.exe under the bootmedia NOT under Windows.Bt.
My Software distribution/downloads folder is just empty no matter what
I'm on Windows 7, but I have now $Windows.~BT or anything in my downloads folder, and I've even did the command prompt thing in administrator mode
Still no download in sight, it's the 29th here, 3:54am
About to start. Just need to do a few more things.
Mine errored on

Damn.
One more question I'm really curious about;
When I get the ISO file through the ESD file, and clean install from it, do I need to enter the serial key or will it recognize? And which serial key should I write? The one I'm using on Win8.1?
...and how can I clean install through Windows 10? (without the ISO file).
Still no download in sight, it's the 29th here, 3:54am
Did you use that cmd thing? It's only 6pm here in California and the 28th but my installation thing instantly popped up right as I hit enter on the cmd prompt
Thank you all guys for the help. I'm off to sleep while this thing does its stuff. Goodnight
Does it really matter that much if it's a upgrade vs a clean install?

You CAN select to clean install with the iso. Not sure about a serial key. Going in now.
What this error means is, your Windows 10 installation folder is unfinished and/or corrupted. Now, how do you fix that?
1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch, hopefully without flaws this time
The serial should be issued when you begin the install. The activation servers should be live now.
When I try to run the Windows 10 setup it says it can't find boot.wim. What do I have to do to fix that?
from what I hear you're not suppose to click the setup file

So I can clean install from the ISO without worrying about the serial key?

not click setup and look at basically any of my posts in this thread

Best to do the normal in place upgrade path, get your key, THEN do a clean install to be safe.

Downloading Windows 10
4.6MB total, 21% complete...
gg microsoft
Ok, $Windows.~BT appeared on C:, what do I do to install Windows 10?
I find it strange that half of us have it downloading through windows update and some of us it's just magically appearing in windows-bt.

I have. There's only two files in my SoftwareDistribution folder and they're around 100kb in total.
Is there a way to check if it downloaded windows 10 pro or not? My friend has what he believes to be an illegitimate copy of windows because he bought his computer from some dude that use to work at a tiger direct and doesn't want to update if it's not the "pro" version.

Some people let windows install updates automatically and got lucky with the scheduled check.
