RIP Start8, I never need you again.
It did the "downloading Windows 10" stuff as seen above, told me to restart - then nothing happened after I logged back in.
Is there a way to check if it downloaded windows 10 pro or not? My friend has what he believes to be an illegitimate copy of windows because he bought his computer from some dude that use to work at a tiger direct and doesn't want to update if it's not the "pro" version.
command prompt: "slmgr /dlv"
it'll say geniune and pro/nonpro status of license
NEVERMIND HERE IT IS
and now to wait for it to download with this ridiculously slow connection :suicide:
I keep pressing check for update thinking it might make the big server machine put me in the next batch.. Its pretty late
So are MacBook Air drivers for W8 compatible with W10 or should I wait to bootcamp?

I lied, I ain't waiting shit, switching from 8.1 to 10 on my desktop as soon as the download finishes.
make sure you're 100% up to date
run wuauclt.exe /update now in a administrative command prompt
no what is this 1995
do it
before windows update installs bad drivers from their servers.
its gonna do it anyway
besides latest drivers from windows update fixed the shitty screen tearing and other bad things
latest should be 353.62
oh, then I guess it should be fine but I still don't trust microsoft to give me stable video drivers through windows update.
Right click on taskbar>cortana>hidden
You did it.

Do that and it will work out eventually. Read back a few pages if it errors.
So my dad got a new SSD, I've reinstalled 7 home premium on it using the key that came with his laptop and it's activated. I've started updated and it's stopped here (open it in a new tab):
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WVijYTU.jpg[/t]
It's been searching for about 20 minutes and it hasn't found any more updates. Restarting hasn't even helped. I just want to get Windows 10 reserved for him and updated in the next day or so :v:

There should be a gwx folder somewhere in the system32 or syswow64 folder. Just run gwx.exe and reserve.
I swear I've heard this song before, but like, not as I know it

like, months ago at a friends place, I was humming a similar lead while one of his old sequences were playing.
Absolutely Baffled
Now just convince Jim Allchin to hop back on (it was hard the first time to get him on board with Windows NT in the first place anyway) and resurrect DreamScene and we're golden. Because that video is just screaming for DreamScene.
So with Windows 10 being out there is only one question:
Is Cortana actually good and useful, or is it just a massive gimmick like Siri and Google Now?
So with Windows 10 being out there is only one question:

I rarely use Cortana unless I'm using general windows search, would probably be more of use if I had a windows phone
Siri is useful af when driving tho

It's useful but a total gimmick for just normal staying in one location forever computers.
Hmm I'm redownloading it on two machines cause I got the error, but on my main machine its 5425 MB and on my tablet its 4184. Should I be worried?
Hmm I'm redownloading it on two machines cause I got the error, but on my main machine its 5425 MB and on my tablet its 4184. Should I be worried?
No.

No dice, I'm still missing kb303(whatever comes after) which is apparently the one that installs the reserve platform. Checking for updates has been going for 30 minutes now and it's eating up half a gig of ram and half of the CPU. Nothing, not even an up-to-date message. Anyway to force this thing to find the updates?

In my opinion it's a gimmick, and I've turned it off. I'm sure someone might find it useful though.
