Has been floating around and it kind of makes sense knowing the quality of a lot of code out there. It's happened before, albeit not visibly, Windows 7 is 6.1 internally so that programs written for Vista (6.0) that check the major version number would carry on working without issue; Windows 10 is 6.4 to keep compatibility.
some observations: shadows on windows are back start menu always opens on the primary monitor in multi-monitor situations (so i re-enabled the start screen) charms or whatever they are now are not quite properly gone, but just moved to title bars of metro apps four way snapping worthless with metro apps due to their size limits snapping shortcuts are broken in multi-monitor situations multiple desktops don't support multiple monitors well (think pre-mavericks os x) alt-tab is stupid now and doesn't return you to the previously active window like it used to touch support is awful [editline]2nd October 2014[/editline] also remember to use the windows feedback

Whats wrong with CS2 ? Its free
So if I try to install this by mounting the ISO will it replace W7? Because apparently my motherboard can't boot from USB but I want to install on a partition.
Digging it so far, now to see what drivers work and all. Nvidia drivers work great so far.
How terrible is the Tech Preview compared to the Win 8 DP?
How terrible is the Tech Preview compared to the Win 8 DP?
Well, turning on my touchpad via my keyboard doesn't immediately BSOD, so that's a pretty big plus.
Are dark themes finally possible now in Windows 10? Can you change inactive window border colour and window title colours instead of having forced white borders and black text? Windows 7 personalisation options for reference:

The text/glyphs on the original frames remain black. Metro windows have can have a bit of trouble getting it right though. If it's pure white it will have the text and glyphs pure white too so you'd have to offset it a tick.
Windows Update appears to be forced on and cannot be turned off. A friend found that there's a branch chooser, build speed setting, and a couple other features in the metro version of Windows Update. These are disabled by registry key right now, and changing them does nothing.

Though, Updates are a good thing, since that's the entire point.
PROTIP for those attempting to install Win10 TP on a VirtualBox VM: enable PAE/NX in the System > Processor section of VM settings. You'll crash on the logo otherwise if you don't (there won't even be a loading wheel). Thank me later.
aaah shit. I love microsoft right now that they added this from the taskbar. edit: Or am I senile and was this possible in W7? Could someone give a detailed walkthrough on how to parition/get this to work? I don't want to fuck up my laptop again.
Using 10 is nice so far, but I'm not sure if I dig the start menu again because it seems a bit backwards in terms of icon organization. I hope it gets better grouping, spacing and naming groups.
i'll give it another day before i decide but i'm very tempted to upgrade my current win7 installation to the technical preview and use it as my main install
I wouldn't do that. It's a unstable build and is meant for testing purposes only.
Could someone give a detailed walkthrough on how to parition/get this to work? I don't want to fuck up my laptop again.
I used EaseUS Partition Master 10.1, which is free, to shrink my partition on a hard disk. You need to reboot after you use this tool. This opened up 15.5gb of free space on that disk. I then created a partition on the free space and formatted it. Then I installed the technical preview on it, from a USB stick. I used a 4gb USB stick that had the 32bit version on it. I used the WIN7 USB tool to create it. I used 32bit since the 64bit wouldn't fit on that 4gb stick. Keep in mind that I installed it on my data disk, not my Win 7 OS disk. So when I'm done fiddling with it and erase that partition I'm going to try to expand my original partition to fullsize. I don't know if that will work or not.
vmbox won't even open the technical ISO keeps saying there's some error VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED
I know they haven't really talked about performance improvements but did anyone run any benchmarks and see how it compares to 8.1? I imagine there won't be much of a difference but I always wonder with each new Windows release.
I'd like to know this too. Is DirectX 12 or some kind of pre-release version included in the tech preview, and if so, how does it fare compared to DirectX 11.2? Have they introduced any new graphical features or advancements?
right click still feels better
When closing steam like every twenty seconds, it feels lot more fluid to make one action of sweeping down and clicking exit along the way
Fuck it just going to vms
I partitioned my drive but it won't let me create a new simple volume. Is this normal?
If you use the same program I did you have to reboot for it to complete the partitioning. I tried installing Win tech preview right after shrinking the partition and freeing up space and it didn't work. Once I rebooted back into Win7 though the process completed then I could create a partition in the new space.
