Windows Nine[sp]ty X[/sp]
Okay so I've downloaded 2 versions of W10, one is British English the other is American English.
Both versions are 2gb and not 3.xxgb - both fuck up on vm, what am I doing wrong?
installed on my laptop for the updated window-snapping and multiple desktops but oh my god why are the synaptics drivers so shit
8.1 drivers: can't move mouse when typing, no smooth scrolling
8 drivers: smooth scrolling, but can't move mouse when typing, have to edit registry to remove edge swiping
7 drivers: can move mouse while typing, but won't install
default windows drivers: can move mouse while typing, can't scroll at all
fuck everything
WHY CAN'T THEY ADD NEW OPTIONS WITHOUT REMOVING OTHER OPTIONS
Because drivers for laptops are the worst thing ever. it's been like this on Windows forever.
Lol even linux drivers are good on laptops with new hardware.
I upgraded yesterday and everything is fine so far. Will report back with any problems. Using a desktop.
PS apps load alot faster now, before they would always lag like shit whenever I tried to use them.
Currently using RDP from 8.1 to 10.
They've fixed the taskbar so that it's properly scaled to the remote system (My tablet has like 125% increased scaling)
Window Sizes and context menus however aren't, so currently I'm looking at some really large buttons on windows
(Windows 8.1 up front)
I also noticed that everyone on my skydrive was being redownloaded (about four gigabytes), as everything had been set to 'Avaliable Offline'
Does anyone, uh, know how to fix startup programs not starting on startup?

Depends on what version you grabbed. 32 bit is roughly 2.9 GB and 64 bit is about 3.8 GB. Verify the SHA-1 hash because you might have a corrupt ISO.

their both 64bit but I will
So how is everyone finding the preview in terms of stability and compatibility? I'm planning on installing it on my main pc since I don't have any other pcs. I can handle a bit of bugginess and everything's gonna be backed up, I'd just rather not have loads of hassle of it randomly all breaking and having to reformat regularly.

I managed to half crash it yesterday by opening the Mail app. App crashed and mouse still worked, but the task bar kept flickering and ctrl alt del did nothing.
Its only happened to me once but take it as a note. This is a VERY early release.

Really I wouldn't recommend trying it unless it's in a VM or on its own partition, epsecially if you only have one PC.
I've currently gone and installed it over 8.1. Apart from only having an explorer.exe problem it's been fine for me if just a tiny bit slower.
If you use the same program I did you have to reboot for it to complete the partitioning. I tried installing Win tech preview right after shrinking the partition and freeing up space and it didn't work. Once I rebooted back into Win7 though the process completed then I could create a partition in the new space.
I used the native partitioning method in windows

Holy shit this is all terrible.

I installed it clean to another partition (by booting the ISO from USB). It's actually much faster than 8.1 for me (probably because my 8.1 installation is really messed up).
Really hoping they remove the 1 pixel border.

I tried using that Drive Management thing, it wouldn't even let me shrink the partition at all. I had freed up 19gb on an 80gb drive. My plan was to give the Win Tech Preview partition 17gb, which is just a bit more than the requirement. Even using that other program I could only give the new partition 15.5gb, which luckily is just enough to perform the installation.

Someone PLEASE request File Explorer tabs

Also, fuck it. I'm just going to make this my normal version of windows. I don't have much to lose anyway
Does this preview have IE12 or IE11?

Cool. These are definitely an improvement.

They look a little dull by the lack of saturation.
Any way to get the new icons working on 8.1?
Also, Win 10 is baller as fuck. Wish these updates were on 8.1 as well, especially that start menu.

Does the recovery function in the tech preview bring you back to 8?
Well I gotta say while I'm liking Windows 10, I really hope this is a free update. Messing around with it the start menu is nice, but I was honestly ok with the start screen and I've never used any of the metro apps save for the store for updates and weather for when the live tile stops updating. Not really sure why it skipped 9, when it added less things than 8 from 7.

they look well saturated on my screen, then again I did boost my desktop to do that

That first suggestion would actually be wicked nice. I don't like using IOBit/Razer Game Booster to temporarily end background processes to improve in-game performance on my toaster laptop; I think something like that in the form of a Windows feature would be much more reliable and accurate. An option to launch certain programs automatically in high CPU priority mode would be great too.

It's not done yet, they might still add more stuff
They said they're going to completely rework the taskbar, and right now it's still exactly the same as in all the other versions of Windows
