I managed to add the drivers(8.1) for my Asus Xonar DG finally, using Device Manager and manually choosing them. Just the drivers, no Asus software. It sounds great, although since I can't adjust the headphone amp I have to use a higher setting on the volume control.
I don't know if I'm just imagining things, but both video and audio are better on Win Tech Preview than Win 7. I've spent so much time tinkering with video and audio driver settings in Win 7 that I may have done more harm than good. With this Win Tech installation I have not 'tweaked' anything and everything looks better for it.
I installed Win10 by using a script that installed the preview from the iso to a bootable VHD. Just dl the iso, run the script, make a BCD entry for the VHD and then you can choose to boot to it at boot. It's by far the easiest way to install and later discard the preview. I can find the script if anyone is interested.
It's not done yet, they might still add more stuff
They said they're going to completely rework the taskbar, and right now it's still exactly the same as in all the other versions of Windows
You mean change my favorite aesthetic element of the Windows Desktop? They'll probably redesign the whole start screen too. I know engineers, they love to change things...
Also, I like how we've basically ended up with this guy's concept from the end of last year.

These worked for me. You can choose to install the original Asus audio center.

so has MS announced what the big changes Windows 10 will be besides "muh start menu"? Everything in the OP seems rather...Service Pack tier.

They will actually be doing regular content updates if I have read correctly.
Which is nice, we're not waiting several months or years for them to change or add features
meh, tried installing the tech preview on vmware, once it gets to setting up devices, it freezes and crashes... oh well.

Well it is just a renamed Windows 8.1 Update 2.

This isn't enabled by default but I quite like the idea:

Metro apps still doesn't work on small resolution for Windows 10.
Shrinking most Metro windows to their absolute minimum size makes me wonder how wonderfully Windows RT would work on a phone like Cotulla had demoed, it seems like it could work fine
I think that they're going to drop the name of windows RT,
If what they've said is right, they're getting windows 10 onto everything possible, this includes mobiles/ARM processors
So they most likely won't have a different name for a product that doesn't support desktop applications
Housemate just said "I hate Windows, it's stupid. Why did they remove the start screen?"
:suicide:

Hmm, seems like some system calls might have changed with windows 10.

Highly doubt it, it's formally referred to as the tech preview not Windows 10 Preview

I think hes talking about the "Cannot initialize SPC dll"
Is the preview able to be dual-booted?
And how does it work for normal use (Steam, skype, games, etc)

I'd virtualbox it tbh. But yes, you can dual boot it.
I've run into 1 BSOD on an earlier build so far when using the virtual desktops, but that's it.

Haven't heard of VirtualBox before.

Installed as my main OS last week, no problems.
Installed the tech preview on my laptop, kept 8.1 Pro on my desktop. I really like what I'm seeing so far but the blue color scheme that is set by default really burns my retinas. Live tiles on the Start menu are easily the greatest thing.
Would anyone here be interested in a sort of a mega list where people report (through a Google Drive survey) whether or not apps work, and on what system/installation types? I tried a similar thing way back when with 7, but it was only amongst a few dozen people, so the more people reporting, the better.

it will change your life by letting you install all of the linux distros without messing with windows
Seriously hope so that they (will) change most of the underlying system, most of Windows is ancient and bloated, an operating system shouldn't take 20GB
windows takes 12gb without hibernation

wouldn't most of that be the pagefile

No pagefile or hibernation. No recycle bin. ~9 or 10 months of usage.
Is the preview able to be dual-booted?

I use it as a daily driver, and it works fine for the games I've tried.
And yes, you can dual-boot it. But just like previous versions, you have to make a bootable USB or DVD using something like "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" and boot from that in order to get the option. If you just run setup.exe from within Windows, it'll only give you the option to upgrade.
FYI: the tech preview ISOs are already bootable, just burn it to a DVD and boot from it. it opens up a purple stylized version of the Windows 8 installer, complete with the partition select screens and whatnot.
