i have no idea where people are getting driver and compatibility issues from, everything on my pcs are working just fine.
meh.
The great thing about Windows 10 is that Windows 8.1 drivers are compatible with it so there are less problems with it. I just upgraded and reformatted my Windows 7 PC yesterday and Windows 10 is like a night and day upgrade compared to Windows 7 and is much more worth upgrading to then Windows 8. Regular hard drive performance has also increased compared to Windows 7. Overall I only had one minor issue with Windows 10 that was easily fixed with some research. I'm also glad they brought the start menu back. I'm sure everyone remembers my infamous quote about Windows 8. Windows 8 is like putting your penis in a mousetrap. Well Windows 10 is better than 7 and 8 in every way and I got it for free on top of it.
Hey guys, got a weird problem here with installing this bloody thing.
So via Media Creation Tool (Windows Update wouldn't work even if I forced an update via cmd prompt) I downloaded and installed it. It worked all the way up to the 5% point where it copies over the files. Around that point, the screen cut to black.
The setup told me earlier the screen would go off so I just left it alone for a while. When I came back, the computer had turned itself off. It didn't restart, it just shut down. I turn it back on and it reverted back to Windows 7 and gave me this error:

Any help?
alright! Downloading the files through the media creation tool. 15% done in 2 hours. And I'm on a 100/100 Mbps line. It's gonna take all night
Weird I downloaded Windows 10 here in Canada Alberta and it only took half an hour on my 40mbps internet connection. It must have something to do with other regions outside of North America.
Is it true that we updates are mandatory in the new Windows? I sorta want to upgrade but W7 is perfectly fine for me.
No but you can still manually download the drivers you want and overwrite the one's that Windows installs luckily.
woo, had my first BSOD on Windows 10! :joy:
BlueScreenView suggests it was a generic driver error, happened during a MalwareBytes scan, honestly I'm just going to pray it was a fluke!
Welp tried to upgradetvia d and left me with a black screen and my mouse pointer, hard-reswith a black screen and my mouse pointer, hard-restarted my computer and it reverted back to my old windows..
What should i do?
Has Microsoft put native SSH in windows 10?
The media creation tool has crashed on me 3 times in a row now. Each time it redownloads everything instead of checking to see if it has already been downloaded.
Still trying to get this going after 3 days. Installed 8.0 this morning, upgraded to 8.1 and had to try to activate that because this isn't the first time I've tried this, when calling to activate I got a pleasant "You call could not be completed" after going through some automated security check and it just hung up on me. I'm starting to think I should just go back to 7 and wait for the next Insider Preview ISO to release.

To taunt me however, it has synched up the default Win10 wallpaper across these 8 and 8.1 installations.
Do you have any other pcs you can download it on?
I keep getting the stupid "Something happened" error whenever I try to make bootable media using the media creation tool.
What the hell happened to error codes?

What is a good firewall/antivirus combo that actually runs good right now?
and is easy on system resources. unlike avast or avg.
and isn't garbage at finding/detecting things
For anyone running on the update: I STRONGLY suggest doing a clean install off of a disk/usb after backing up everything you want to transfer over. The update was basically unusable for me. I had problem after problem, some catastrophic, some minor. On the other hand, my clean install is running extremely smoothly with no real problems yet.

You can launch setup.exe in \$Windows.~WS\Sources if it's downloaded via the media creator tool. It's only the Windows Update download that fucks up if you use setup.exe

How could someone wipe the data on an unusable hard drive? The actual storage medium isn't broken, but after Mister Sandman installed Windows 10 it doesn't do anything besides boot directly to a black screen. Nothing shows on the monitor at all. No fixes she's tried have worked. What are the steps to completely starting from scratch on a drive?

Sledge Hammer > Drive > Fire
In all seriousness if you plug it into another computer you could attempt to format it from there. If that fails it's unlikely any good and you might aswell dispose of it.

While still keeping the hard drive usable, please. She doesn't want to destroy it, she wants to remove all the data and start over.
everytime i restart my PC windows 10 decides to uninstall my Nvidia drivers and not install anything to replace them
so everytime i boot up i'm in 800x600 mode. thanks windows
I just installed windows ten, and it told me my hard drive was fucked up. I've been gaming for a solid 36 hours now and I haven't had a damn problem. Should I be worried?

I though I read somewhere that people were having trouble with that so I didn't try.

This can be fixed by changing your language for non-unicode programs to English us
is there a way to get the pre installed mail app to send you notifications when you get an email? using the new notification tray thingy. that would be pretty nice, means if I hear my phone buzz while it's on charge or whatever I don't have to reach for that to check what the email is
I'm just looking for opinions here. I'm on 7 and I love it, but I'm really curious about 10 and want to upgrade, but am scared to do so for fear of losing some of my files or programs that I can't back up (no external HDD or anything). If I were to upgrade to 10, would I keep all of my programs? If I were to rollback to 7 for not liking 10, would I be able to upgrade again later when I feel like it's gotten better?

it's very very unlikely you'll lose any files, something like total power failure causing disk corruption during the install is the only way that would happen. if you've got stuff that it's vital you don't lose then buy a cheap usb stick, make a secondary partition or copy it to your phones storage or something (although honestly that stuff should be backed up already)

I did do a clean install, I still can't get my Microsoft/Adobe programs to work even though I entered a serial key already on the previous installation. Where files am I missing that aren't located in the respective folders beats me.

damn, still getting this issue even though it's finally released :<

This should fix it I had the same problem at first.

That only happens with the update package downloaded via Windows Update. I haven't figured out the root cause but it's something to do with that. The media creator tool downloads a separate thing (apparently) and that's why it works that way.

Oh. Well I finally got a clean install going and activated. Had to upgrade 8.0 to 8.1 to 10 and then wipe that then do a clean install. 5 installs of Windows within the last 24 hours.
I tried Windows 10 on my VM.
Cortana can't hear me. It says "Anything else you want?" after I ask her for a joke.
