I normally don't bother, because I generally see shortened URLs as shady shit unless you're working with a very small character limit (e.g. Twitter).
I know the major URL shorteners support previewing a URL with some simple manipulation (add a + to bit.ly for instance), but I still get nervous as hell when people use bit.ly on Facebook because there's absolutely no reason for it.
Add a plus sign to the end of a bit.ly and they'll throw you a stats page
I think they've come up with a perfect way to get everyone on windows ten. They make it free, then add lots of exclusive features that everyone is going to want. Nobody's pissed about the exclusive features because it's free, they may as well just upgrade, it's not like they'll get something they hate that's unavoidable like the start screen in 8, with windows ten you can make it behave just like windows 7. Then everyone sees how good windows ten is and, they notice all these things that would be great for their phone and they see how well it talks to a phone, with synced settings, notifications and messages, so they get a windows phone as well. The app problem with windows phone will have been solved because of all these people with windows pcs and laptops. Developers are gonna wasn't to make apps to tap in to that market, and its easy to make those apps work on phones as well. This strategy has a really good chance of fixing their dying phone platform and I'm excited.
I think I'll upgrade my computer in the first year this comes out, since I'll have to upgrade eventually.
Do I take the computer into a store or do I download the new OS or what? What proof do I need that I have a valid copy of Windows 7?
On the other hand, I want to keep certain files and be able to run the older games that I have.
Is there a way I can do this? I already have most of these files backed up onto CDs but I don't know how I would solve possible compatibility issues.

I imagine you download an upgrade assistant that runs a bunch of checks to see if you're eligible, and then that downloads windows 10.
You'll probably be able to keep your stuff but we don't know for sure yet. Windows 7 is pretty much totally compatible with ten so any of your games will work. The only things that won't work are drivers, but windows 8 onwards has been pretty intelligent about automatically installing drivers.
New build is out. Upgrade through the Settings app or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso
I haven't used a virtual machine before. Is it as simple as "find the .iso in the browser and it'll work" or is it more complicated than that?
I haven't used a virtual machine before. Is it as simple as "find the .iso in the browser and it'll work" or is it more complicated than that?
1. Download ISO File.
2. Get a Software to host virtual machines such as Virtualbox, VMware Workstation or VMware Player.
3. Open Software and Create new VM
4. mount .iso File (You will be prompted to when creating a VM)
5. Start VM
6. Continue as if it's a real PC.
7. Once you have installed Windows, make sure to install VMware Tools or Virtualbox Guest Additions, depending on the Software you chose. These are the drivers, such as Video, Audio and Input drivers specifically made for the VM.
8. enjoy
You know what would be even better? Not making console exclusives so you don't have to buy an Xbone in the first place.
I think this is precisely one of the first steps towards the end of consoles as we know it. Microsoft and Sony are aware that eventually, the need for a dedicated device to play games on is gonna go away with rising internet speeds and the advent of cloud computing. Allowing to stream Xbox games on your Windows 10 devices offers some of the capability that will be the standard in the future: Not buying consoles, but streaming games from servers into any screen.
OnLive tried to do it, and it worked well enough, they were just too early on the market. It wasn't ready for their technology.

I've been told this by people before
It will happen eventually, but it's too early since internet isn't great enough
Plus it would be cheaper than having a gold build sent physically on whatever medium twenty million times
Also I was wondering whether we will be able to remove that search bar from the taskbar. Cortana looks cool but I hardly use it on my phone and that search bar gives me some really bad Windows XP taskbar plugins.
.... is it bad that after watching the conference I kind of want to switch to the new project spartan browser?
My only thing is that I live and die on plugins like adblock, QR code generator, ImprovedYoutube, etc. I doubt spartan would have any of these or support for anything like it.

Also windows 10 is literally perfected windows 8 and windows phone 8. Everything I wanted in both it pretty much has, even down to small design decisions like how the start menu is organized, how it acts when using it as a tablet, etc. The geek hype is real
(There are some rumors that they'll be supporting Chrome Extensions)

The button was removable (before they switched to a input), it has been so since the previous build

Apparently it can get a primary and secondary color from your wallpaper:

Ehh, not new
Ehh, not new
Doesn't do that for me in 8.
I'm going to miss having my desktop wallpaper as my start background.

Regarding older builds of ten

In tablet mode, your microsoft account avatar is in a circle on the start screen
eww
Is there any way to get rid of the extra drives in the Explorer in Windows 10? Already got them under Computer/This PC, don't think there's any need for them to be placed double.
Anyone been able to figure out how to use cortana outside the US?
Is anyone else unable to set up Cortana?

Cortana works great. The "Hey Cortana" command is buggy though. Worked fine for a bit, but now it's just.... not. Still cool though:

Small things I don't like (because so far I love everything else):
Smaller taskbar icons. Feels a bit too small. I prefer to older size. Maybe there is a way to change this? They all feel a little blurry now.
The Desktop Switcher icon is STILL a blurry mess for me.
I miss having the ability to use Glass8. I'm a sucker for aero blur, I really am.
Windows update appears to be gone from the old control panel.
The OneDrive program that's preinstalled appears to function without having to sign into a microsoft account in Windows. ( it won't budge if you use a local account in Win8 )
Well shit, after restarting, Glass8 still work kinda.

[editline]EDIT[/editline]
After some tweaking it works all over now:
[t]http://puu.sh/eWcWh/ecff893cc7.jpg[/t]
Really ugly blurring though, which is expected with this method from my understanding.

With 10 or at all? There's an easy to install/uninstall package now for Windows 8.1/10. This build isn't officially supported though. It throws up an error upon install, you just have to hit cancel on it though.
I really really like this new build. It can really only get better from here

In 8, 8.1, or 10. It'd just send me in for an endless loop of Explorer.exe crashing :v:
The UI in the new preview is starting to look pretty dang nice.
That explorer makes me want to fap.
