on one hand all of the server stuff and visual studio have gone 64 bit only
on the other hand office still recommends using the 32 bit version
also there was the thing where x86 windows tablets shipped with 32 bit windows (even though all the cpus supported 64 bit) as the 64 bit version did not support connected standby
however that is no longer the case since the surface pro 3 has it
Speaking of unnecessary Windows versions, is there going to be a 32-bit version of 9?
And if yes, WHY?
All those corporations who have old outdated 32-bit and 16-bit software who don't want to hire new programmers to rewrite something that already works, so Microsoft does whatever they can to keep hold of those corporations who use Microsoft products for their business. You can see how far Microsoft will do stuff like that when they're doing things like IE8 emulation for IE11 and such.

Yeah, but couldn't they stick with 7 or 8 for those purposes? I'm pretty sure by the time MS drops support for those systems, their old software will become so outdated it'll have to be updated.
And I'm not sure if I'm wording this correctly, but I just meant get rid of the 32-bit version of Windows, not drop support for 32 bit software entirely, it would at least solve the problem of people buying shitty prebuilts and then not being able to upgrade RAM, or run 64 bit games or something like that.

They could, but that's doesn't really help Microsoft, as those companies wouldn't be buying the latest version. There are still a lot of businesses who use 16 bit applications or 32 bit applications that wouldn't work right under WOW64. I'm sure Microsoft will phase it out, but only over a long period of time. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't already, it's been quite a while since I've seen a OEM computer come with 32 bit Windows anyway.
How about just having a Windows 9 Enterprise 32bit version, and the rest X64bit only?

You'd be surprised. I've gotten 32 bit W8 OEM machines in the shop.

afaik the weather app has some preset weather tiles
although usually those are in fahrenheit so the leaker fucked up

Not as bad as when 8 was still called Blue and someone leaked a screen with his full name in the top right corner.
I'm pretty sure win 8 weather shows generic weather locations by default until you open the app

Hope it's true, it's strange how it hasn't been added already. It's a fantastic feature especially on single monitor setups, even on a higher resolution screen.
I would've loved multiple desktops that behave like metro apps.
This is rather charming: http://www.winbeta.org/news/windows-9-threshold-charms-bar-you-know-it-will-no-longer-exist-desktop

That looks very nice. Looking forward to the Preview release.
They're finally updating the fucking vista/7 icons? About time
Some of that design looks pretty bad to be honest, but it's to be expected I suppose. Virtual desktops are gonna be nice.
The new explorer icon looks awful, and now it's visually inconsistent with the other shit which makes it worse
All or nothing

I think it's obvious more icons are going to be developed.
Can't wait to try the consumer preview!
Thin borders, finally. Can't wait for this release.

Great that I have the option of using the Start Screen, but it looks pretty cool either way. Microsoft should do something about their scroll "blocks" (?) a la OS X (or any mobile OS) where it's just a thin line that just indicates where you are on the list. Or at least have the option of using that. The one they have now is pretty compared to some of the menus it inhabits.
I hope they refine the icons a bit more.
I know the explorer.exe icon probably is a placeholder, but even deviantart provides better icons.
A Complete overhaul of all icons would be amazing, especially for some older icons.

I would not be surprised if the gold version has all icons changed.
There's also a rumor that it's just going to be called "Windows", not Windows 9. Seems like the images only say Windows technical preview instead of Windows 9 technical preview too.
Hopefully that's not actually going to happen though.
