They've never used temp icons before. Also, why would they waste the effort in creating all new icons only to wait to make another set of icons?
Do they really look like any effort was there to be wasted?

"Intern Bitchtits, after you finish getting our coffee whip up some temp icons in 5 minutes"
windows 10 has a distinct lack of animation. some things look lazy
at least window scaling is animated now (most of the time)
I'm really hating how Windows 10 looks, I'm used to the overall style (it's bland but it works for the most part) but I can't get over how awful these icons look. Google and Apple (mostly google, Apple's icons look more soft than flat) figured out how to make flat and minimal look good.

Those look a hell of a lot better than the Windows 10 icons, it looks like someone put actual effort into them.
Then there's this:
[t]http://www.zerodollartips.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/download-icons-from-windows-10-build-9926.png[/t]
I just can't stand a lot of these icons, they look so half assed. The monitor isn't parallel with the keyboard. I seriously thought the pictures icon was a joke, it's way too simple.
For the time I thought Vista and 7 looked incredible, I know everything isn't "put gloss on everything" anymore but they handled that pretty well. I don't think they know how to make an appealing minimal design, Office 2013 looked really good but I think a different team handled that ui.
I hope someone gets themes working quickly and an iconpackager-like program working on 10 quickly, I love the OS but it looks like shit.
Of those Win10 icon's, the only ones I think are not too bad is imageres-113 and 195, the others are just a bit too bright.

Probably because they look like Office 2013 icons.

That system drive icon looks so much better than the one in Win8/earlier Win10 builds. The new Windows logo made it look unappealing with the Vista/7 drive icon considering they had to move the Windows logo off to a corner, this is much more better.

People should remember that the UX is far from final. People that have looked in to Whistler/XP builds knew that the XP-style Recycle Bin actually had handles! Those handles went bye-bye for RTM though.

to be fair I don't mind how the folders look but with the video folder, it's really obvious they just redrew it from the gloss counterpart and it looks really bad
the side on computer shouldn't even exist, I thought icons have to be "head on" like if you were facing it
Hopefully this will have better compatibility than windows 8.1 did. My brother has a Windows 8.1 gaming laptop and I remember me having to help him making games and programs work on that darn thing. Escipally when I was helping him, I did not like it was like more for a touch screen and a mobile device like HUD combined. It threw me off so much including the fact going to my computer to simply move a folder was rather odd. It's a good thing with windows 10 it's going more towards the traditional way so I might just grab myself the OS when I build my desktop if I hear good enough reviews if not I will stick to windows 7 a little longer.
Those icons look more saturated than stuff I've produced in photoshop class.
Which is saying something, since I'm colorblind.
Once again:

The Recycle Bin in Whistler is exactly the same though minus that very tiny detail, the complaints here are about the icon in whole.
Part of me wants to say that it's an internal protest against the flat fad, so they decided to put low effort into it deliberately. I wouldn't really blame them, even though the Myerson/Belfiore duo are unarmed, figuratively speaking. Sinofsky though...I don't know how he got a machine gun into the MS campus, but he wanted to emulate Apple so much (especially their paranoia-level of secrecy) that he'd fire on the spot for build leaks, and is the sole person responsible for the Microsoft Confidential text you see in 8 builds. Don't know why Myerson/Belfiore haven't gotten rid of it...probably they're keeping it there for the sake of keeping it there to make people think twice.
XP MCE/Longhorn-era Metro will forever remain the best Metro. 8 really fucked up the image of Metro.

If your talking about compatibility with older games, I'm going to err on the side of no. Windows 8 depreciated some features older games needed to run correctly (most notably, DirectDraw). I doubt they are bring it back for 10. If it has issues in 8, its most likely going to have issues in 10, if not more issues.

My brother had issue about compatibility with Fallout New Vegas for windows 8.1 and it's not that old of a game compared to me having silent hill 2,3, and 4 on my windows 7 laptop but yeah I can see what you mean. There will be a way to make the old games run on windows 10 I'm sure of it. Either way, If windows 10 ends up being good I will get it for my PC I'm building

Odd, New Vegas runs flawlessly for me on 8.1. Well, flawlessly for a bethesda game.

It could have been a very specific PC issue or some other obscure cause, not an overall 8.1 one, especially if it was New Vegas. I run much older games in 8.1 without issues (in fact, I play Simtower For Windows on my 8.1 tablet, and that's not even 32 bit).

That's weird, because Windows 10 runs every stable game I've thrown at it from as far back as Windows XP, and even some relatively unstable games like Fallout NV. Is he running NVSE and the 4GB patcher?

Also if you're on the desktop preview, go into the store and hit ctrl-T, it toggles the dark theme.

Zune HD and to a certain extent WP8 are examples of excellently done minimalistic design, to the point that I find WP's UI experience simply better and and preferable to Android and iOS. When I use an android device it just feels a bit outdated in design concepts in comparison (such as why is so much interactive stuff on android/iOS located at the top of the phone where your thumbs almost never are? the app drawer is simply an unorganized mess visually, etc). It makes it hard to want to switch away even though all the latest apps tend to come onto Android first (though hopefully this might change with WP10?).

So MS certainly can do minimalism well, and I'd argue they had the whole "flat instead of skeuomorphism" design aesthetic down well before android/iOS did. Though that said, I think the windows department really didn't get the memo until just now and it shows.

The only problem is that mouse is literally the worst pile of shit ever made.
I use this in my schools studio and I want to skill myself everytime I use it.
Took a leap of faith and replaced my installation of W7 with W10 TP a couple of days ago.
So far I've had no problems with the OS itself, just with some drivers refusing to install.
I would've liked the new start menu a whole lot more if you could disable the Metro/Modern UI box part of it completely, and only have the search function and the list of apps.
I would also like the looks of it a whole lot more if you could make the taskbar and the windowborders slightly transparent

You can unpin all of the tiles from the start menu. The space is still there, sure, but in previous builds, if you unpinned all the tiles, that space disappeared so they're probably going to bring that back soon.
if only this worked

Ah, yeah, that'd be nice.
After doing some research, it also seems like they're planning to bring back the transparency options, going as far as making the background of the startmenu transparent?

Not saying the mouse itself is wonderful but the mouse ball I had no issues with and really liked.

They're even better when the wheel doesn't work at all. Hell, on some of them at my school everything is broken except for left click.

You can. Just right click on the tiles and click remove

Yeah, but I mean as in making it thinner
