Let's stop beating around the bush here. GOOGLE WANTS YOU TO USE ALL OF THEIR PRODUCTS, ALL THE TIME.
They sell user data, for crying out loud. That's like their whole thing. Why would they want you to give your user data to someone else instead of them?
Well the thing is, the icons are still technically there, but the actual icon graphic itself isn't showing up.

Yep, rich company wants to get richer. I'd be worried if they didn't. At least they put out some interesting shit with that money.
Is there a way to hide labels and not combine on Windows 10? There was a registry hack for 7 and 8, but that hack doesn't (or didn't, with the first techincal preview) work on the preview.

it's still a shit tactic to purposefully slow down your email interface in not-your-browser especially when you know you're the ubiquitous email provider

I really like the line under active applications.

The point was instead of trying to reach as many customers as possible by having equal presence of all google services across all platforms they try and force users who have grown in the 2000's to depend on google to be stuck with google by only providing their services (or a good bar of quality on their services) on their platform.
It prevents people in general from using their services outside their platform, which stifles growth in users and stifles benefits for the consumer. However you don't need to worry about that when you have an effective monopoly, so in effect you get users anyways ("why wouldn't I use gmail!") and your existing user base is forever locked into a single line of products that are designed to compliment those services as otherwise they lose those critical services if they leave.
In other words, Google's strategy is that they take advantage of their market dominance in several sectors by making it hard to ever leave once you become a part of it. And because people are already a part of it in masses that joined during Google's early years before they started this strategy, it encourages people new to Google to want to join in anyways despite this huge downside to the consumer.
I'm having trouble burning the windows 10 iso to a usb stick. Rufus doesn't recognize it as an iso :/

I've had it work fine with Yumi, also the W7 to USB tool.

USB stick. Reformatted for NTFS (It was originally FAT), ripped the ISO, placed all files in root directory for the USB.
This is what I get when I try to use the W7 tool.

Redownload your ISO. I used Rufus just fine for my W10 install USB.

Ahh, just tried YUMI and it worked like a charm. Thanks.

I love YUMI. I've got about 12 bootable images/liveCD's on my flash drive with it.
Whoa whoa are you saying I can have more than one bootable image on a flash drive if I use Yumi? Holy shit...

As many as you can fit. You can add and remove them at any time with YUMI.
Is there any way to force the Start menu search not to load web results?
It seems to load web BEFORE it loads local results so doing something like Start > c-a-l > Enter to open the calculator takes a few seconds and pulls up a web result instead of what I actually want it to do.
I tried using gpedit.msc to enable blocking web results completely but none of the three settings seemed to work.
Also, I uninstalled the metro calculator thinking it was one of the new bloat apps without realizing that the old calc.exe got removed. It doesn't seem that the Metro calculator is in the store since it's preview software so is there any way to reinstall that without completely reinstalling the OS? It seems that calc.exe no longer works at all, even when manually moved from my copy of Windows 7.

It would be a toggle in Cortana and Search in the settings app
Guess what's broken on my build?

Delete and remake your user account, maybe?
Windows 10 syncs your background and shit, so you'd just need to copy AppData to another folder first and then copy it back

I think its supposed to behave as it did before, where it works out what you're most likely to be looking for straight away, but there's a short delay at the moment before the app comes up at the top of the list. I'd you you're cal and wait like a second, calculator comes up. I'm sure they'll work that delay out soon though, cuz it didn't have it in 8.1 and that search was pretty much identical only without Cortana.
Preview for W10 for Phones is out on select models.
I'm downloading the technical preview now. Has anyone used it on a machine with Crossfire enabled? If so, how is the stability currently?
Got it up and running on my second partition tonight. Everything is running more smoothly than I expected it would.
