If you have a desktop, why even leave the pagefile on the SSD, assuming you have a mechanical hard drive as well.
I've seen quite a lot of advice to move the pagefile to your mechanical drive if you have any.
That's mainly because people are worried about wearing down their SSD, due to the frequent read/writes.
Its probably one of the more important things to be going fast, and would benefit greatly from SSD performance.
However i am not sure how much real-time paging happens since most machines very rarely get even close to running out of memory now a days.
And i guess the frequent read/writes is a valid concern, especially for older SSDs.
Anyone installed the preview on an SSD? Is windows still created a fuck huge pagefile that take around 10% of the ssd's capacity?
you can disable/tweak/move the pagefile in the settings
That is good to know. I really hate ending up with a 10 gb pagefile again, I still have no idea why it grew that large since I have 8gb RAM available.
Are you sure you're not just confusing it with the hibernation file?
Are you sure you're not just confusing it with the hibernation file?
He's not - that happened to me too. Windows just randomly decided my pagefile needed to be 12GB...
Are you sure you're not just confusing it with the hibernation file?
I disabled the hibernation file already. The pagefile just went up to 10 gb and I have no idea how that happened.
Pagefile is usually recommended to be 1.5x RAM for base value, so 10 makes sense.
I just ended up nuking a Win8.1 install becauce for some reason it was impossible to use multiple user accounts.
Login screen just refused to show any but the same old one.
I hope they much improve user management in 10.

They need to make it so on multi user systems it doesn't default to bringing up the password prompt for the last user to log in even on a cold boot. That's annoying.

Now that is basic ahah I like it but at this rate Windows 11 will use Vector graphics :v:
Has anyone attempted/succeeded to run Halo on Windows 10?

I'll try tonight

I got it to work.
I discovered two things
1. AMD pushed beta Windows 10 drivers through Windows Update
2. The beta drivers are the devil. I rolled back the drivers and Halo launched fine. Seriously, I couldn't even run dxdiag properly. If I ran it without suppressing Direct3D, dxdiag would crash.

Ran it on my Surface, only got the Not enough memory error, which is normal nowa-days
Joined a multiplayer server fine, then got kicked
Integrated Graphics though

Looks like things should be speeding up.

New build has been finalized for release. It's going through internal testing, then it should hit the fast ring within a couple of days.
Hey peeps, this seems to be the place to ask windows questions. I am still on win7, so i am wondering, this windows appstore, that's in win8, can you delete it/remove it from the system?
Can you remove the metro UI, like, totally remove it? So that it never pops up?
How hidden are the settings? Like, there is still a control panel and power/ network configs are harder/easier to find than in windows?
How is the volume mixer in 8 compared to seven? In seven it often doesn't refresh if you keep it open while you open new applications afterwards, is it the same in 8?
Also, the new task-manager, is it possible to get it back to the one in 7?
The controlpanel is the same, and so is the volume mixer. And im pretty sure you can't completely remove the MetroUI(Now called MDL). But you can avoid using it and add back in the w7 start menu using stardock. The taskmanager is the same in advanced view pretty much.
Edit: I guess I'm wrong. I'm not a Windows 8 poweruser after all. Only use it occasionally, so meh. (see Scratch's reply below)

So you're asking if you can have Windows 7?
I'd recommend skipping 8 and going straight to 10. That way, you can appreciate the new metro UI, the newly organized settings, the new (much better) task manager, and all the other big improvements from Windows 8, in a way that isn't as problematic as everything can run in a window.
Upgrading to Windows 8 would be stupid at this point - you're gonna get 10 for free, so what's the point in spending $100 for 8?
just noticed that you can doubleclick on the application icon on the top left of any window (even chrome) to close it
