I know but I'm on a pirated copy. I guess I should fork over some cash for 8 then.
When 8 was released, you could get it mega cheap (early adopt?)
Would they do the same when 10 is released?
if you happen to know anybody with university access to Microsoft DreamSpark that has no need for a serial key you could probably poach one of those. Microsoft offers free permanent product keys to eligible college students, I was able to get a bunch of legitimate Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Server variant keys that way

Yeah I bought windows 8 pro when it was $40.
I really hope they do that with Win10
A couple of general questions:
I'm on 10, I upgraded to an SSD and formatted my old drive that had Windows 8 on it. I got in on a free copy of Windows 8 through the free pro upgrade key. Now I have no way to actually upgrade to 10 from my old OS. Am I boned?
If I upgrade to the leaked build from the last page will I still receive build updates via Windows Update?
if you still have the key, you could probably upgrade from a trial install of Windows 8. it's the loophole I used for my Vista upgrade key

Hadn't even thought of that, I'll need to dig and make sure the upgrade key wasn't one of those "Use by" ordeals.
Edit:
It stopped working in February of 2013 :suicide:
Guess I'll need to order my OEM discs or something to get 7 back.

The fact that they are setting up 2,500 Upgrade service centres in China for upgrading PC’s Probably means that a physical upgrade will be offered, not one that is downloaded

This is what happens when you don't look at your post entry with an IME enabled :v:
I remember seeing a friend of mine use some sort of face recognition to unlock her computer before.
My sister had it years ago on her laptop and I use to be able to unlock it with my face.
She was very insulted.
They're looking for feedback on a new set of icons:

Way better than what they had before. Not crazy about the isometric-ness, but I like it.
It's something that might take a little getting used to, but I can see that design sticking nicely.
now all they need is to ship that wallpaper by default where you put the My Computer icon on a desk and your desktop folders on shelves
Those icons look way better. Do they have new icons for My Music, My Pictures, etc?

reminds me of this theme a bit (not the icons, just the general window styling)

So I literally just got to 9926 on an old Dell with a gig of ram and a 1024x576 screenres. Is it me or does the Start menu not work now because of it? It did in the original build...
Actually like those, been playing with it on a vm and i get a bit sad now when I switch back into 7
Those icons turn me on.

Ooh, much better. Keeps the general clean lines and minimalism, but has that very slight shading that you can see in a few other places in 10. Very nice.
Ye the ribbon needs to be a more organized. Love how much functionality it adds but it still looks messy.
Would be cool if they had an option called "show small icons in the ribbon"
Does anyone know the class name for the new start menu? I know the taskbar is Shell_TrayWnd, but I have no idea about the start menu.
I ask because I wanna see if I can play with it's accenting and see if it behaves like the tastbar:

Ohhhhh baby an update came my way; liking this new install screen

Note: In build 10041, f.lux freezes requiring a hard shutdown.

The start screen and start menu are in XAML now and no longer in Win32. Its name is "Windows Shell Experience Host" which is just a generic name for more than one element and its class name is simply "Windows.UI.Core.CoreWindow" again just a generic name.
If you want to use UI Automation you could walk through it looking for an element with the AutomationId of "UserTileButton" and getting its parent.

Figured you'd be the one to tell what I needed to know haha. Thanks Panda. Looks like it's pretty hopeless for me to be able to figure it out. I know that I can change accents via anything part of the Shell or part of the DMW, but unless Big Muscle figures out how to manipulate the thing It looks like Glass8 won't be blurring it.

My God they finally changed it. It's so minimal and beautiful.

Wow...nice to know the extent of Sinofsky's bashing of DWM was only making it not a service and he left the other stuff stashed away.
windows 8 breaks the fuck down if you kill dwm tho
The new isometric icons really aren't that great. Also this entire area is so cluttered and horrible:

My 10036 still hasn't gotten the update. Keeps trying to download nvidia drivers and failing? Also maximized windows are fucked right up, cuts off a decent amount:
