There's also a rumor that it's just going to be called "Windows", not Windows 9. Seems like the images only say Windows technical preview instead of Windows 9 technical preview too.
Hopefully that's not actually going to happen though.
I hope they don't go the naming route recent games are going. Thief, Tomb Raider, Devil may cry, etc..
If they do, people would probably call it Windows 2015, to differentiate from the other windows versions.
Subscribed to the WinFuture.de channel, they just uploaded a video demonstrating Multiple Desktops

Seems like they refined window animations and put shadows on windows as well
Anyone else think that the preview window for modern apps is nicely shown?

It's a bit vague in my opinion.
Something to compare it with

It'd be nice if all the new system icons followed the color scheme you chose in the personalization menu, sucks it's probably not gonna happen, though

Would be nice is there was a intuitive way to change them,
Make an application that makes a icon set based on your theme registry
I hope they improve font rendering. ClearType really needs to be improved.
Also I hope for better High-DPI and muliple monitors with different DPI support.

I personally think ClearType is perfect the way it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if they started using DirectWrite in the future.
I like all the customization options ClearType has so I'm perfectly fine if it stayed as it is, I don't know much about DirectWrite but fonts in Chrome and Steam look awful and fat when I turn it on
I hope they refine the icons a bit more.
I know the explorer.exe icon probably is a placeholder, but even deviantart provides better icons.
A Complete overhaul of all icons would be amazing, especially for some older icons.
It's a couple of weeks before they announce it and release a very early preview of an OS that won't be fully released for a year or so. They're going to refine the icons.
Just the fact that they've done it a little bit gets me excited about it since it shows its something that's on their roadmap and they've genuinely got plans to replace all the icons.

It's all already just "Windows" for marketing purposes, that's what I believe is actually happening.
The OS is probably still getting called Windows 9, but MS will market "Windows" and not "Windows 9"
I guess that skype notifications only will work with the app and not the desktop version.
i hope that they fix the DX memory leaks in 9.
there is no reason for an old game like NFSu2 to be using all 8gb of my ram

I'm pretty sure desktop apps can still use metro notifications. I've seen one desktop app that does it.

How do you know it's DirectX and not just the game itself? Surely if it were DirectX it would affect all games, and all games would take all 8GB of your RAM.

MalwareBytes does.

They even call them toasts like they did in Longhorn. It took them over 10 years to add that and virtual desktops back.

Screenshot of 'Storage Sense' via WinFuture, seems to be some sort of new file organization system?
I just want WinFS already, c'mon MS.
ReFS is already available for Windows Server 2012 R2, and it will probably be available for Windows "9".

ReFS and WinFS are two different things.

on WP, Storage Sense is just shows you how much space is being used up by what.
I just want WinFS already, c'mon MS.
I think you mean ReFS, WinFS was Longhorn.
ReFS and WinFS are two different things.
Yes, but Didn't WinFS get canceled?
I was hoping this would be the version where they actually take the UI seriously. Oh well, the new features look cool but I don't think I'll end up using most of them.
This. The Windows API's that most apps use weren't designed with scaling in mind, the best Microsoft can do is just resize the viewport of the app. It's mostly up the the developer to make sure their application scales well.
Though what I'd love to see from Microsoft is a whole new set of desktop API's that are built with modern things like DPI scaling in mind.
Since this is pretty much guaranteed to never happen I will just switch to GNU/Linux when the time comes, I don't like most modern games anyways, all my old games will run in Wine.

I don't see the point in keeping that stillborn around, just unnecessarily complicates things.

That controversy is genuine proof that your so called "computer expert" Gaaaamer "power user" is really just slightly more informed on computers than the average person, but with an insufferable attitude.

these companies wouldn't bother upgrading though since their old XP systems do what they need just fine
