should do just like SA and have a Windows & Windows Software megathread, works real well [editline]1st May 2015[/editline] also, i don't have one bad thing to say about gabe, or the team, or microsoft as a whole with how they're approaching W10. (that's my preferred acronym, we'll see what catches on). the fact that they are so transparent and willing to open that dialogue with consumers about stuff like aero glass and the start menu really is a huge step away from the sinofsky shitfuck that left a bad taste in our mouths
I honestly didn't mind the sinofsky approach - even though the community has a lot of good ideas, they also have a lot of shit ideas. Personally I liked Windows 8, but 10 is looking mighty fine as well (and obviously many of those who disliked W8 seem to like W10 so whatever).

The only real Sinofsky marks left are the MS Confidential disclaimers and the build fingerprinting introduced with 8. Other than that, it's pretty much down with him.
From a purely consumer standpoint, Sinofsky wasn't as bad as other huge corporate leaders I can think of (fuck stebe) but I would much rather have the Microsoft that acknowledges that people have been asking about stuff like Glass transparency over the one that pretends the criticism doesn't exist
Does anyone know how to have 2 different wallpapers on dual monitors? I did it in an earlier version of W10 but it looks like they removed the old W7 personalization
Does anyone know how to have 2 different wallpapers on dual monitors? I did it in an earlier version of W10 but it looks like they removed the old W7 personalization
as far as I know, the only way to do it natively is to set two wallpapers on rotation. only issue is that you won't be able to choose which monitor gets what wallpaper other than manually choosing "Next Wallpaper" using the context menu. third party, there's a few tools like Display Fusion (I believe it's called that) and some other I forgot the name of
should do just like SA and have a Windows & Windows Software megathread, works real well
Okay sure, I'll do the effort and bother with a WDG thread. Any objections?
This icon is so awful, Microsoft wants to take a bold stride into the future but is afraid of letting the most trivial burdens of the past go
I think it's more that Microsoft knows that most consumers have the IQ of a toaster and would think "Microsoft stole my internet!" If they changed the name AND the icon.
I think it's more that Microsoft knows that most consumers have the IQ of a toaster and would think "Microsoft stole my internet!" If they changed the name AND the icon.
I'll have to agree with this. I've been doing freelance IT for a few years now, and the amount of stupid is nigh-impossible. It's like people shut their brains off when they use a computer. It's bizarre.
Stupid fuckers get what Safari is for in their fucking iPads like 10 seconds, they've radically redesigned everything including the colourful Windows logo for the better, why can't they do the same for their most hated product?
1. Safari's always been the Mac web browser. 2. It's still the basic shape, 4 squares/rectangles forming a larger one. I'm pretty sure if they changed it to something way out there, like a multicolor capital W, people would lose their shit.
1. Safari's always been the Mac web browser.
Internet Explorer or Netscape was the Mac's web browser before Safari.
Why the fuck does the start menu keep coming up. Im trying to play a game, the start menu opens, the game minimizes and everytime I try open the game, the start menu opens and minimizes it again. What the fuck. How do I stop this
Before the iPhone. Anyone I know who owns a mac currently would have not owned one before then.
So apparently Win32 apps will now be available in the Store, which is honestly pretty nice. As long as you can get them on the internet as well, I think that's a logical addition really.
A proper update management centre for win32 apps is what I want the most, I can see this being really useful!
A proper update management centre for win32 apps is what I want the most, I can see this being really useful!
As useful as that is, I'm more excited to see those Win32 apps being hosted in a sandboxed App-V container, and from what I understand that'll mean it won't clog up your registry or appdata folders as they'll be using a virtualized registry and filesystem.
here's a question for people who understand windows architecture far better than i do, at what point could we see native Win16 emulation support rather than having to run some shitty bloated VM running win98? surely the old stuff is basic enough that they could conceivably do a Windows XP mode except have it be Legacy Windows mode? would be really cool to run old software and games that way, although I doubt it will ever happen.

Never. I believe I read somewhere that there was an attempt for WoW32 to run on WoW64 but the conversion of the data ended up being corrupted during translation.
Anyone know how I can get rid of a problematic update from the Windows Update list? This bugger right here borks my display every time I let it install. At this point it's keeping me from updating to the newest build.
Right click -> Hide update.
Right click on what? I can't right click on the update in the list, nor after clicking "Failed ...", nor while it is updating. [editline]3rd May 2015[/editline] Got it! Turns out MS removed the ability for us to restore the old windows update panel (which had right click -> hide update functionality), so you have to use a vbscript to set the update to hidden. It works! https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_update/how-to-block-automatic-reinstall-of-a-driver-from/bff07224-4ce2-4b42-ab29-68c3a305d730
jesus christ MS it's like you're taking every good idea that's ever been had about how to handle system updates and doing the exact opposite, what even the fuck
I've been pretty disappointed in 10 from a poweruser perspective. Otherwise it's still shaping up nicely though.
jesus christ MS it's like you're taking every good idea that's ever been had about how to handle system updates and doing the exact opposite, what even the fuck
Considering how the new settings panel is still being developed I wouldn't assume that the ability to hide updates isn't going to come back.
Considering how the new settings panel is still being developed I wouldn't assume that the ability to hide updates isn't going to come back.
oh i'm sure it will eventually, if not of Microsoft's own free will then because enough people bitched them out but that's one of the things that you should probably make sure is still accessible through a reasonable interface at all times. they should have kept the old Win Update UI around somewhere (perhaps hidden) until they got the new panel finished
honestly anybody who is in the technical preview should know that they often remove core features or menus in one build and replace them in the next. that this update option is removed should be no surprise. it should be back within the next build
