I'm a Gnome 3 fanboy myself.
I also love Enlightenment but its default skin is kind of not that great (and the only person who makes themes for it has the same sense of design as whoever thought Windows XP's Luna theme was a good idea) and the apps made for use with EFL are pretty poor functionality wise.
I dunno. I just think I'll always love XFCE and never be able to use anything else.
hey man, whatever works, i'm just saying KDE can be changed to respond to your criticisms of appearance
XFCE is just as good imo, maybe slightly better looks wise because it actually looks OK out of the box

Yeah, I guess I've never really taken the time to tweak KDE.
Is anyone getting weird freezes on Project Spartan (Microsoft Edge) on latest version of Win10?
Is anyone getting weird freezes on Project Spartan (Microsoft Edge) on latest version of Win10?
I have been having explorer.exe have some really weird CPU spikes that lock up for about 2-3 seconds. I noticed that Spartan did the same. Not sure if there is a relation.
well IE and Explorer were deeply linked for ages (to the point where in Win9x and/or WinXP you could type an http:// URL into Explorer and it would turn itself into an IE window), so it wouldn't surprise me if Explorer continued to share the same symptoms as Spartan if they're still using the same DLLs for a bunch of things.

It was available in 95 and NT 4.0 (with the v4.72 shell update, installed with IE4 as "Windows Desktop Update"), 98/98SE/2000/ME/XP x86/Server 2003, AFAIK it got removed during Longhorn/Vista's development
My one gripe with removing old tech is the inability to hack MS Agent back into existence in 8

I don't think there was a W8 starter.
I'm wondering if it's worth using Win10 now as your main OS? A lot of people do it and seem to have no problems. I'm not scared of losing stuff or bugs but i never tried a preview build of any windows before. How does it work? Do you automatically get all the updates and new builds as they come out? And what happens when the OS comes out? Will you have to reinstall everything, or seeing as it's free for those with win7, will you be able to simply upgrade it without reinstalling anything?
The reason i'm asking is because one of my HDD is failing and has around a month or two left and i want to replace it with a 2tb one. But i want to reinstall everything and start using it alongside a clean win10 install. I'm wondering if i should wait since Win10 seems to be coming out in the summer, or should i just use the preview as my main OS?
I would still like some reply or advice from someone here who uses it as his main OS. Or if updating it to the final version when it comes out will require a clean install and how will it work.

My advice is to never use a preview as your main OS. It's pretty stable at the moment, but the weirdest bugs can pop up out of nowhere. For example, back in the Windows 7 previews, there was one version that would absolutely mangle MP3 files.
Plus, Microsoft hasn't totally elaborated on how the free upgrade will work, but most likely you WILL have to do it as an upgrade install over an existing Windows install. I've seen rumors that there'll be a way to exchange older OS keys for a new Win 10 key, or be able to activate 10 with older keys, but I'm doubting that.

If that happens, I think MS is done making money forever.

I really hope they bring back blur across the UI. I'm love what they've got implemented in the start menu now, but the dull grey window borders don't look good with a blue tinted UI, they could at least be transparent. I'd also like to see the notifications, Sidebar for Cortana, etc. implement it so it feels more uniform.

If they did go with that option I'm pretty sure you'd only be able to redeem a key once.

You can probably install 8.1 pro through dreamspark and upgrade it.
Windows 10 is currently free for anyone on Win7/8/8.1/ and RT, (might be wrong about RT) my laptop originally ran Win7 and updated to 10 pretty easily, it looks great but there are a few visual glitches you may notice. They also completely redesigned the shitty metro apps and now have it running in desktop as you said. I highly recommend Win 10 for anyone who currently has 8 or 8.1, it's just a huge overall improvement IMO.

RT will get a special version of Windows 10, but it won't have all the features of full Windows 10.

it'll be windows phone 7.8 all over again, they'll just add a win10-style skin and a couple of features and that's it

Source on this? I heard RT was getting abandoned, in general.

Sort of. They've still got the Surface RT platform to support, and the Raspberry Pi Windows 10 project, so they're releasing a stripped down Windows 10 RT for ARM devices.
the new Win 10 drivers from nvidia fixed my graphical glitch problems (at least i think they are new?? it only told me about them today)

Funny, under Windows 10 a 4 terabyte page file is recommended.
Quick question, when I update my 64bit Win7 desktop to Win10 will I lose all my installed programs? Like steam and included games I have installed?

Really despise the system they have on Android, where all the vendors+carrier combo's have their own updates and often lag ages behind on system updates.
And when security problems arise, you often won't get that update for your 2 year old phone.
