The main thread says that windows 10 MAY be a free upgrade for windows 8 and windows 7 users. This article I just looked at http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/operating-systems/windows-10-release-date-price-news-and-features-1029245 says that it will only be free for the first year :x. Sorry if I'm late.

Well. I'm the guy who had a display driver update that on each install would bork my display after a bit. I managed to hide the update with VBScript. A few days later, the newest preview build was released. I was unable to upgrade. Every view days, auto-update attempts to update me and rolls back. This is annoying. I researched the error code (0xC1900101-0x4000D), and I believe the fact that I have an incomplete update (the one I hid) is preventing me from updating. Does anyone have an idea for fixing this?
http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-mobile-microsoft-is-taking-control-of-os-updates-from-the-carriers Nice

However, there is some bad news in all of this: the upgrade from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile will still be in the carriers' hands, so if you bought your device from your mobile operator, you'll still have to wait for them to roll that update out.
crap
In other words, no one is getting it
Yeah I think I'll just wait for a native W10 phone.
I'd really like to see the android rom version I like the design of my nexus five, it's like a big black brick on my desk, no front facing branding, OSD buttons I can still settle to buying an actual windows phone though
So what if I already have the technical preview installed on my phone? Can my carrier do anything about it?
So what if I already have the technical preview installed on my phone? Can my carrier do anything about it?
Men in suits will be arriving at your location shortly. Failing that, your phone's battery will be remotely detonated.
So what if I already have the technical preview installed on my phone? Generally though, carriers don't give too much of a fuck what phone is on their network as long as you pay your bills and don't crash their cell towers.
crap
Good thing I bought my Lumia 930 from Harvey Norman, even if Harvey Norman doesn't deserve my money. [sp]That warranty tho[/sp]
Seriously Mouse without borders is the best program ever. My laptop's running W10 and my desktop's running W8, but I've just plugged them into the same monitor - when I change between them I just push the "Source" button on my monitor, and then I'm there. With two monitors it'd basically be like a single computer.

Do you guys know if they'll let you download a free ISO, not just an upgrade-installator thing if you own 7/8.1 ? I really hate the idea of "upgrading" an OS, I'd much rather start fresh, plus I'm planning to buy a SSD for Windows 10

I really hate the idea of "upgrading" an OS, I'd much rather start fresh, plus I'm planning to buy a SSD for Windows 10
ISO's will definitely be made available What I would do though, while it might be a pain in the ass is to upgrade first, before doing a system clean. This should give you the opportunity to maintain the license, and copy it down. Generally now (win8), the licence is stored by the motherboard, and moving the installed drive to another computer will require reactivation, with the off-chance of a 5-10 minute call to a call centre
Or clean install the old OS and then upgrade
My deepest desire is for them to remove the 'Folders' dropdown in My Computer and native quick-preview support for PSDs and PDFs, like how you can hit 'space' on OSX and it'll bring up a browsable preview

Surely someone made a windows alternative, right?
Any word on file explorer tabs?
Any word on file explorer tabs?
Doubt it's going to happen with 10 this late. Maybe 10.1,11, or whatever since this is apparently the "last windows".
I don't think Explorer's getting an upgrade in 10, which is really odd because it really sticks out now.
Has anyone tried symlinking GTAV's asset files from another drive, by any chance? I just tried doing it on the latest fast build but explorer is being strange with the file type and sizes, I don't know if something changed with how symlinks are read that's tripping up the game or it just doesn't link symlinks to begin with, because it won't start.
I don't think Explorer's getting an upgrade in 10, which is really odd because it really sticks out now.
Try going into tablet mode, opening explorer in full screen, and then go to the properties of any file. I'm probably not the first to report this, but it looks particularly awful. Explorer just needs some new icons and so on in my opinion (as well as a touch counterpart), but the control panel should definitely be integrated fully into the new Settings pane.
Hello Microsoft, I think you missed a bit: [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/0o65GJ.gif[/t] (Mouse cursor appears top left whenever you press one of the softkeys on Windows 10 mobile)
I installed W10 tech preview on my tablet and man this is special. Runs like ass and when you lock the device the screen remains on. Should have expected this :/
I installed W10 tech preview on my tablet and man this is special. Runs like ass and when you lock the device the screen remains on. Should have expected this :/
I found that it ran badly for the first few runs, but generally soothed out. Also check sleep settings
Oddly enough, reinstalling the graphics drivers worked great. Now have a tiny, underpowered HP Stream 7 running Windows 10!
