After several tries, for some reason my update did not error this time!

RIP old file associations, but I'm excited for the changes at least.

This looks so wrong

Ok, the computer that's got Windows 10 on it can't boot because apparently my winload.exe file has expired (0xc0000605). Not only this, I have a windows 7 installation disc but I can't repair or restore the preview because:
a. a restore point doesn't exist, and
b. It can't act as an upgrade since I have to log into the computer to do it.
I don't want to have to erase everything on my computer. There are files on there I don't want to see erased - what do I do?
I should also point out that pressing f8 on the recovery screen does absolutely nothing.
EDIT: I was able to fix this because luckily, the laptop on which the preview is on has a second OS that allows me to change the date back a few months. Doing so allowed me to boot into the main partition.
Since I have done this, would updating to the newest version of windows 10 prevent this from ever happening again?

I remember reading xda
Obly is kill
I'm fucked if I wanna go back to 8 on my Stream 7, huh? It still has a recovery partition but I can't access it, and trying to factory reset in Windows leads to failure.
I suppose I can just go the other way and update it to 10122.

It got too fucked to update somehow, Windows Update would just piss and moan and nothing worked. Couldn't get into recovery so I dumped the recovery partition to a USB and booted it from there, it's now resetting. Fingers crossed; I liked W10, just not ready for 7" 1GB RAM tablets yet.
Wish we had gotten this build:

I actually noticed in public build that they changed the start screen on tablet mode
It hides the list on the left, which holds the power and account icons
It's popped into a hamburger menu, on the top left
It's a fucking chore to hit it now, having to slide my hand up to the top, while holding it while lying down

Wow, fuck you Neowin. Every time I try to visit on my phone, ads take over and open the Play Store.

If you're rooted get AdAway.
I won't say that this is really big
But having it set without login is a nice improvement over previous releases

oh god I did that once and I had english and japanese text mixed, it was horrible.

Your English searches still work, as they did in 8.x

I had mine set to Romanian for the longest time. Usually I'd forget until I opened an MS product (Romanian UI) or a save dialog (default filename was always "fără titlu")
i have windows set to japanese all the time because some games tend to not work unless the system is set to that (not just locale settings)
i know where everything is with hotkeys or muscle memory, and windows 8 makes it way easier to just hit win S and do something

We used alpharomdie to crack the angel beats restriction, which was important, as my friend actually managed to preorder it
I can't wait to install it... Then get rid of that horrible recycle bin icon.
Why is everyone so obsessed with the recycle bin icon?
Why is everyone so obsessed with the recycle bin icon?
It's going to be the first thing I stare at on a Monday morning, of course I'm going to have a problem with it.
Why is everyone so obsessed with the recycle bin icon?
I don't even think I've had the recycling bin on my desktop since I had XP and discovered I could remove it.
fuck the recycle bin, how about the fact that in 2015 microsoft still offers an "upgrade" path from your current version of windows to 10?
and it doesn't fucking work and will break your system
[editline]24th May 2015[/editline]
"clean install is the best and easiest way to test for bugs" - except for the fact that when it gets released, 94% of the fucking userbase is going to do an in-place upgrade because they don't know enough about computers to do a clean one. that, or they're scared of losing data and can't figure out how to make a backup. so how about
1) making a functional upgrade path (will never happen or work because MS, while now more transparent in their dev cycle, is still shit)
or
2) removing the damn option altogether and teach people how to update their computers the right way
Whats wrong with the upgrade path? I've never seen it actually fail.
A majority of people that go from 8/8.1 to the latest upgradable build get this wonderfully Microsoft error message after rebooting:
"Windows could not configure Windows on this computer. Please restart to install Windows."
And then you restart, and your PC no longer boots because Windows crashed during the post-setup configuration of everything. Hope you made a backup!
Upgrading only ever worked between official released and not for beta or technical preview or anything like that.
Although it would be nice if they warned you better, but i am sure it'll be more stable when the official release hits.
Yeah, that seems like an issue I can't imagine would be in the release build...
I should have figured that the upgrade wouldn't work right, but I decided to give it a go because I'm an intrepid tester of almost anything, and I had a bunch of programs I really didn't feel like going back and re-installing + updating.
Good news is that I found a bug! While staring at the "Installing Windows - Your PC will restart several times" screen, I had the automated installer for Razer Synapse pop up into the foreground thanks to Windows Update.
[editline]24th May 2015[/editline]
For the record, too, the first time I installed the TP was an upgrade from 8.1. That was way back for 9926 though.
You have no idea my level of hatred for razer synapse
every goddamn time I plug in my mouse
Yeah, that seems like an issue I can't imagine would be in the release build...
I wouldn't say that......anyone familiar with Windows knows that in-place upgrades are the bane of most computer janitors. In my experience, it's one of the biggest causes of problems in consumer-level PCs. Win7 to 8 broke so many things for people
Whats wrong with the upgrade path? I've never seen it actually fail.
I think there's something about the specific combination of hardware in my rig, or maybe the drivers for them, or something, I dunno, but I've actually never ever been able to do upgrades successfully, they just don't work. I've got no choice but to do a clean install every time, and even then I sometimes get errors and only manage to do it after a few tries.
But the vast majority of people with Windows own pre built desktops or laptops, both of which will generally not have that kind of hardware problem. I've barely ever had any upgrade issues on anything but custom built computers.
But at any rate, to get the best experience, we should all just be doing clean installs every time. Given the choice, I would probably just do clean installs anyway, I only ever tried doing upgrades before for the convenience.

But it's great to see that enterprise will be able to have a lot more control over updates now
I personally have never had an issue upgrading Windows when possible, but I'm still preferential to clean installs.
