Upgrading your current install to a beta build is masochism.
At least image your current Windows drive, unpack that image onto another partition (bleh) or another SSD/HDD (most preferable), THEN do an inplace upgrade if you're so inclined as to do an inplace.

yes this is definitely the right thing to do if you intend on testing in-place upgrades for consumer use
The universe is clearly toying with me then
Because despite all my bizarre problems everywhere else, Windows in-place upgrades have been 100% smooth sailing for me every single time I've done them.
You have no idea my level of hatred for razer synapse
every goddamn time I plug in my mouse
When I installed windows on my new computer I had my Razer keyboard plugged in.
Before I even began installing the damn os it popped up and asked me to install synapse
Does anyone know if you can put spaces in wifi passphrases yet? I couldn't as of a couple months ago so I stopped using 10 at work.
I've never actually had a successful in place upgrade.
With having an SSD I figure it's better to just put all of my important data (mainly my Steam games) on a big hard drive and just install the OS and basic essentials on the SSD with a fresh install.
For some reason I actually enjoy setting things up for the first time on an OS.

Fuck that shit, usually takes me about 8-10 hours to set things up to how they were, gigantic waste of time.

Mine's generally a gradual thing over a week, grabbing software as I need it
Ninite does help a lot

Ninite is amazing. A must have for fresh builds.
"Alright now that the resolution is set to something acceptable it's time to start installing the drivers again, oh right I don't have firefox yet, ah fuck now it wants to install flash player, okay now the drivers are downloaded AH FUCK I DON'T HAVE 7-ZIP YET"
etc
Just downloaded it and having a big problem!
I am the only account (admin) on the PC yet I get an error every time I try to run something in admin mode I get an error.
I cant change the UAC either because when I click OK the confirmation window flickers then goes again
Any suggestions
Upgrading to 10 from 8.1 on my Ultrabook, wish me luck.

hope you made a recovery drive
fuck the recycle bin, how about the fact that in 2015 microsoft still offers an "upgrade" path from your current version of windows to 10?
and it doesn't fucking work and will break your system
[editline]24th May 2015[/editline]
"clean install is the best and easiest way to test for bugs" - except for the fact that when it gets released, 94% of the fucking userbase is going to do an in-place upgrade because they don't know enough about computers to do a clean one. that, or they're scared of losing data and can't figure out how to make a backup. so how about
1) making a functional upgrade path (will never happen or work because MS, while now more transparent in their dev cycle, is still shit)
or
2) removing the damn option altogether and teach people how to update their computers the right way
Updated from 7 to 10 with no issues aside from that one start menu bug that was fixed after I restarted soooo :v: Yeah it really depends on your hardware.
hope you made a recovery drive
I did.
Works good so far, the only thing not wrking is adjusting screen brightness. Which sucks quite a bit.
[editline]25th May 2015[/editline]
Love the start menu and that I can finally use my gmail calendar without external apps.
[editline]25th May 2015[/editline]
Trying to install the old 8.1 drivers that orked for me, the S440 is a bit ichy with this anyway.
Shame. If I can't figure this brightness stuff out I might roll back since I do need the battery running time and display brightnes is like the biggest factor.
[editline]25th May 2015[/editline]
Works
Lol

why is there no standby mode option in energy settings for when I close the laptop lid?
Dumb Question Time!
So I assume that Apple won't be making their BootCamp drivers for W10 until its (official) release?
I really want to put it on my school/work Air, but I really have no idea how well W7/8/10 runs on these things

Win 8.1 drivers might kinda-sorta work
Will DirectX 12 benefit games that use DirectX 11 and later DirectX API's? I know it won't be able to offer the features of DirectX 12 to those games but do you think we'll see framerate boost's and any other benefits? Or will the old games just run like they normally would?

He was just making a joke, hakula your tatas.
To answer your question, not really, no. DirectX 11 games will be stuck with DirectX 11 APIs and features.

Probably framerate boosts, but not because of DX12, just because it's a newer and more powerful card.
Apart from that no real change
has anyone talked about the built-in game recording from the xbox app? i just used it for the first time and am pretty impressed

It's good because it's a lot easier for anyone to now record game footage, instead of downloading and setting up software. But it's not special as it's still requires a decent CPU if you don't want recording to decrease performance.
Win+G is actually pretty smart, as there's almost no chance of having that key bound to anything else

What are the hardware requirements for that? Tried it on my laptop with Win10 and it said I didn't meet them (unsurprisingly), and the help link redirects to the MS home page. I'm assuming it may require cards with built in encoders, such as NVENC (Nvidia's ShadowPlay)?
[editline]27th May 2015[/editline]
Also I've noticed chrome does work properly on Windows 10 (the title bar, minimize/close buttons). It's only when you install a theme that it breaks.

Any word on a release date?
Any word on a release date?
Rumor from AMD exec is late July for RTM, so probably the usual October for general release.
Unknown if upgrades from 7 and 8 will be available in July though.

where can I read about the game recording/modify its settings? I noticed it pop up the other day, but no idea how to configure it beyond using it
