Is it the Surface 3 or the Surface Pro 3? Big difference. Surface 3 is Windows RT while Surface Pro 3 runs full Windows 8.1. The RT version cannot run regular windows programs but it does come with a special version of office which works on it.
No, the Surface 3 now runs normal Windows 8. They switched to an Atom processor instead of ARM.
So it should replace her iPad and her Macbook? She only uses Office and IBM SPSS on her laptop, both of which are Windows programs, so I'm thinking she'll be fine.
I'd say so. I'm not too sure what SPSS runs like, and she would probably want the 4GB RAM Surface 3, 2GB RAM might not be wise.

Believe it or not 2 GB goes pretty far on these devices. Enough that unless ypu open 20 tabs in Chrome and are a heavy mutitasker, you will not notice.

Apparently SPSS needs 4GB of RAM, so I'll let her know. Thanks for your help, guys.
Wait, animated desktop?
I wish. That would be so cool if it was animated.

Microsoft should bring back dreamscene. I guess someone could make it for Stardock's DeskScapes. I haven't used it since Vista was new, no idea if it still works.
fuuuck i'm genuinely SO excited about upgrading from windows 7 to 10, 10 looks absolutely amazing, and like it's gonna be really good. The new icons and graphics looks superb

I upgraded from 7 to 10 preview on my old ass laptop from 2009 and 10 runs so smooth and fast compared to 7. Not to mention it automatically found all the drivers so that's cool.
On the note of automatic drivers, Win10 is amazing at that shit. I've have a Dell Latitude 2120 (some serious shit) and it found everything. It doesn't help that Delp has 12 network drivers, all of which don't work.

Oh, my bad. I'm fairly sure the earlier surfaces were ARM though.
Updated the mail/calender/contacts package
Tile now matches the system theme which is great, but it's image is outdated
Window icon is updated though
Also the window titlebar is no longer white, so it's great to see some colour coming to applications

Yeah, the older Surfaces are. Microsoft finally decided Windows on ARM sucks and decided to stop.
So I decided to take the plunge and install the Insider Preview. So far I'm loving it, of course it has it's bugs but I also find it helpful how easy it is to report issues. Heck they made an achievement system to make you feel like you're being rewarded for beta-testing. Even if it is just a happy ding sound followed by a picture that only you and other testers have received.

I might have found what might be a fairly massive bug in Windows 10. I clicked "Show in Folder" on a downloader client and caused the OS to blue screen.
Gonna try and repeat it a few times to see if it's application specific or just a one time glitch.
Will I have to reinstall Windows when the final version is released if I install the Tech Preview now?
I upgraded my laptop from 8.1 to 10, and now the sound is crackly whenever I plug in headphones. speakers sound fine, nothing wrong with the headphones on any other devices.
tried updating the drivers it didn't help.
it's a toshiba satellite s50-b with connex smartaudio hd if that helps.

No, the tech preview will upgrade straight to RTM as if it was an updated preview build.
I installed Windows 10 TP on a second HDD yesterday for testing and for some reason my keyboard and mouse now remain on after shutdown. It's not a huge problem but my mouse has a blue LED on it that bothers me a bit at night. Is this related to some setting I'm not aware of, it doesn't happen with seven.
I hope that in windows 10 I can group certain processes when they run, because a lot of things run in multiple processes so it'd nicer to organize them and have something contain it's related processes.
For example a chrome catagory, or spotify, or nvidia drivers so that they make it easier to find other things I'm looking for
i can't really find anyone else talking about this but i'm having some major memory management issues since i've been on 10. it doesn't take long after a fresh reboot before things start getting really slow and i notice the system and dwm processes are eating up a lot of my 8gb of memory. the whole os just starts chugging, becoming slow and unresponsive

and more often than not i get popups telling me i'm out of memory and things will close randomly. it seems really bad and uncommon. i have a healthy amount of programs open but nothing that exceeded my workflow back on 7.
i've tried various things like editing paging file sizes and stuff but i've not had much success. any tips? can i just chalk this up to being a technical preview and hope it works itself out as they approach release?

DWM has a known memory leak. Just end the process and it will restart.
I generally don't mind filling out surveys, but what does my favourite musical artist or me liking to make connections between ideas and the like have to do with the insider preview?

For marketing reasons?

Wot? Where is this achievement system?

Good. It pisses me off to hell that the iPhone can't do it in Camera Roll.
