The insider program sounds really swell. Guess it's time to buy that new SSD anyway.
the icons need a refresh imo neither the metro win 8 design, or the win 7 design because they're dated now
Ew.. this is definitely a step back from the Windows 8 start screen. What was wrong with it before? Why not just use the old style start screen on hybrid devices? That big column at the left is nasty. Also interesting to see that the small tiles seem to be easier to arrange now. It looks like they must behave more like they do on Windows Phone. [editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
the icons need a refresh imo neither the metro win 8 design, or the win 7 design because they're dated now
Well it's not going to be officially out for almost a year. They'll probably refresh them by then. Though I thought that with Windows 8.

I thought this was going to be a parody where he'd keep stalling the preview til the video ended, took half of the entire time the multi desktop thing sounds neat though, cleaner taskbar and keeping related windows together pretty efficiently
"Snap asssist": "Task view" Looks really nice.
Oh man yeah all the new multitasking features are the part getting me really excited. [editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
Where did you get this from? I can't find it on any news sites, but I emailed Paul Thurrott and he said it was real.
Why did you lie to me Paul? That apparently fake screenshot looked so damn good. Maybe it was real, they're just not releasing that build yet? I dunno.
Here are some HQ pictures from the Windows blog http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2014/09/30/announcing-windows-10/ [t]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/Tech-Preview_Start-menu.png[/t] [t]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/Tech-Preview_Start-menu.png[/t] [t]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/App_Commands.png[/t] [t]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/Tech-Preview_Three-program-snap-and-suggestions.png[/t] [t]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/Tech-Preview_Task-view.png[/t] [t]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/Tech-Preview_Virtual-desktop.png[/t] [editline]30th September 2014[/editline] Looking at the pictures. Then you can really see the DPI scaling taking place!
Windows 10. Should have guessed given Microsoft can't name their products for shit. Next year Windows One will come out. Again.
Windows 10. Should have guessed given Microsoft can't name their products for shit. Next year Windows One will come out. Again.
Nvidia skipped the GTX 800 series because they thought that the 800m series would make it confusing or something.
Nvidia skipped the GTX 800 series because they thought that the 800m series would make it confusing or something.
It'd be annoying if they had some huge "confusion" they wanted to avoid with 95/98, but I think I'd sympathize if they simply didn't want to give the hype hate bandwagon the phrase "windows nein" :v:
Nvidia skipped the GTX 800 series because they thought that the 800m series would make it confusing or something.
Yeah but there isn't any version of Windows 9 anything.
Yeah they haven't actually given a reason why they skipped 9. Publicity is my guess.
Yeah they haven't actually given a reason why they skipped 9. Publicity is my guess.
NT Kernel Revision 10?
I found a bit of Microsoft: Two different window frames. Different sized buttons, one with black text/glyphs the other white. [thumb]http://az648995.vo.msecnd.net/win/2014/09/App_Commands.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/New-Experimental-Tab-1.png[/thumb]
Is it really being called Windows 10 or is someone pulling our collective legs? I'm very confused.
Is it really being called Windows 10 or is someone pulling our collective legs? I'm very confused.
They announced at their conference earlier today. Its official.
Is it really being called Windows 10 or is someone pulling our collective legs? I'm very confused.
It's Windows 10 because OS X was taken.
the icons need a refresh imo neither the metro win 8 design, or the win 7 design because they're dated now
File Explorer and My PC both have new icons. It's only a matter of time before they change everything else.
Ew.. this is definitely a step back from the Windows 8 start screen. What was wrong with it before? This looks like the full tablet interface.
They announced at their conference earlier today. Its official.
Did they actually give a reason why they went for the name change or will it be as much of a mystery as the Xbox One?
Did they actually give a reason why they went for the name change or will it be as much of a mystery as the Xbox One?
They sort of did. It was incredibly vague though and probably more tongue in cheek than anything. They decided against Windows 9, and didn't want to call it Windows One ("because we already did that"). So yeah, not really an answer.
They called it Windows 10 because of the 10 different devices that it will run on. 1. Internet Connected Things 2. Phone 3. Phablet 4. Small Tablet / Reader 5. Tablet 6. Convertible 7. Laptop 8. Desktop 9. Xbox 10. Perceptive Pixel (Wall Mounted Screens)
