to answer your question then if you're not allowed to fuck with networking, tell legal to fuck off, since you can only disable it with the _optout thing
In unrelated news, standby time is fucking incredible. My Windows tablet hasn't been plugged in for 5 days, and its still going with occasional use. Active standby is actually useful now. I was lucky to get a day in 8.
In his workplace's case, they are worried about the possibility, as having the option is just as risky as it being selected by default. After all, legal is the definition of CYA. However, using PSKs in an enterprise environment is basically only a step up from no/WEP encryption. Like I mentioned, PSKs are usually stored in plaintext on client systems. However, the solution is exactly what I figured, which is use 802.1x for authentication. Kaukassus should look into it if possible, of course I know the answer from the higher ups will be "lol no that costs money/is inconvenient!"
I don't think most people here (Especially Lawyers) know about 802.1x or felt the need to use it.
It's almost impossible to do accidentally You need to explicitly go into the Wifi sense section, click the network, then click share, THEN type the password This took a while to write :v:
Well that is reassuring, since it still requires the input of that password somewhere to allow for another person to use it, so I guess thats fine. And it's good to know that this should be off by default. As said, I have no idea how it works because I haven't tried that option out and only heard about it from other people.
to answer your question then if you're not allowed to fuck with networking, tell legal to fuck off, since you can only disable it with the _optout thing
I will suggest the implementation of 802.1x when we get an infrastructure meeting together again.
blah blah blah the password is not visible to end users it doesn't share more than direct friends from people who have access to original password windows will only connect to the internet when it is using a wifi sense password
blah blah blah the password is not visible to end users it doesn't share more than direct friends from people who have access to original password windows will only connect to the internet when it is using a wifi sense password
I can imagine the bigger issue is that: "Can you guarantee as a company / Sysadmin that the Client connecting to the Wifi will not Bypass his client-side restrictions to gain access to other services on the network?" So while this measure may help the security of the common joe's wifi, It's pretty useless in corporate environments. Then again, a company should have a properly configured firewall in place (Aleast my firewall is properly configured) But most companies will never have a perfectly secure infrastructure, as this costs money and time, and most companies will see this as a place to save money and will neglect security, unless an incident happens.
Did a fresh install of 10166, can't activate or update to 10240. Send help please Seriously don't know what to do, do I just have to downgrade to 8.1 and wait a couple more weeks? That would suck.

I just upgraded from 8.1 to 10166, got the 10240 update a few hours later, and I'm now fully updated. I am in the preview program though.

[editline]16th July 2015[/editline] Wait yes I'm certainly in the preview program because I keep getting newsletters from gabe aul Wait are preview and insider the same thing?
ok so what's that first app in that list? [t]http://i.imgur.com/XefgaFJ.jpg[/t] and I still have duplicated apps :/ [t]http://i.imgur.com/FN52mVp.jpg[/t]
I snagged an ISO a while ago but, I never got around installing it.
Windows10_InsiderPreview_x64_IT-IT_10162.iso
I forgot to write my key down, will that be a problem if I decide to install the ISO? Was it simply a generic key?
Anyone tried this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/instructions-create-a-bootable-iso-file-using-esd/d2768b51-221a-436e-af4e-d3b9118a8864?auth=1 The .esd file should be in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources before the install is started (but is prepared for restart to install the update).
Anyone tried this
It's been done already [t]http://link-removed.xyz/i/2015/07/15-07-16_18-40-22.png[/t]
Whoops. I was looking for a download link on the last page. Anyone have one?
How exactly is Microsoft making money from Windows 10 again? Is the Home edition free or what?
How exactly is Microsoft making money from Windows 10 again? Is the Home edition free or what?
Through businesses probably.
Through businesses probably.
As long it's not some Windows update paid subscription BS.
Even though I just did this on my laptop I need someone to remind me how the update in place while getting rid of apps and keeping files works. Does everything inside C:\ get put moved the Windows.old folder and the desktop/my documents get moved to the new folders? I've got BF4 in the root folder and I'm concerned about space on my SSD when upgrading to 10 and whatnot. I won't lose any space while upgrading right? Other than the space 10 takes up on its own?
How exactly is Microsoft making money from Windows 10 again? Is the Home edition free or what?
Windows 10 is not free for OEMs, so through that and businesses I suppose. And from the store money that might start rolling in. No "subscription bs" going on.
No "subscription bs" going on.
It will be interesting going forward from 10.0, whether they adopt the Office 365 take on a subscription for incremental updates. Which is probably what they're aiming for long term. [editline]16th July 2015[/editline]
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxllGyJCTzUpVk4tX0pCR1hZVVk/view
If I burn this to a DVD and boot from it, which CD key do I use? And do I then get the full version for free?
If I have to pay for Windows every month, year or whatever, I will have to kill myself or use Linux, whichever is easier. I want to pay for one licence once then Microsoft can go away, I don't want a message saying "sorry, we could not extract funds from that account, we cannot verify with server due to a connection problem" then have to sort through 500 possible causes every month from internet issues to bank issues.
Is anyone in the US able to see any more options available on the 'Contact Support application? I think that there's something missing from previous experiance [t]http://link-removed.xyz/i/2015/07/15-07-16_21-47-27.png[/t] also this is pretty spooky, There are windows there apparently
[vid]https://fat.gfycat.com/ImpossibleArcticKudu.webm[/vid]
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm building a new PC that'll be finished around mid august (when the parts all arrive), I bought a copy of Windows 7 with it. If I use this (the old) machine to reserve a copy of 10, will I be able to use the upgrade on the new computer?
You can get Windows 10 for free regardless of whether you "reserve" your copy before launch or not, so do not fret.
thank you kind sir
How exactly is Microsoft making money from Windows 10 again? Is the Home edition free or what?
Enterprise, OEM licensing for new hardware and App Store purchases.
Installed via the .ISO provided earlier, working like a charm.
You can get Windows 10 for free regardless of whether you "reserve" your copy before launch or not, so do not fret.
Up to a year after launch [editline]16th July 2015[/editline]
<@Jaex> because Windows 10 fucked my cursors and i cant do accurate selection for image editor <@Jaex> so i cant mark rectangle things <Scrxtchy> reinstall graphics drivers Jaex <@Jaex> i did <Scrxtchy> hmm <@Jaex> latest driver have issue <@Jaex> and if rollback to working version <@Jaex> then windows update instantly installs again latest version <@Jaex> and windows update not possible to disable <Scrxtchy> what driver? like nvidia etc. <@Jaex> nvidia <@Jaex> they not even put that broken driver to their website <@Jaex> but they put it to windows update <@Jaex> so we can test that broken thing
Well shit

This crap came out of journalists misunderstanding Windows as a service as a subscription. But since then they've clarified over and over again that it's not going to be like that. It actually just means get it once and you'll be sorted forever with regular updates. The licencing agreement they released recently says absolutely nothing about subscriptions and is squeaky clean. [editline]16th July 2015[/editline]
Installed via the .ISO provided earlier, working like a charm.
I thought they weren't activating new clean installs?
