Should I be getting a GWX icon in my tray if i'm a windows insider? I have all updates installed.
[editline]28th July 2015[/editline]
And a recent e-mail says i should be getting my update the 29th, but how can I be sure that I will get it if I have no icon?

just wait
it looks like it's going out in chunks
[editline]28th July 2015[/editline]
also the upgrade is failing for everyone in windows update seeing how the folder is missing boot.wim
aka a kind of important part of the installer
I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro SP1 today because my old install of 7 didn't want to update to SP1.
So I've installed almost all the updates windows threw at me... all 214.
KB3035583 didn't make any kind of appearance so I installed that separately and it went through successfully.
A timeline of recent events:
Install all Windows updates.
Install KB3035583
No icon.
C:\Windows\System32\GWX\GWX.exe
Icon Appears.
Double-click icon
A window appears
Progress wheel and "please wait" for a split second
Window disappears.
Now, if I double-click the GWX icon in the systray the same thing happens.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Guys, can someone tell me the way to make a clean install without upgrading?

Buy the USB dongle and shove it in
otherwise, you'll have to upgrade first before resetting to a clean install

What do you mean?
Oh that's interesting, if the info about the folder is correct, it seems nearly everything has been downloaded quite a bit ago.

I'm only missing the boot.wim too.
What do you mean?
first you have to generate the install media (or use complete refresh in windows)
which can only be generated from that windows install
therefore you upgrade dirty, make the install media, and then reinstall
Is there any downsides to upgrading rather than just doing a clean install?
Some programs you'll lose but nothing too important like steam and your games. They only two I noticed were gone were razer synapse and speccy
Oh, seems it attempted to download boot.wim on my end too. Is there a way to force it to attempt a redownload?

that's not what that means
that is it trying to begin the upgrade process (probably checksumming and shit)
and since boot.wim has not been distributed, it will not work
boot.wim will not be available until the 29th (in your timezone i believe)

It's in C:\, it's a hidden folder.
So, any way to force the update?
I don't wanna wait anymore

Interesting, I got it. and but it didn't say that it failed on me. i have noticed some internet spikes in the last few days. so this could be why.

I didn't say it was accurate, nor was I aware it was inaccurate, stop jumping to conclusions and being quick to call me out on it.
Does anyone know what happens when you upgrade on a bootcamp version of Windows 7?
