AMD doesnt need to catch nvidia as a custom cooling design already makes it superior to the 780 ti.
Also it was designed to be 95°C.
CPU's used to be that hot back in the day.

So quick summary while i wait for my work clothes to dry.
At my job we want to start a giant pool, so i have 2x 290x and my friend bought four 280x's and one 7950. Other co-workers have 290x's and 280x's stocked up also. (AKA customers are pissed we are buying them all).
Last night I went to work (I was off) and took my co-worker home so that we could put his mining rig together. Picture of the 1500watt EVGA I put in the case and all the video cards including my 290x

Then everything started going south. The case in the picture above has a Gigabyte X79 UP4. I popped out the 660 inside of it and then went to unbox the asus 280x. Fuck. They are 3 slots. There goes any chance of 4 cards inside this rig. It completely blew over our heads cause when we got them in weeks ago we laughed at the 3 slot design. Well fuck it we can do two right? So I popped in two and plugged them in.
No video. Took them out put the other asus and the other gigabyte 280x in and no video. Took those out and put just the 7950 in, No video. Put the 660 back in, Video display. The fuck..So I reset the CMOS and tried again, Same shit. After an hour of failing we got my co-workers main rig. Took his 660 out and popped in the Asus 280x and gigabyte 280x and bam instantly both worked. Got the drivers on and we were getting pretty happy.

Fuck it, I ran two 7970's on a Corsair TX750 perfectly fine, What could happen the PSU shuts off right? That's what it's suppose to do. So I get Cgminer running , With shitty settings the cards pulling 850k/hash each. We are smiling as it runs away and then suddenly my co-worker is like

I got the power off before he got to the end of the cable, which was a good thing for him but then bad thing for me. Cause I then put my hand around the case to pull the power cable.

You know how cables are really stiff at the ends and impossible to bend and they aways cause trouble on the surge protectors. [b]they were bent exactly 90 degrees on both ends since they just drooped[/b]. I was able to squeeze both ends when i grabbed it and both sides touched each other then i let go cause my hand was on seared.
The PSU then was searing hot, I went for the switch and once again. The only thing we could do is hope the wire didn't catch fire with the carpet cause it was way to fucking hot to touch. As it cooled the wiring began to bubble where it formed cracks and smoked out of and we were finally able to remove it from the PSU, and the surge protector end was white on both the plug and surge end.
The cards, MB,CPU should be fine. But we will find out this weekend when we group back up.
My 290x is currently running making 800 k/hash which is lame but the best i can get out of it.

I'm thinking that photos shot on film look pretty good even ones taken a few decades ago.
