Vertical taskbars, homies. This is at my work PC, hence all the Office and VS2012 and SSMS and shit. Split across two monitors, obviously.
Started using a vertical taskbar because 720p windowed games fit perfectly on the space to the side. Never went back, I find it a ton more comfortable to use.
should I get this now and a computer that can actually drive games on it later, or reverse?
When do you guys think the prices on the R9 series cards are going to go back down? I was going to buy a 290, but all the prices everywhere are hiked up $100-200 due to the massive demand for Christmas/people trying to get into mining.
I want it too but I don't have $350
should I get this now and a computer that can actually drive games on it later, or reverse?
I'd get that now. You can always run games at 1080p on the monitor while you wait. I've got a QHD monitor, it's well worth the money/performance hit. [editline]qhhhd[/editline] automerge
should I get this now and a computer that can actually drive games on it later, or reverse?
what's the brightness, contrast and refresh rate on that bad boy
what's the brightness, contrast and refresh rate on that bad boy
8hz and a lot of contrasts. also some brightnesses.
what's the brightness, contrast and refresh rate on that bad boy
from massdrop: 440 cd/m² maximum brightness, 6ms response time, 60Hz refresh rate, 80,000:1 maximum dynamic contrast ratio I had really wanted a 16:10 30 inch panel but honestly, they're such a good price even without the massdrop, that I'm not sure if the 600 dollars for the extra vertical space is worth it
those are really impressive specs, I see no reason not to go with it if the build quality is good. I was monitor hunting a few weeks back and was reading nothing but horror stories about 'too good to be true' deal monitors, most coming fresh with dead pixels/rows, wonky bright light leak from the edges, awful stand design causing tilt/breakage, etc, so tread lightly Monoprice always confused me with their exceedingly cheap digitizer tablets (I remember one for $12) but I hear nothing but praise
Started using a vertical taskbar because 720p windowed games fit perfectly on the space to the side. Never went back, I find it a ton more comfortable to use.
I use it cuz vertical space is better to have than horizontal space, especially on 16:9 monitors.
I've gotten so used to 16:9, everything else just seems weird.
16:9 is literally the devil, I much prefer the Compaq LA2405wg's we have at work over my 1080p deal at home.
To bad 16:10 wasn't the standard.
I'd never get a 2560x1440 display for my main setup, and I'm slightly worried that the trend is going to make 2560x1600 extinct in the coming years, but then again by the time I'll be upgrading 4K will be the standard. I'd be super interested in a 45" display running 4K, keeping the same dot pitch as my current 30", I've not really got an interest in making everything smaller with a 4k 32" display.
I'm mostly interested in wider and wider screens these days. I find that the wider the aspect ratio the nicer on the eye it is.

I should probably just buy it though right? THE INDECISION [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] how will 560ti 448 core do at 1440?
I should probably just buy it though right? THE INDECISION [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] how will 560ti 448 core do at 1440?
For most games, I imagine just fine unless you need rock solid 60 fps. Disabling AA usually helps a ton I've found on my 6850 and 7870, and sometimes you might just need to tone the settings down. I could get away with 1440p on the 6850 (roughtly equivelent to a 460, so yours is better) with Medium settings, no AA @ about 45-60 fps in Battlefield 4. Either that or set the resolution to 1080p and upscale (IMO, it doesn't that bad). The additional real estate on the desktop is worth it either way though. I actually do have this exact Monoprice monitor. Its reasonably good for the price you pay. I think I found one dead pixel, but you can barely see it at arms length. And there's backlight bleed when the the picture is dark. About what you expect from these cheap A- cheap LG panels though. That's why they are being sold so cheap in the first place. The actual build quality is decent as well. It doesn't feel like it will disintegrate into pieces, and its a good 25 or so pounds.

THE INDECISION [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] how will 560ti 448 core do at 1440?
Probably not too bad - I use a 6870 on my 1440p screen, and I still have some games maxed out. Just keep the AA off and turn down the settings where needed.
We have just updated the beta with the following changes: add global setting to allow downloads during gameplay, and change the per-app settings to be global/allow/deny.

And there was much rejoicing.
And there was much rejoicing.
No longer will we need to alt-tab out of games to restart the possible mirad of game dowloads that we will inevitably incur this Steam Sale
Nor will we need to go to each of our 200+ games and allow downloads.
And with 8.1, there are now two Windows buttons! THERE CAN NEVER BE ENOUGH WINDOWS BUTTONS!
If you count the charms bar, THERE'S THREE, all accessible by mouse. [editline]19th December 2013[/editline] Rumors say that in Windows 9, the entire screen will be a Windows button.
flux makes me feel like i'm in the future because my entire computer is like deus ex: human revolution now
I'm kind of surprised, but I got used to it. I don't even notice it now. [editline]19th December 2013[/editline] Well, except for when the sun goes down.
