wondering when garry is gonna add windows 8.1 icons to facepunch
8.1 icons? What? [sp]Besides if you talk about tiles then I'm pretty sure that's more of a steam restriction[/sp]
Trying out this Windows 8 Embedded right now, it honestly doesn't seem any different than what I imagine Windows 8 runs like.
I'd probably install it but my Dad'd probably wonder where I got it and not believe that Microsoft gives this sort of thing out to students.
Isn't embedded a very stripped down version?

When using W8.1 it just shows a question mark.
Only problem I've found with it is that the watermark on the desktop doesn't go away even after activation, I've heard it's something to do with Secure Boot.

If it's the "SecureBoot isn't configured correctly" message, downloading the update from the KB article should get rid of it.

Nah it's just the standard 'Build 9600' watermark.

Its probably designed for slower computers like POS systems.

I had that but then it went away by itself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just played Sleeping Dogs for the first time ever.
It feels really "console-porty" if you catch my drift, but I will admit, I was impressed when I took a look at task manager and I saw the damn thing running at 500MB of allocated memory, when compared to Firefox's 700.

It was actually optimized for the PC, thats one of the reason its AMD Evolved.
Did you also enable the HD textures?
Mine uses more than 500MB with everything on max.

also /r/fatpeoplestories are fun. And.yeah, talesfromtechsupport, talesfromretail etc.
There's a UPS hanging from my ceiling.
I'll explain later.

Yeah i have the same issue. I found a tool that get rids of it, but for some reason after i use it the Store will crash when i try to type in the search bar and get stuck when installing things. Reverting the watermark fixes it :v:

Well, Embedded doesn't include the Store in it so I guess that's the way to do it.

Didn't enable HD textures, I downloaded them like 10 hours ago and I haven't played since. I'm wondering how bad the performance hit will be on my 5770, it might not actually be as big as I think if I'm thinking correctly, I should have enough VRAM for it.

I played bf3 at 1080p with high settings and AA off with a HD 5770 and a C2D @ 3 Ghz. I don't think Sleeping dogs requires more than bf3.
Gave it a try, it's OK, it dropped down to 30FPS at one point pretty badly though.
Also, my friend is estimating that our keyboards arrive tomorrow, I hope so. I'm not optimistic though, I don't see any information other than electronic pre-registration when I check the tracking number. I hope the keyboard clicks so hard, my neighbours go insane.

I have left 4 dead 2 running on native resolution with pretty much everything on the lowest settings.
I'm getting around 30-35fps.
Bi-linear vs tri-linear which would get me more fps?

think that would be bilinear
correct me if wrong
think that would be bilinear

Sounds less cool so yeah probably
think that would be bilinear

Yep, bilinear. Bilinear requires four texel lookups and three lerps, trilinear requires eight texel lookups and seven lerps. You can get even faster with nearest-neighbor (one texel lookup, no lerps) but that looks so shitty they don't even have an option for it anymore.
That's assuming that he's bottlenecking on memory bandwidth and/or shader processing. If he's bottlenecked on something else it won't do any good.
