nikon d3100? dude, that's totally fine. all in the glass
nikon d3100? dude, that's totally fine. all in the glass
not really, i don't have any options while filming and the lenses are expensive
nikon d3100? dude, that's totally fine. all in the glass
d3100 is limiting for video. d3200 is perfect for video on the other hand

speaking from experience.
nikon d3100? dude, that's totally fine. all in the glass
but my autofocus :(
if you want to spend a little more, higher end SLR's will have more ports available to you (mic/headphone) but regardless the d3200 still does 1080p quite nicely.
but my autofocus :(
buy lenses with an internal AF motor?
what annoys me is that i only have 24fps 1080p
mic port would be nice
i don't really have a budget for this, it's more of "do i really need such an expensive camera"

higher than 24fps @ 1080 is rare. at least, in the mid range SLR market.
what are you videoing?
but my autofocus :(
Only noobs use AF in video mode
i'd use af in video mode but it's so fucking loud and unpredictable
Just setup my 7th timelapse of the week. This time actually using the 24-70 for a distance city timelapse from our house.
I got my 64GB in it with my new grip with two full batteries. I expect to see it running until tomorrow.
The d3100 is a terrible camera for video it doesn't even have an IR remote receiver or a mic port
Only noobs use AF in video mode
I thought we were talking about photos, sorry

It's hilariously bad on the kit 55-250

So, you guys are going to want to watch this:

The NSA Tailored Access Operations team is literally tampering with your hardware when it's being mailed, when you order shit online.
They'll take the case of the laptop you ordered from Amazon, and injection mold a fucking hardware backdoor into the case, so even if you take the damn thing apart and check the motherboard etc., you can't find it.
And they will listen to your Internet traffic, and if they see any interesting traffic, they'll hijack it by sending their own packets to your machine, before the server you're talking to manages to talk back to you.

hey
so should i go for a d3200 or what? sounds like a small step
if you don't need to make a bigger step then don't. it would help to know what you're videoing
i do it for fun pretty much, some stuff here and there
honestly i don't do it that much anymore if i think of it
I've lent my D3100 to my brother since I haven't been using it. My dad used it on his trip to China, but besides that it hasn't been used in months. Lenses are fucking expensive, so I don't want to go out and buy a 35mm prime lens for $200+ and have it just sit around.
I like the pictures it takes and the amount of control I have with it, though it's just so damn bulky that I can't carry it around with me.
then you don't really need anything more than a d3200 or a 650d. there isn't that much difference in the cameras other than the nikon having a higher megapickle count

if you just take photos on the occasion, any good 50mm prime (1.8d if you don't mind manual focus on that d3100) will do the job.
cheap, tried and trusted optics that will more than get the job done at a small price & size
i'd use af in video mode but it's so fucking loud and unpredictable
Its not even possible when recording on my Canon T3i. Its either locked focus or manual. Not that it bugs me that much. If I'm in situations where autofocus is crucial, I'm using a smart phone or a miniDV Handicam if I need optical zoom.
video af looks cheap, just focus pull manually

Of sorts. I waited until everyone in the house was in bed and rebuilt the network nook because it was a clusterfuck of cables, wallwarts and powerbars.
Was up until 3 and then finished it off the next morning. Networking equipment is now slightly more organized and I replaced all the AC adapters with a computer PSU. Oh yeah, there wasn't enough space on the shelf for a UPS to keep it all alive in an outage so I hung it from the rafters with the SNMP interface.
