I forgot to mention, the NSA TAO claims 100% success rate in "implanting" iOS devices.
I want to know if that's because Apple sabotages their own product, or just because Apple writes shit code. According to Jacob Appelbaum, they didn't join PRISM until after Jobs died.
I've lent my D3100 to my brother since I haven't been using it. My dad used it on his trip to China, but besides that it hasn't been used in months. Lenses are fucking expensive, so I don't want to go out and buy a 35mm prime lens for $200+ and have it just sit around.
I like the pictures it takes and the amount of control I have with it, though it's just so damn bulky that I can't carry it around with me.
$200 for a prime is pretty decent. If it's one of the golden primes atleast.
i need more drives
5tb isn't enough
I agree. Next I'm replacing my 400GB drive with a nice 3TB, and my 1TB with another 3TB, leaving me with my 128GB Samsung 830, 2 3TB's, 1 2TB and I also want to get a 250GB 840 Evo to replace my 830 with as a boot drive and use the 830 for games.
those 35mm 1.8f no-zoom lenses are nearly $300 here, it makes me sad
lenses aren't that cheap to make, you'll find that most new basic primes are around that pricetag.
there isn't anything wrong with old glass if you shop carefully.

Why does that make you sad? $300 is a good price for a canon 35mm.
That lens is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who wants lenses to start up their essential prime lens collection.

Not really. Any other prime lenses with a focal length greater than the 50mm F1.4 and isn't the first generation will cost drastically more.

that's why i said basic. anything quicker than f/1.8 is going to cost a lot
you're paying for the work that goes in to them, really.
Want to wish you guys a good new year, I'm starting it off with a 4930k I got for 100 bucks thanks to Intel Retail Edge, And also getting 4770k and 180gb 530 intel ssd for 300 bucks for a build I'm secretly buying from a friend to regift back to them it as a full build. Also waiting for the black rampage to come into my job, Going to put the 4930k and black rampage together with dual 290x's
badabing badaboom
It aint even New Years Eve here.

You're a few hours off. It's not Jan 1st in any of the world right now. 2 hours until 12 in Samoa.
d3100 is limiting for video. d3200 is perfect for video on the other hand
[editline]31st December 2013[/editline]
speaking from experience.
Important: if you're going video with a Nikon DSLR, you're gonna have a bad time
D3100 does auto video, no way to change it, no exposure compensation for video, only exposure lock. Some other models let you have full manual control though.
Every Nikon DSLR (probably still all) still has the live view glitch where in order to change the aperture of the lens while in live view you have to exit live view to change it.
Shit internal mics and mic input pre amps
Using a lower bit rate under the avchd container, 28Mbps max while 24fps uses 24Mbps.
If all you do is take photos and zero video with a dslr, Nikon is good, so is Sony, Canon, etc.
If you're shooting video at all, doing it extensively for whatever reason, Canon is a good choice. So is Sony and Panasonic.
As you're on a budget, a t3i is a good camera to start with, it has a flippy screen, the same imaging sensor as the 60D and 7D in a smaller body.
You're never going to use the video AF. You get stable magic lantern that makes the t3i much better for photography and videography.
The 50mm f/1.8 from Canon is a very inexpensive prime, it's like one of the cheapest by Canon. Way less than the nikon or song equivalent.
FYI if you buy it in Japan, warranty might only apply in Japan and you would be getting a "kiss " something camera, that's what they call the t3i (north American) A.k.a. The 600D (international).

Meanwhile Dec.31 only started a hour ago here at Valvetime :suicide:
I have a D3100.
Mostly for pictures, but I have taken a few videos with it and my sister made a short movie using it. Worked well enough, but yeah, we didn't really have a choice with other cameras so it had to work.

but they're machine made, why would they be expensive like that?
also that's for a nikon lens
My Rosewill RK-9000 is here.
This is fucking amazing to type on.
I rewrote this post three times just so I could type more.
i'm jumping from a 600D to a 5D Mark II for the video and better iso handling, buzzing my tits offff.
For whatever reason they are amazingly cheap and they have them in my favourite blue switch. Worth buying?
Fuck yes. I have blue switch too. Shit is cray-cray, I love this thing. I can't talk for much though, since I've had it for like, 2 hours or something now.
I got mine, plus 4 extra covers (dark blue, silver, gold and a weird pink) for 49€, amazing deal.
As I read your post I discover that no one stocks it any more and pricespy(like part picker but in NZ) lies to me. CM quickfire pro is appealing.
The Quickfire TK is also really nice.
I got a ducky with red switches, my first mech keyboard, I really regret not getting a stiffer switch. Red switches are too sensitive. :P
Happy 2014
$200 for a prime is pretty decent. If it's one of the golden primes atleast.
Still, I'm currently unemployed and don't use my camera much, so if I was going to throw $200 at something, I'd rather it go to my server or car.
On the other hand, I might start using the camera again if I have some decent lenses to work with. But it will have to wait.
I still have to go to work on this New Year's Eve.
But here's to not being hungover this morning and fixing the problems I was having with my computer yesterday.
Happy 2014
I took a moment yesterday to reflect upon the Year of Our Luigi and man it was a boring, tiring and uneventful year. 2014 is filled with hopes and expectations!
Still got 12 hours to go here, but happy new year, CIPWTTKT.
When are intel going to get 8 cores in desktop cpu's? Broadwell?, Skylake?
My 2500k seems to be only marginally worse than the haswell shit, I would have thought the change from sandy-bridge to ivy-bridge to haswell would result in more than a ~5-10% performance increase.

Haswell was mostly power optimization and igpu improvements (they did one heck of a job on that though)

Why do desktops need eight cores? There really aren't that many desktop tasks, even games, that need that much. And for workstation stuff that *does* need that, you can get a Xeon or two, even up to twelve cores. You're just going to be paying out the ass for it.
Like Inplabth said, Intel is focusing on performance-per-watt, not total performance. They're already top on single-thread performance, and AMD isn't really giving them much reason to push higher. I'd certainly like them to build more powerful cores, but it just isn't happening.

Hell, so much so that there have been some rumours going around that Intel might kill desktop core development entirely, Develop desktop chips as beefed up atoms (Yes. Really.), and devote the new resources to building an entirely new core series for Xeon, and compete where they really getting hit hard.
Keep in mind, this is entirely a rumour, could be complete bullshit but honestly... I want it. Intel's getting hit extremely hard in the server market right now, 2s and up, where the money matters. Power8 is a fucking MONSTER. There is no Xeon that will compete with that. Not with Intels current trends. The only way they'll beat them is with their cache, mem latency and fab advantage. That's the ONLY place where Xeon will beat it, plus the P8 core is fully licensable. IBM's playing HARD and it's put Intel in a tight spot, but this could be the an awesome thing to re-invigorate development from Intel.
If you really want more than a beefed up Atom in your desktop, build a Xeon workstation. Low end Xeons would still remain cheap, and would be better.
