Are blank hard drives supposed to have of the storage used up when you first get it?
We just need a new Youtube owner, Google don't seem to have a fucking clue what the user wants.
Are blank hard drives supposed to have of the storage used up when you first get it?
Yeah, my 1TB HDD only has 931GB of usable space. Just the way it is.

The problem with creating a competitor to Youtube is content, because users can't completely move away from it.
Are blank hard drives supposed to have of the storage used up when you first get it?
That's because hdd manufacturers use powers of 1000 and other people like RAM and windows use powers of 1024 Just read this: http://www.howtogeek.com/123268/windows-hard-drive-wrong-capacity/

When using it, even though there's nothing on the drive the storage usage is around 150MB. As in a brand new hard drive has 150MB used space for some reason.
That's hdd setting apart its own porn cache, it's ashamed of it so it hides it from you but being a hard drive it has to report its space accurately
I checked the recycler and any hidden folders, nothing. The only thing I can't access is the System Info folder.

Fucking cheap USB keys. I ordered two absurdly small 1mb keys for storing textfiles and it seems that once you go over the capacity you don't get an out of space error. The key simply corrupts itself and becomes a brain dead "please insert a disk into :$drive" thing.
I can't comprehend how difficult it would be to create a service that rivals YouTube, just the sheer amount of storage and bandwidth needed is insane. Data centres in every major country which are all sharing and keeping the videos available with redundancy. Google had a head start, starting this from scratch would be tricky. I guess Yahoo or Microsoft could give it a shot but it would be one hell of an investment.
If you had the user base you could turn your users into the storage through some sort of client. Managed P2P if you will. Want to upload a video? Well you need to provision some local space to store segments of other videos. You could have a central host and copy of all videos for any lacking "seeds" but you could also algorithmically make sure all videos are available from at least one peer at any one time. Just thinking while typing, doubtless there's a flaw in this plan. Also HDMI has a shite connector, I wish HDMI used the DVI connector given that the signalling is identical.

Paying for 1GB drives? You can usually find 4gb's for free if you look in the right places Hell I got four 8GB drives for free when I was visiting a friend's workplace. It was literally like, "heres a box of usb drives we don't use, want some?"
Fuck go to your school and take one from the lost and found, nobody ever claims those
I bet Warship has enough 4gb USB drives he can go all Scrooge McDuck in them.
Nah, I only have 2. I have a shitload of SD cards and IDE harddrives though.
