Just started downloading it, thought i'd check in. BF4 doesn't want to work (surprise) and it's not like i got exams or something :v:
You guys can try using Google Hangouts, add everyone into a group chat as it can support up to 100 in group chat. Upload photos and use emojis. Free group video calling with up to 10 people and the video call video quality is much better than Skype. You can add people using Gmail addresses.
I've started a group chat and it works so far. 20 people, 15 most active at once, everyone gets the messages.

I miss using IRC. I used to frequent on a channel on GameSurge called #coxmap, which was all FPers at the time. I think a few are still around. I also remember being on #concerned (Yes, THAT Concerned. With Gordon Frohman and all that jazz.) which again was filled with FPers.

The slider is greyed out because neither checkbox is checked.

I don't know how Mumble attenuates but I'm not exactly convinced it's because Windows just hands the audio settings to Mumble on a golden platter. Maybe you shouldn't be mad at the OS for your inability to look into the settings.

Oh I dunno, maybe trust in the developer is a fucking good thing since it gives the ability for useful features such as automatic audio attenuation in voice programs, a-la Mumble, which is fully disable-able by the way. Don't start ripping on a good thing because you're too stupid to learn how to change the settings of mumble.

it shouldn't be enabled by default and start turning down sounds with no indication of what or why it's happening - don't call people stupid for not wanting that to happen

It does, since I disabled the "exclusive control" setting in the device properties, and it hasn't happened now.
And I have the setting enabled in Mumble, so Windows just doesn't hand the audio device over to Mumble now.

I'd suspect a program with context menu integration. Install anything new recently?

I have Displayfusion, but I haven't updated it in like forever and it didn't do it for like 4 months now? Moborobo updated but I don't know if it has context menu integration or not.
I think I should just reinstall windows...

Really, because my anecdote proves yours wrong! I never had the default Windows attenuation turned on and yet my Mumble would always attenuate my background music until I used my brain and checked the settings.

I just did some empirical testing with a friend. Even if a program isn't allowed exclusive control, it can still change the audio settings of other programs.
Take a chill pill, it's not like I'm performing heart surgery on someone, I was slightly annoyed by audio settings being changed whilst I watch cat videos.

Right, because the audio settings were my only problem with the OS.
It appears as if they coloured over the name on the skype window and then put SkypeTM - odd instead of the username.

I didn't even notice that, they put 'ddd', the nickname of one of the main 'hackers' in the movie, probably because 'ddd' was taken on Skype. The CMD window just made me laugh though, I don't even know what they were thinking.
