Whats the meeting for?
validate estimates for dev time required for our next release - I already completed my 2 tasks for our next release, so I don't exactly have a lot to contribute.
also, if I don't eat at my usual lunchtime, I won't eat lunch today period :C
Eat.
bring everyone pizza and juice
Eat, easy decision.
Drink, become the Alcoholic you were meant to be
I wanted to drink. Maybe I'll buy a mini fridge for my cube. There's a liquor store literally 3 blocks off, so it'd be easy to fill.
Except for my cube being in one of the most open areas of the office, but eh. Vodka in a water bottle, done.
I also officially got my horizontal, so no more awkward voided vertical and temp paper shit. :v:
I don't even have my horizontal yet. :v: my vertical expires next year, and I haven't bothered requesting a horizontal.
I actually got denied a beer for lunch yesterday since I only had my vertical. Funnily enough this was the exact same restaurant I went to the day after my birthday and was served a beer. Whatever, dudes.
I have no idea what either of you are talking about.
In the US, horizontal drivers licenses are given to people over 21. It's an easy visual way for people to distinguish under 21's from "adults"
I have no idea what either of you are talking about.
Drivers licenses apparently. Under 21's have vertical licenses and 21+ have horizontal. I guess that explains why my sister has a vertical one. My drivers licenses have always horizontal since I got my previous one when I was 16 in 2008 back when everyone had horizontal licenses regardless. It was just red to indicate that I had no restrictions others than I was under 21.
In MN we just get a big red "UNDER 21" box around our picture
In SD we got that, and the entire license had a red theme. I don't what it is now, since they've redesigned them a few years ago.

This happened to me. "Sorry mate I can't sell to a red man". For fuck's sake. Made worse by the fact that I couldn't get my new license because my old glasses broke, so technically I wasn't even legal to drive for a week or two waiting for the prescription despite my vision being fine.
when did the whole vertical and horizontal thing start?
when I lived in california every divers license was horizontal with a small like of text somewhere saying "Age 21 in the year 20xx"
I got that in Colorado too but I guess we're a better, smarter state
I've got a vertical, but I've also got some text under my organ donor badge saying "AGE 21 ON THIS-DATE-HERE" that I can just point them to.

Its probably to make it even more obvious, if putting text, color codes and such weren't enough.
Apparently, some companies have a policy that they will not sell you alcohol if you have the wrong license, even if your license says you've turned 21 already.
wait what you have to be 21 to drink in america?
wait what you have to be 21 to drink in america?
Short version: Yes.
Long version: It's technically up to the states to decide what drinking age is, but a long time ago Federal decided to tell them all "unless you raise the drinking age to 21 we're not going to give you roads money", so everyone wound up putting it at 21 and keeping it there.

'tis a silly place.
Got into a certain Beta, don't think I should say what one because another user said they got into it and snipped it but I'm sure you can figure it out.
Depending on a state, you can get your license at 16-21, but drinking is at 21 in all states?
Weird shit.

You have to be 21 to buy alcohol. Some states allow underage drinking with parental consent in their own home though. Otherwise, your drivers license will be suspended if you're caught underage (regardless if it was related to driving or not). At least that's how it works in South Dakota.
Adults giving alcohol to underage persons is actually a pretty serious offense.

In South Dakota, you can get a learners permit at 14. I had a full license with no restrictions by 16, but technically could have gotten it after six months of holding the learner permit.

do you have super sweet fourteen parties then? that doesn't sound as good
I went bowling for my 16th birthday. I paid for it with my birthday money.
I remember when bowling birthday parties were the cool thing to have, and then it turned into lasertag.
