My only guess is someone is holding onto their Pentium 4 with dear life, but still wants the latest and greatest version of Windows. Unsurprisingly, this number is remarkably small.

Christ, my eyes just skipped past the fucking thing, the 8 different OS X versions got me bored of the list so I started skipping and didn't remember 32-bit Windows still exists. [editline]4th February 2014[/editline] Wait, WHO THE FUCK IS USING A 32-BIT VERSION OF WINDOWS 8.1 I wish a painful death upon humanity.
My T100 uses 32-bit 8.1 because Atoms still only support 32-bit. On a machine with only 2gb of RAM it doesn't really matter, does it?

And you can use older device drivers that don't have 64 bit support for some reason (which is probably the sole reason 32 bit exists). It does have a place, but I would say its pretty much a niche on modern machines.
My only guess is someone is holding onto their Pentium 4 with dear life, but still wants the latest and greatest version of Windows. Unsurprisingly, this number is remarkably small.
A lot of first-gen Intel Macs have no official 64-bit support even under BootCamp. I had to engage in much trickery to get mine to install Win8 x86-64. There's probably still a number of similar boxes out there whose owners put Windows on it but didn't even notice it was x86-32, much like how it took me a month to realize the non-Pro version of W8 had disabled one of my CPUs.

someone mail him a new mobo and more ram
someone mail him a new mobo and more ram
yeah do this, i'm sure the postman will appreciate your gifts to him (i'm planning an upgrade soon don't u worry)
i never played cookie clicker. I thought it was stupid. that stopped being the case about an hour and a half ago. [editline]3rd February 2014[/editline] also, goddamn is installing a hackintosh hard without a Mac. I used to have a hackintosh, but it randomly stopped booting, so I chucked it, and I can't get a VM to play nice.
i never played cookie clicker. I thought it was stupid. that stopped being the case about an hour and a half ago.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
and now it is fully sustainable and i will let it run overnight.
I got free of cookie clicker by reformatting and forgetting to back my save up
Goddamn this thread is huge. I stopped frequenting it probably about half a year before I got perma'd and seeing it this huge, and gone through so many threads is weird.
and now it is fully sustainable and i will let it run overnight.
that's but the first step. Let me know when you're letting it idle for a week straight.
My Intel NUC arrived Yesterday, here is a size comparison: Move over mITX :v: : [t]http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/194/ikl7.jpg[/t]
Daww it's so cute~~
What you doing with the nuc?
It's going to be an HTPC. I'm trying to get Ubuntu, Centos or OpenELEC on it.
I left my phone's tethering on while it was connected to my computer and it just ate half my battery. Fun. [editline]4th February 2014[/editline] I should stop passing out at the computer because this is getting silly.
I got free of cookie clicker by reformatting and forgetting to back my save up
This exactly. Once you get so many heavenly chips and the game gets super easy when you autoclick at like 10ms intervals with both x7 and x777 bonuses, where you can make several Qa in 30 seconds, it gets old fast. And theres nothing really endgame past getting a ton of antimatter condensers, so it got boring quickly
My NUC seems to be having issues with detecting 2.5" drives, I've tried 3 drives and 1 SSD and nothing. However it does detect the drive when I use difference Sata cable and connect it to a PSU from a different machine, so the theory is that the small cables are damaged or the NUC isn't giving the drive enough power meaning that I need a lower power 2.5" drive. I guess I'll have to RMA it, shame it's a 4 week process .
that's but the first step. Let me know when you're letting it idle for a week straight.
look man I'm still a cookie virgin. gotta take it slow [editline]4th February 2014[/editline] also, anyone else think the new way of signing into multiple accounts on Chrome is dumb? I have 2 primary Gmail accounts, and one forwards mail to the one associated with youtube/G+/all the other stuff. sometimes, time critical mail doesn't show up for a half hour or so, so I have to login to the other account. but instead of typing in username + pass, I have to add the account to my Chrome? seems stupid, especially when I want to only periodically check my gmail associated with my linkedin and stuff.
really? gmail redirection is pmuch instant for me.
it usually is, but when I'm like trying to figure out my Battle.net account and suddenly it locks my account because I sign in on a new computer, I want to take care of that immediately and even when I force a refresh it won't pull down the emails from Blizz. also unrelated, space dandy is the shit
I wonder if the demands of day to day office tasks continue to stagnate we may start to see these things replacing the big bulky towers in offices?
I've seen it happen in a school, all the class PCs were these tiny Lenovo things stuck to the back of the monitors, was pretty neat looking A lot better than the Dell Optiplexes that were the size of a British house

At my college I've seen them with their optical and/or floppy drives broken. Front USB ports busted. Hell sometimes they even had litter in the spaces where the Optical and floppy drives had been removed.
I wonder if the demands of day to day office tasks continue to stagnate we may start to see these things replacing the big bulky towers in offices?
Dell apparently wants to sell hdmi android sticks with a suite of software marketed as thin clients, so I don't see that being too far off
Of course my SGS3's front glass decides to self destruct in my bag THE DAY AFTER I buy $20 worth of a nice case and tempered glass screen protector to it on ebay Gosh darnit
I wonder if the demands of day to day office tasks continue to stagnate we may start to see these things replacing the big bulky towers in offices?
For word processing, definitely. I don't think we will be seeing the return of a mainframe exactly, but tiny boxes are starting to pop up. Though obviously some jobs still require an actual workstation.
