Its really hard to make fundamental changes without breaking reverse compatibility.
Windows is basically sitting on 20 years of reverse compatibility for everything usermode, and ~15 years for kernel.

I had the strangest nightmare.
I dreamt my PC got infected then rebooted into a fucked up Windows interface with gay porn as the background, it had a synthesized startup sound of a capella saying "Fag". Had a weird colour scheme, it looked like Windows 3.1 and Chrome had a fucking Conduit trojan along with MyTunes...

I fell asleep holding my phone, and in a dream I was arm wrestling someone, then I started to wake up but their hand was still in my hand, and as I was waking up I though there was someone in my room holding my hand because I was gripping onto the phone.
Scared the crap out of me.
