Depends on what you want to do and how big a latency you tolerate.
I was just wondering what sort of GPU or CPU power it takes to do it realtime. Programming is way way over my head.
I'm guessing it depends on the hardware, the software, and the purpose. Wouldn't digital point-and-shoot cameras that can detect faces and smiles and the Kinect be examples of computer vision?
I was just wondering what sort of GPU or CPU power it takes to do it realtime. Programming is way way over my head.
It depends on a number of things. The resolution of the camera/sensor, the complexity of your algorithm, etc, it all adds up. Plus how efficiently it's programmed. In an extremely simple system, like my calculator above, it can run on, well, a calculator, which does not have an abundance of system resources(though it was overclocked).
Are of you guys working in the field of computer vision?
I'm an android.
This is a pretty cool concept but the "muh privacy" story ruins the game
I'm guessing it depends on the hardware, the software, and the purpose.
Depends on what you want to do and how big a latency you tolerate.
It's more generate 3D objects from 2D point tracking in real time. just flooding the image with 2D point in realtime,

Some TI calculators have interfaces for arbitrary data, at least. If you can hack a webcam onto one...
So today I went to my mothers store to fix a computer which contained almost all the data relating to the store she runs, without using a backup.
She also has 3 other pc's running for orders, camera's, and for everything else.
So, I inspect the pc, it only has a version of nod32 outdated by 5 years. It has 22 viruses, and hasn't been rebooted in over a year. It was also running xp and had about 128MB's of RAM.
So I check what it's running.
An SQL server and webserver with camera software,
Label printing software,
The 5 year old version of nod32,
Office 2010 background service,
And a lot of store programs.
Now remind this pc is already at least 7 years old.
So the thing is running an old 100GB ide harddrive, and has about 1GB of swap used all the time from active processes.
The other 3 pc's, although more modern, also had no virus protection at all, and one of them even had the credentials of a centralized ftp server for the store saved in plaintext.
I left a note for the centralized IT department of the store chain, who actually maintained the computers every day, that this was idiotic, and one smart hacker could essentially delete EVERYTHING they have and bankrupt the company.
I dont understand how some IT guy's get a hold of their jobs, this was just idiotic.
Your story makes me think about the IT supplier of my school.
They got acer Veriton systems everywhere, and the thing is, the breaker in our classroom is extremely unstable. A few weeks back, the breaker popped, and one computer wasn't too happy with that. After the POST you would get ''Error: No boot disk found or the drive has failed''. They came over to fix it, and last Tuesday the breaker tripped again, while I was making a fucking English test on the computer, and the same computer shows the same error now. Last Friday I didn't have anything to do, so I did some examination because I was bored and I've seen a error message relating to the CMOS before the hard drive error.
Guess what? Turns out the CMOS battery appears to be drained, so every time that computer loses power, the BIOS resets to default values which caused that hard drive error.
How. Just how. I think my dislike for acer is correct yet.

Reminds me of the day a breaker popped while we were typing assignments in class, every computer died except for mine, apparently it was on a different circuit to every other machine in the class :v:
Good thing on our school, we have to bring our own laptops.
The only bad thing is the minimum requirements of the PC's that we have to bring.
Intel Core i7 or i5 Haswell
A minimum of 8gb RAM.
Microsoft Office 2013 Professional (MS Access is needed)
Microsoft Visio 2013
Windows 8 Professional
The Licensing cost alone is about 700$ (If Windows is not preinstalled, or an older version is installed. AKA win7)
Good thing, nobody follows those rules, since they are not enforced, but newcomers on this school who don't know about this and splurge big amounts of money away.
Funny thing, They have a recommended model on their site for new users.
It costs 1800$
HP EliteBook 8570p 15.6" Notebook
Intel Core i7-3540M 3GHz 4MB DualCore Prozessor
4GB DDR3 FSB 1'600MHz RAM / 256GB SATA Solid State Drive
AMD Radeon HD 7570M 1GB GDDR5 HD+ 1600x900 Grafik
And they fucking added the inclusion of a small RJ45 Cable as a feature.
What the fuck

my mind is officially fuck
Did anyone see this before?

I had to check that video to see if it was an actual thing Hitachi made. it totally is.
well it's certainly better than most tech commercials.
Looking through DX to laugh at shit

I don't understand why this is so hilarious, it's just a fucking PCB with some LEDs and usb contacts, it serves no purpose other than to burn your eyes out whenever you look at your computer
bad
Could you elaborate? I've never seen a post on FP say anything good about an ISP that wasn't Google so I'd like to know what I'm about to have to deal with. Do they have caps? An unlimited plan? Throttling? Also how is their TV service, might get TV if they offer anything good.
if i had more usb ports in the front i'd buy it, i've had to put duct tape over my reset button because i accidentally hit it with my headphone plug

Friend gave me a 1TB WD green cause i'm almost out of space on my 500, what would you guys recommend to clone my 500 onto the new one?
edit: because i'm not keeping both

Backup steam, do a fresh install.
Backup steam, do a fresh install.
I have a 90GB SSD as my boot drive, the 500 is just storage and games
I have a 90GB SSD as my boot drive, the 500 is just storage and games
Connect the 1 tb along side 500, backup steam to the 1tb, along side any other files. Don't clone it.

Some of them in our classroom are on a different circuit as well.
The year before there were only two computers per classroom, running XP.
Now in our classroom there are 7 of them, and therefore they added some extra wall outlets and LAN ports, so like 3 or 4 of them are on that unstable breaker.
The thing is, the breaker has a very high chance of going out every week, especially Tuesday. Because then we make our own soup on a hot plate, which of course draws a incredible amount of watts.
I always carry around a laptop or two (or just one with a backup battery) because by the time the damn computers boot up here and get you logged in I could pretty much be done with half my work and then some

I think you could look at it like an "Engineering School"
Made for Apprentices for jobs like Programmers, Sysadmins, and anything that has to do with Machines or technology.
They claimed to be the "Most technologically advanced" school in Switzerland, and point to such great things as "We are using moodle for our students" and "We do everything digitally" and "Our classrooms have digital whiteboard, but no one uses them"

99% of those i've ever been in a room with where never used.
Apprentices are not Engineers tho
