Just gonna put it out here:
Classic whiteboards > Digital whiteboards
I don't need a fancy whiteboard, that has problems recognising the Laptop ond only works 50% of the time. when I just need to draw a simple diagram.
The ones I've used were the ones that required the projector and you couldn't see stuff sometimes when you were writing or it would have been awkward to write a lot on that board.
If I didn't lock my desktop my sister would be on there every single time I went for a piss.
my suitemates have dicked around on my computer and i don't exactly trust my family members not to use the triple-monitor battlestation that's roughly 20 times the speed of their laptops once they encounter a problem so i have to lock mine

What does your sister do on your PC?
or is it a shared PC?

I don't leave my stuff unlocked because I'm paranoid and my computers are all in shared spaces (especially in a dorm). Granted, if someone would really want to they could get in, but that sends the barrier or effort over the amount it would be worth change your wallpaper to a dick or something. Which has happened because I forgot to lock my computer.
Also I use RDP. And its a given if you're on Linux.

It's my computer but she gets on there for I don't know what fucking reason. Last time I kicked her off she had tried to google something about warts, fucked up the srcds config file I had open and also opened a bunch of extra terminal windows by mistake.
So apparently comcast thinks these speeds are completely normal...

I'm telling you. Call up and threaten immediate termination of service like I mentioned before. If they give a damn, you get support. If not, you are in no worse of a position.
I'm telling you. Call up and threaten immediate termination of service.
We've done that and all they did was give us a new router.
Plus they know our only other option in the area is AT&T and they're way worse.

I find that turning off "Use hardware YUV -> RGB conversions" helps the picture quality.
You know I'm really impressed with modern technology sometimes, I mean compared to even a few years ago, I plugged my laptop (Vaio Pro 13) which weighs a sliver over a KG into my main display and keyboard/mouse to do some work in IntelliJ as I didn't feel like setting up on my desktop, and I forgot that I was using a laptop thats less than 2cm thick and opens programs instantly, has no lag, and feels just the same as using a huge desktop.
I mean I've just been browsing FP and some online, writing some word and chatting on skype, and the speed of it all just is amazing to me.

I would imagine that's due to the fact that general usage hardware requirements has stagnated in the last few years and that (or at least appears) general usage doesn't seem to benefit from better hardware.

I think the main difference is down to the SSD, the 5400/7200 was a big divider between laptops and desktops (and still is right at the bottom end) but my desktop and HTPC have identical SSDs (crucial m4) and the desktop does feel slightly snappier, both are Ivy Bridge but one is Dual Core and the other Quad Core, so the base hardware still does make a bit of a diffrence, but nowhere near the same as going from Core2Quad to an Ivy Quad.
sorry I fail to see how not locking my pc is dumb

Depends on the posts being made, I'd think.
Guh, are stock Intel coolers normally pretty loud? I can't unhear it.
My lga1150 one is pretty quiet.
Mine's 1150 as well. Don't Intel use like 4 different OEMs for their coolers?
The intel coolers noise level rams up extremely quickly compared to aftermarket coolers. At lowish temperatures it's reasonably quiet, but as soon as it gets toasty, it gets mildly intolerable. Even minor differences in airflow can result in drastically higher noise.

Well mine's in an ITX case with relatively good airflow, and I have a twitch.tv recording playing and it's staying around 40 degrees C. I'm guessing it should normally be quiet in this situation.
Is that something I can fix by getting a different cooler?
Mistyped its a 1155 but it hasn't changed since 1156 so if you're hearing it, your PWM is working it too hard even at 50c it should be BARELY audible

BTW wind tunnel airflow better for blower cards or should I arrange my fans for a open design GPU. Opinions will affect what I buy as an upgrade
IMO blower cards are extremely loud and most open GPUs are usually way quieter and cooler as long as you have adaquate airflow in your system and aren't running cards in a cramped setup.
[editline]16th February 2014[/editline]
Although once I started mining I had to keep the side of my case off with an open GPU because the temperature climbed pretty heavily inside with my 3-fan setup. (Might add 3 more fans since my fan controller allows it)
That's why I would like to know. I'll draw a diagram for my scout 2 and again I'll ask again what I can do
You have to keep in mind that many blower cards have inane sound and fan speed thresholds to keep cool, though. An open design running at 100% is usually quieter than a blower running at 100% because of fan diameter.
[editline]f[/editline]
From what it felt like, the sheer difference in heatsink volume and fan diameter aiding heat dissipation seemed to be far more of a factor in temperature than the rise in ambient case temperature because even though the ambient case temperature might warm, it's going to be nowhere near as hot as the card. (Though if someone comes up with any data to the contrary I'll eat my words)

I had a 7950 open fan and now have a stock 780 blower and the 780 is quieter a idle, under natural load, and when I forced the fan speed to max the 780 is still less noisy than the twin-fan 7950 was.
The 7950's fans used to ramp up to 80-90% regularly to keep the card cooled but I've never seen the 780 go above 65% on natural loads.

Mileage definitely varies on individual heatsink design, case airflow and card efficiency though. I don't think I ever heard my open-fan GTX760 spin up during gaming unless I mined, whereas my blower 570 was an absolute vacuum cleaner.
