Every single other review I've seen, notably TTL, have given it nothing but praise. This is the first bit of negativity I've seen at all, especially the "falls behind the competitors" part.
still, I'd be moving away from corsair these days
i feel like they've overextended themselves as of late
still, I'd be moving away from corsair these days

How? They make some of the best products in every single field they're in, and I don't get what you mean by overextended. They're not moving into any new markets. Their most recent shit would be their closed loops and they're widely considered the best.
Mileage definitely varies on individual heatsink design, case airflow and card efficiency though. I don't think I ever heard my open-fan GTX760 spin up during gaming unless I mined, whereas my blower 570 was an absolute vacuum cleaner.
Certainly, I mean I think in my case the 7950 I had (XFX)'s cooler could have been better, and the Stock 780 blower is certainly an extremely well designed and built bit of kit.
Now I'm in a mini-itx case with no exhaust fan, I have to use a closed blower card (the previous anecdote was from when I had my rig in a mATX Define Mini with sufficient exhaust and intake fans).
It really depends on the card/cooler and your exact airflow setup than just the open/closed part.

Not saying it should make any difference or anything but TinyTomLogan's vids are sponsored by corsair, just something to think about.

TTL got me to buy the Cosmos 2.
I no longer trust TTL
Guh, are stock Intel coolers normally pretty loud? I can't unhear it.
I haven't had a desktop Intel since Kentsfield but that one had a fairly quiet stock cooler. this was like 2007 and I swapped it out with a Zalman 9700 within a few days though so I may just remember it wrong.
that thing was overclocked stupid high too and sat anywhere between 60c and 85c before I changed coolers so it was at 100% basically 24/7

Woah now, like I said, more than just TTL, it's just that TTL had my favourite review.
You know I'm really impressed with modern technology sometimes, I mean compared to even a few years ago, I plugged my laptop (Vaio Pro 13) which weighs a sliver over a KG into my main display and keyboard/mouse to do some work in IntelliJ as I didn't feel like setting up on my desktop, and I forgot that I was using a laptop thats less than 2cm thick and opens programs instantly, has no lag, and feels just the same as using a huge desktop.
I mean I've just been browsing FP and some online, writing some word and chatting on skype, and the speed of it all just is amazing to me.
For the past week I decided to give my Ivy Bridge Macbook a break. I instead used my Gateway built in late 2006 with a Core 2 Duo, 3 GB of RAM and an (upgraded) 500 GB WD Black running Debian. It runs Windows 7 VMs like a champ, does web browsing and HD videos adequate, and did all my school work and labs on it. Actually, in some aspects, it felt a little faster than my Macbook, probably because of it having a faster HDD.
Heats up a little more in videos and the battery life isn't nearly as good, but as a day to day machine, it still can still keep up with modern laptops. :v:

I still can't believe Apple to the last days of the classic MBP shipped it with a 5400rpm drive by default.

I don't know why any laptop manufacturers really do. They amount of battery drain is miniscule at best, and really don't cost that much more, at least to us end users. A little noisier....maybe?
Anyhow, when a 7 year old Core 2 Duo with less than half the RAM and a much slower processor can still keep up with a 1 year old laptop because of the HDD, that's pretty bad. This thing has 1.5 Gb/s SATA. Not that it makes a huge difference for mechanical drives, but sort of demonstrates the age.

Mechanical drives need to die off in laptops ASAP, at least as boot drives. Even with a 16gb SSD cache drive, my Y500's 1tb 5400rpm drive holds back to user experience so much.
Its all about the cost, I mean for buget laptops if a HDD is £2 cheaper per unit, over 1,000,000 units that's a big amount of dosh.
I've said this a few times, though I'm hoping by the next time I have to buy a new laptop (Assuming my Vaio Pro doesn't die before it should), I would be able to hook up my three monitors (Probably through DP chaining) and play modern games at a good FPS with Intel graphics. Or AMD if they can somehow get on track with power efficiency.
I'd just come home, plug my laptop into power, displayport and USB. Then I'd have three monitors, a few terabytes of external storage, gigabit networking, audio hooked up to a USB DAC and the rest of my peripherals.
The only thing stopping me from doing this now is that the Vaio Pro only has one HDMI output and I like playing BeamNG Drive, JC2 and couple other GPU heavy games occasionally. If Steam Home Streaming was flawless, I might be able to turn my current desktop into a server for that.

Everything I've read about the Cosmos II is that it's an oversized, overpriced, underbuilt mass of mediocrity.
Holy shit, main website of company down.
All abandon the sinking ship!
Sysadmins and Powerusers first!

This ain't dubstep. Ain't nothing dropping here.
I found the source of all evil, and boy it's mad.
Due to the webserver screaming in pain at me, that it's disk is full, the CMS decided it would be a good idea to delete the config file with the Mysql user and pass contained.
10/10 - I am truly mad.

Well... it freed some space up, right?
I have an insane nerdboner right now.

I was not expecting this shit to work, I'm living in an apartment building, with massive buildings all around me, and the antenna is sitting on top of my computer, and I'm still getting the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast frames without any problems.
Fuckign finally I fixed the site.
70% of the time was wasted, because I had no access to the backups.
Noctua make really good low profile coolers for itx and they are quiet and better in the air cooling class.
Heh, I was actually coerced into not getting that cooler before I bought my rig, I regret it now considering I'll need to tear the entire rig apart in order to install the cooler now. :smith:
For some reason I don't think this is accurate

Also the game is fun as fuck
I now have a friend connected over the network to my SDR dongle thing, and he gets the same air traffic info on his client.
I almost got it working so that my dedicated server reads the data from my PC, and then spits it out to anyone who connects to it, but I'm using netcat for it, and netcat kills itself the moment a client disconnects from it, and I can't figure out a way to stop it, otherwise I could host it so people can connect to my little dongle and look at plane traffic.
So I got a MSI TwinFrozr 560 with no fans, but perfectly good otherwise. What to do with it?
Sell it on eBay?
(or local auction site idk)
Anyone want to look at planes?

Now let's hope my proxy solution works properly.
