[QUOTE=kaze4159;43970563]Couldn't actually get into the room since they were locked for maintenance, but the case sticker says i7 and the desktop has an nvidia control panel icon :v:
I don't think the keyboards are backlit, that might just be reflections from the monitor

It looks kinda backlit, maybe it is.

reasons universities buy dell and hp and alienware instead of inhouse builds is the support and warranty. it is not practical to have to pay for every part when a decent warranty will pick up the tab

Yeah but...Why not just a regular HP/Dell workstation of sorts?

My opinion is that gaming PCs tend to be cheaper but sometimes they can be more powerful than the workstations' GPUs and CPUs.

Each desktop at my school has a 5 year warranty and recently every dell desktop was upgraded to a core 2 duo with 4gb ram. Double the processing cores and quadruple the ram and still running good old xp. If anything breaks it either gets the broken part fixed or the entire thing replaced quick.
well, its hapanon. skydrive is now onedrive.
Got my G500S, took apart my G500 to fix the spring, I ain't got time for this shit :v:

Never used skydrive. Is it good compared to dropbox?
mine still says skydrive on both my W8 machines.
I went from Elementary OS to Windows 8.1
Please don't hit me ok
Linux is hard to run as a main OS. I'm using Mint on my laptop solely because waiting 5 minutes for Windows to boot and another 3-4 minutes for the system to open Chrome is unacceptable. (Mint is installed on the 20GB cache SSD, Windows on the 320GB platter deathstar.)
Mint is the shit when you install Cairo. I have a functional Mac without the software compatibility.

If that battery life meter is accurate then that's pretty amazing

Yeah, I think GNU/Linux systems are really neat and fun to tinker with, but Windows is pretty great when you want something that ~just works~.

I use my Linux as a "just works." Windows don't do the whole multi drive setup too well as I found on my desktop. (Mostly an issue with the apps I run, but still.)
The customizability of Mint is some shit though. No wonder it's the most popular distro. Also unlike Elementary OS, this distro has yet to shit itself by fucking up an update.

In a sort of sense, it is.

I've actually had my father on a Mint system for the past year. He's had next to no problems with it. His only real problem is that he can't use a work site for checking info at home because it (of course) requires IE. But he just uses my mother's Windows laptop if he needs to (which isn't often). Everything else was little UI things. Other than that, he has no problems with it, and he's about as computer illiterate as they come. Granted, he can't really break anything, since he's using a non-superuser account that doesn't even have a password.
