Not to mention there's still a silicon lottery out there with how fast it will OC, and especially second hand you don't know if its been running OC'd to the moon and back its entire life.
For $50 or less, if it overclocks at all, you're getting your monies worth.

If you can afford a top of the line processor, go ahead, but if you're on a tight budget it's a good option.
Thinking of getting the left side desk piece and using it to rearrange my desk to look something like this in my room.
-thingy-
It would let my TV be directly in my view for video, movies, TV, but also for twitch chat and such. Secondly I could easily do vlogs directly across the desk. As well as do greenscreening more easily.
for some reason I rearrange everything in my room every 2 months
I want/need more furniture but I have no money and most likely not enough room
but replacing my bed with a futon would make things easier
But an i3-550 has a TDP of 73W, and when overclocked will probably need more power and heat management than that, plus the fact in a small SteamBox you will probably not be using a top of the line GPU due to size and power requirements, so will be dealing with excess heat.
On top of that, the benchmarks in that post were done in 2011, and most titles that need high-end machines have got better in terms of core usage than in 2011.
Steam Boxes don't have to be so small that cooling is compromised.
why would you run a script to run IE?
it uses up CPU and RAM resources till the host crashes. had the script mislabeled on my flash drive, so i ran it thinking it was something else. but yeah, the script ends up crashing the entire VM every time it runs.
Last time I tried moving my bed, I snapped the bolts holding the frame together. I went and bought better bolts, but I'm still worried I'll snap them again. :v:

True, but is it really a good option to be buying a CPU that could have been pushed so hard it dies after a year?
Also, if you want to OC, you have to factor in buying a better cooler.
Plus, here in the UK, they seem to be going for about the same price in £ as they do dollars. (£45 - at current rates about 75$).
It's a decent option on a budget, but its still far from perfect.
[editline]27th February 2014[/editline]
On top of that I can't find any 1156 boards on ebay located in the UK, at least B-I-N.

What did you use to create that image?

I think it'd take a wrecking ball to move my bed. 12 8" lag bolts into studs, and a 3/8" chain, she isn't going anywhere.

Looks like photoshop with rulers.

Photoshop. Made the composition with the dimension of my room. Then using the rectangle tool you can define the size of the objects.

Be super accurate and use AutoCAD or something
I don't like AutoCAD.
I know photoshop since it's secondary to my work, so I can make mockups very easily and quickly.
My brain isn't the best at manipulating objects in my mind, so I had to make something in Photoshop to figure out how it would work when rotated.
currently facing getting my school account deleted (my high school is integrated with the local community college) because i accidentally ran a script that opens internet explorer infinitely on one of the machines running windows embedded, which was unfortunately running on a server that runs every other embedded machine in the entire school. they also brought up how i downloaded an illegal copy of office, named office.rar. its weird how they got that because i downloaded it straight to my flash drive, and it wasn't saved on the shared network. makes me really curious about what they can and can't see. so right now its either i lose the ability to take college classes forever, or i can't access the computers forever. either way, it could possibly cause me to not graduate to 11th because i need every credit i'm getting this semester, and one of my classes requires to have a computer and a $1k peice of software that my laptop can't run.
i also got blamed (kinda, they put full responsibility on my friend who's account got the script put in it) for putting a script in the startup process that also runs internet explorer infinitely. i had a big lie going on it too, which i could have kept, but i didn't realise that there aren't actually cameras in the part of the computer place i ran the script in and they said they were going to security for it.
anyways, i fully accept what comes to me.
Why on earth would you download illegal software on a school network?
Mocking up stuff in PS is addicting. Taking measurements and making little shapes.
this layout would provide me with much more room for shooting vlogs and visual reviews and also greenscreens.

your room looks big
12x11.
I think I'm gonna do a fresh install of Windows here soon. I've removed almost everything from my c: drive but it's still almost full. I don't know what's taking up all the space but I don't think Windows 7 can fill almost 100GB all by itself.
After going through and deleting a bunch of crap and moving just about everything to my other drive I freed up 14gb, out of 107gb.
I've deleted all my pictures, downloads, cleaned up steam, etc.
Thief is unpacking, hype.
I thought theif released a few days ago.
wasn't thief pretty meh?
Which one?

I thought that too, but then I saw Totalbiscuit's video, went ahead to buy it and saw that it wasn't out yet.
Which one?
the new one, a few reviews said it was mediocre

As an IT guy that runs a network that has certain machines on RDP sessions from embedded machines... Everything.
It doesn't matter what you do with your traffic, it doesn't matter where and how you saved the files. I can log and see all of your actions. I can even live monitor your session without you knowing, among other things.
The solution is don't run unauthorised software on hardware you don't own.
Holy shit, I finally found a working proxy for iBoss web filters to get to Facepunch.
This is like the first time in 3 years I've been able to find something that wasn't blocked. Ultrasurf, TOR, pretty much everything was blocked (and I can't seem to reliably host my own VPN).
I'm so happy to actually be able to see the site in the class where I do absolutely nothing on every other day of the week.
Where were you four years ago? My highschool had iBoss and I tried everything but tunneling through DNS. The only thing that worked was the PHProxy script I have on my VPS, but that breaks a lot of sites.

I was given a prerelease copy, and it released monday night but havent had a chance to record any of it.

Am I the only one who reads agreements on computer use before signing them?
