I think so, at least DDR2 is expensive at the moment; since I can't find any that isn't ECC buffered.
Also, I guess I could make small steps towards a better rig. First a new case and a disk drive, then a new Z87 motherboard and maybe a K series processor when Broadwell comes out.

Well, whatever they did DDR3 is now about 100 % more expensive here then in the US, and probably around double the normal price here as well

I think some of the ram price hike is due to the fabs moving over space for DDR4, I mean its due very soon.
