Asking somebody who plays computer games, how much ram their computer has and them responding with "500 gigabytes" never fails.
Just had a guy come into the shop with cryptolocker. Got EVERYTHING but his wedding photos and a few temp files. Guy's lucky as fuck.
Res and FPS? That's really funky. Oh, and do you have VSync on? I've heard some reports of that somehow fixing the framerate problems for some.
playing at 1080p, haven't measured the FPS but I can tell for sure that it's not constant 60 FPS at least. vsync is disabled [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline]
Is Titanfall worth the price if I'm not a huge fan of bro shooters but love big stompy robots?
imo, it feels a lot like CoD with added on parkour, titans and minus the killstreaks. the campaign is a whole different story though, feels a lot more different and enjoyable. game does a better job at feeling like an actual war though compared to for example CoD. worth the full price? eh... it's a great game and I'm enjoying it a lot, but I still haven't been able to justify buying it at full price [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline]
Just had a guy come into the shop with cryptolocker. Got EVERYTHING but his wedding photos and a few temp files. Guy's lucky as fuck.
how were you able to retrieve the files without a key? wasn't it done encrypting everything? [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline] I lied about FPS in titanfall, apparently it's a constant 60 fps with the occasional dips down to 30-40 whenever too much happens at once.
how were you able to retrieve the files without a key? wasn't it done encrypting everything?
He unplugged it before it finished encrypting. It encrypted every file but those photos and temp files.
Don't you have a titan and dual xeons? :v:
Yeah, but they're only mid range Xeons. :tinfoil: But seriously, that computer is the most expensive thing I own.
Yeah, but they're only mid range Xeons. :tinfoil: But seriously, that computer is the most expensive thing I own.
>Mid range >Dual Xeons IMO mid range xeons are the E3 1230's, anything capable of running dual socket is high end.
Yeah, but they're only mid range Xeons. :tinfoil: But seriously, that computer is the most expensive thing I own.
iirc it's 2xE5-2620. About $800 for both. That's still 3x as much as what most people pay. Plus Titan. That's another grand. Plus 2s Mobo. That's another $300-400 MINIMUM. Plus COSMOS 2. That's another $350. Could probably go on further. [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline]
>Mid range >Dual Xeons IMO mid range xeons are the E3 1230's, anything capable of running dual socket is high end.
There's no opinions about it. E5s ARE mid-range. E7's are high end.
>Mid range >Dual Xeons IMO mid range xeons are the E3 1230's, anything capable of running dual socket is high end.
That's low end, my E5 2650s are mids range and have been overtaken by the Xeon v2 line, the 12-core 2697 v2 is high end, well what I mean by high end.
That's low end, my E5 2650s are mids range and have been overtaken by the Xeon v2 line, the 12-core 2697 v2 is high end, well what I mean by high end.
Oh Christ... I revise my previous post. That's $2000-2200 for them. That's 9-10X what most people pay for a processor in their PC. Keep trying.
holyshit, the E5 2650 costs $1650 around here. why would anyone buy a CPU at that price for a desktop computer? my desktop in its entirety is around that price. what would a desktop computer benefit from a xeon CPU anyway?

And it's for 3D rendering. Also Hexxeh's HP Z620 beast is much more powerful than mine.

I swear I'm going to find a useful application for that socket 771 -> 775 conversion mod [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline]
That's low end, my E5 2650s are mids range and have been overtaken by the Xeon v2 line, the 12-core 2697 v2 is high end, well what I mean by high end.
something something crysis

Ivy-EX is the first competent E7, and it's a winner only problem is they're charging ludicrous prices for it when you can get slightly worse for significantly less from elsewhere, and Ivy-EX's win wont last for long anyway when P8 drops, which is going to hold up as the fastest in the world for about 2/4-5/6ths of it's lifespan (Which is too long, anyway.)

maybe I should start saving up money so I can play games on a super computer in 10-20 years [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline] merge
I've seen a korean player stream Titanfall with a E5 Xeon. He was also packing sli 780 Tis. He was getting 120FPS consistently. I would love the 32 threads. Maybe my minecraft server might actually stop being a pain in the ass to run.
isn't titanfall locked to 60FPS?

But saying you've "only" got midrange Xeons is kind of like saying I've "only" got a midrange Ferarri. Certainly not going to win you any favors amongst the people with Fords and Hondas when you try to say you're just one of the guys. I'm not saying you don't deserve or utilize the Xeons, I'm just saying that calling anything a "rich kid's toy" when you own a dual-processor machine rings hollow.

I was doing some work on my laptop and thought I'd continue it on my desktop PC, but because transferring all the data to another PC is pain in the ass I thought I'd use Chrome Remote Desktop to access my laptop and do the work remotely. I forgot I was using the mobile internet on my laptop:
Actually CF's eletrical interface is IDE, and it's electrically compatible with the standard IDE that your desktop computer uses, except the physical connectors are mechanically different in terms of size and whatnot.
thought so, that's what made me think they were the same. neat, though. i've seen a few NAS and router setups that use CF cards to save space
Just out of interest, have any of you worked with one of these old data tape reels? ; Also how do they work, do they have directories/folders ?
I thought I'd have a tight squeeze with the SSD on my laptop, when it comes in. Turns out that whilst Linux takes about ~30MB, compiling the fucking thing takes 15-20GB, which is interesting when you've compiled two different kernels, and still have the files kicking around.
Looks like im in full paranoid mode again. Because I was an idiot and opened an attachment from an obvious Spam/Malware email. Been running Mbam and Avast trough my HDD's for bout an hour now. Found a "trojan" in the Syswow64 folder, but which aparently is part of a legit software used to hook onto key pressed. Since I'm not sure if the virus got installed (opened RTF file with malicious objects inside), I am thinking of flattening the installation, and begin with a clean slate. Also have changed the most important password from a different machine. Jesus this is the worst time this could happen.

If I have time, would anyone appreciate me creating a thread for rtl-sdr?
