Looks like im in full paranoid mode again.
Because I was an idiot and opened an attachment from an obvious Spam/Malware email.
Been running Mbam and Avast trough my HDD's for bout an hour now.
Found a "trojan" in the Syswow64 folder, but which aparently is part of a legit software used to hook onto key pressed.
Since I'm not sure if the virus got installed (opened RTF file with malicious objects inside), I am thinking of flattening the installation, and begin with a clean slate.
Also have changed the most important password from a different machine.
Jesus this is the worst time this could happen.
if a sexy single nigerian prince in your area offers you a freemoney.exe, you shouldn't run it
jeez this is basic common sense

it was an .rtf file.
An Actual RTF File. I checked in a Linux VM. It had a Malicious .cpl payload attached to it.
After opening, it tells you to double click on the object in order to open up your "bill".
The object looks like some script or whatever. Opening the thing in libreoffice reveals the path C:/quittung.cpl which looks like the path it wants to extract and execute the shit to.
Edit:
I didn't click on the object, so I probably didn't execute the script.

Format everything. I refuse to trust an installation after a virus or other malware.
DBAN the hard drive before install if you have psychiatric problems like paranoia.
Here's the virustotal for the object:

Here's the malware in question if anyones curious:

DBAN an SSD would be silly.

I'm backing my shit up right now. Will format and reinstall Windows aswell.
Malware detection is more of an art than science.
The only real method to figure out if a program is malicious, is to run it and observe it, which is what companies do, but it's not always enough, there's no guarantee the virus won't change behavior and signature 8 hours after the signature update gets releases to people.
Mandatory Access Control is nice, and helps a lot, but good fucking luck trying to get people to do that on a desktop system - I don't, yet I keep yelling at people about it.
Just out of interest, have any of you worked with one of these old data tape reels? ;

Also how do they work, do they have directories/folders ?
My father actually has one of the second tape drives. Its so fucking cool to watch. We can't figure out how to interface with it though.
Finished reinstalling my PC.
Now I just need to reinstall everything :v:

Fuck me that was quick.
Fuck me that was quick.
I always finish fast. Huehue
backing up is as easy as copying everything from drive a and pasting it to drive b, and then just insert install medium.
SNIP wrong thread.
Anyway, you guys were lying if you meant that Vimeo did anything above 30fps.... :(
[editline]23rd March 2014[/editline]
hmm. Since you can't host high-quality high framerate videos anywhere, do you guys think i could theoretically self host them? Like, just make one page with a video and a player...
Fuck me,
so for like the first time in a couple months I'm all like 'Hell yeah gurl I wanna play some Guitar mofuckin' HERO! So I ended up installing it on my PC, I plug in my guitar which I knew worked back the last time I played it.
And lo and behold, it appears Windows can't find the drivers for 'Guitar Hero Xplorer controller', the fuck mang?
Youtube can do 60 fps unofficially, maybe even 120 fps.

Got a free Dell Vostro 410.
Dunno what the GPUs are but it's got a Q6600 and a 410watt psu. What's the best GPU I can toss into this thing? I'm thinking maybe a 5670/6670?
Aparently tomorrow morning we are gonna get switched over to the new ISP.
10 times faster internet. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Heating element broke on my oven. Now i'm gonna have to get a replacement part and somehow install it myself.

whoops. it's got a 350watt psu and apprently two ATI 2400 Pro cards in it
so yeah, would something around the 5670/6670 cards be ok in there? gonna use this thing as a secondary pc but I want to at least be able to play a few games
I also got a vostros 400 but I'm gonna fix that up and hopefully send it off to a friend
Didn't need to wait for buffering here.

It seems to buffer in "chunks" - it buffers a few seconds really fast, then takes some time to get the next few seconds.
I'm blaming that more on "you're on the opposite fucking hemisphere" though.
Made a thread, I'll make it prettier later since I'm working on a case studies today: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1378853

750Ti
psu is 350 watt
dell's spec sheet was wrong
My friend had a 8800GT run on a 350W psu for a year now. Before it was used on a HD3850.
It was a Delta PSU too, so you can guess the quality.
and won't there be a bottleneck due to the Q6600?
So i was wondering why my desktop was being so flipping slow the last month or so thinking my HDD may be starting to fail.
