Samsung Kies is a BITCH, it seems I need it in order to update the Android OS, but the damn installer crashes the whole fucking time. Does anyone have alternatives to update Android?
What phone do you have. I got the S3 and i never needed to use Kies
Just put a rom on it with kit kat and be done with it.

Does anyone have alternatives to update Android?
On most Android devices I've had, you can put an update.zip (or whatever its called for your device) in the root folder of the SD card and then boot into the bootloader to flash it. You just need to find the update zip.
Honestly, it's such an uproar over the whole thing i'd just wait and see what happens
I'm gonna wait until it's released, and look at the final product. If it has any thing like "facebook integration" or any FB branding on it, it would be a no-go for me.
What phone do you have. I got the S3 and i never needed to use Kies
It's a Samsung Galaxy S Plus GT-19001 running Gingerbread 2.3.5 (according to the firmware version) I'll look around for a ROM I guess. Would KitKat be able to run on this device?

This is something very interesting I'm gonna look into as soon as the new battery arrived. Right now I taped a 1020 mAh Nokia battery to the back to make sure it can at least run. [editline]26th March 2014[/editline] Nah fuck this going to try this now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587302 How exactly am I going to flash this KitKat build to it? I'm not very familiar with smartphones, but flashing a OS to it seems easy as far as you follow instructions properly.
I wonder how the guys at Valve are doing right now, they've been sinking in resources into VR development, and then handing it over to Oculus, and they've also used up time doing Oculus integration, and now Facebook will either ruin the project, or hopefully forget that they own the company. I haven't seen them do anything with WhatsApp so far, but I don't use WhatsApp, so. I don't have any data to start making assumptions from. I guess I could join the bandwagon and assume Facebook will force everyone to login to Facebook in order to use the Rift, in which case I'll never buy one.
I think it's way too early to insert my thoughts into Facebook partnering with Oculus. what has Facebook bought in the past which it screwed over anyway? afaik, Instagram nor WhatsApp (which can be understandable so far since that's p recent) has changed all that much since Facebook bought them. had a questionable change to the ToS regarding Instagram in the beginning, but I'm sure they shifted away from that?
Can someone remind me what the point of Dual GPU cards is, apart from getting swefox's money? I mean it's all the issues of SLI with no way to remove the other GPU. [t]http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-Titan-Z-Official.jpg[/t]
I've never had any SLI issues with my dual gpu card. It's just a very thirsty card.
Looking for a name for a project me and a friend are working on - it's a video sharing platform specifically tailored to gaming content. If anybody can think of a good name, feel free to PM me and we'll pay you to use it if we like it.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/3/26/5549186/facebook-rebrand-oculus-rift-headset So wtf is this about. Haven't heard of a rebranding yet.
update: http://www.theverge.com/2014/3/26/5549186/facebook-rebrand-oculus-rift-headset
Facebook won't rebrand the Oculus Rift headset and interface (update)

If it has any thing like "facebook integration" or any FB branding on it, it would be a no-go for me.
I was looking forward to the rift and have even set aside the funds to purchase one, but this whole Facebook thing is slightly disconcerting. I don't like Facebook as a company or as a service. I don't have or want a Facebook account and I don't think any company should be in control of that much data. It's all well and good Facebook buying other web orientated services like Whatsapp, but what can Facebook possibly do that is beneficial to Oculus and the rift beyond temporary financial injection?
Ah oh well. In case you're wondering its a HD 7790 Sapphire vapor x 1Gb that's mine
Ah, that's the same model as the one I was gonna buy. New it would have been $110 but the open box was $90. And then I found a mislabeled new GTX 650 for way less so I got that card instead. I just needed a card that play Skyrim, Titanfall, and TF2 at decent settings. [editline]26th March 2014[/editline] and of course the hard drive tells me this AFTER windows 8 is installed [t]http://puu.sh/7Ktfi.JPG[/t]

Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 still the best bang for the buck cpu cooler? The stock one in this Dell is too loud.
So aparently my Uni is upgrading the computers we use in the lab to have i7's, 16gb ram, ssd, "high end nvidia card" all with a ~250W power supply, I don't even.
It's all well and good Facebook buying other web orientated services like Whatsapp, but what can Facebook possibly do that is beneficial to Oculus and the rift beyond temporary financial injection?
Facebook is a company that relies on gathering and selling Informations about it's userbase. Basically, they want to know all about you, thats the main intention. What did they gain with whatsapp and instagram? a huge userbase, and along with it a fuckload of informations about it's users. I can imagine they have plans to implement analytical stuff in relation with the Oculus rift in the future. Maybe not at release, but maybe some time after. Personally, I could imagine the rift on it's release would be 100% disconected from Facebook stuff, but Facebook would create some kind of optional "Social integration Software" for the rift, in order to get to their main goal, the gathering of user informations.
